I can't say, i think you could use others - as long as you could find hadith of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (sal Allaahu alayhi waSalam) to support that the ayaah you are using should be used for that situation.


I really don't know if you can use any picked ayaah, but from what i've heard in a lecture by yasir qadhi - you can only use the ayaah which have been used by Rasool Allaah sal Allaahu alayhi waSalam for them situations, and the example of surah fatiha, surah nas, surah falaq etc. have been used for situations such as magic, the evil eye, poisonings etc.

There have even been dua's which Rasool Allaah sal Allaahu alayhi waSalam recited in different situations, for example if someone was in severe pain etc.
