Abu Dawud al-Sijistani (d.275) said:
"May Allah have mercy upon Malik, for he was an Imam. May Allah have mercy upon al-Shafi'i, for he was an Imam. May Allah have mercy upon Abu Hanifah, for he was an Imam."
