Hadith - Sahih Bukhari (#70) and Muslim

Hakim ibn Hizam said to the Prophet

, "You know that in the days before Islam I used to maintain family ties, free slaves, and give charity. Will I be rewarded for any of those deeds?" The Prophet

replied, "You accepted Islam with all the good you did in the past."
The Noble Qur'an - Al-Anfal 8:38

Say to those who have disbelieved, if they cease (from disbelief) their past will be forgiven. But if they return (thereto), then the examples of those (punished) before them have already preceded (as a warning).
