Question
My question is not regarding `Eid really. My husband wants me to dye my hair for `Eid (I wear Hijab). I know you can do this but I wanted to know whether you should use permanent dye or other, there are so many different types on the market, also whether women can use black dye. I have tried Henna knowing that this is better, but it does not work on my hair
Answer
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
A woman asked `Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) about beautifying herself for her husband. `Aishah replied by saying: "If you were to take out your eyes just to please your husband, do it!" This is a figure of speech and an exaggeration that a woman should try her best to please her husband as long as she is not doing something which Allah has forbidden.
You are allowed to dye your hair, whether permanent or short.
As for black colour, it is controversial but it is allowed according to some scholars provided that it is not done to trick or deceive others. Other scholars forbid using the black colour based on the hadith where the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said about Quhafa when he came to him with white hair, "Dye his hair and avoid the black." But the scholars of the first opinion interpreted the hadith to refer to those who try to deceive people about his age.
Therefore, I tend to hold it permissible that you are allowed to dye your hair black to please your husband.
Allah Almighty knows best
