I’m confused. Can an educated scholar explain to me how the following statements can be reconciled?

1. The Quran (2:154): And do not say of those who are killed in the way of Allah, They are dead. They are alive with their Lord, but you do not perceive.

2. Citation from a Sahabi of the Prophet (saws), Abu Bakr As-Sidiq (RAA): Oh Believers, if you were worshiping Muhammad, he is dead, but if you are worshiping Allah, he is The Living and will never die.

3. Dr. Ayman Zawahiri: If you were fighting for Zarqawi… Zarqawi is DEAD!

Many thanks in advance to anyone who is able to explain them.
