Dear Brother/sister I do not know arabic and would be grateful if you can explain this hadith to me

Prophet Muhammad SAW said that Allah does not have mercy on those who do not have mercy on others.

What does mercy mean in this hadith? Does it mean kindness (eg: help the blind man cross the road, give cold person blanket on cold day etc)? or does it mean forgiveness?
