Asalaamu Alaikum Wr Wb, I have included Dua For Studying and Exam Time and also tips for exam success below. May Allah give you every success in this world and the next. Ameen

Dua's For Studying and Exam Time

    Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahmeem

    Dua Before Studying

Allahumma infa’nii bimaa ‘allamtanii wa’allimnii maa yanfa’ unii.

O Allah! Make useful for me what You taught me and teach me knowledge that will be useful to me.

Allahumma inii as’aluka fahmal-nabiyyen wa hifthal mursaleen al-muqarrabeen.

O Allah! I ask You for the understanding of the prophets and the memory of the messengers, and those nearest to You.

Allahumma ijal leesanee ‘amiran bi thikrika wa qalbi bi khashyatika.

O Allah! Make my tongue full of Your remembrance, and my heart with consciousness of You.

Innaka ‘ala ma-tasha’-u qadeer wa anta hasbun-allahu wa na’mal wakeel.

(Oh Allah!) You do whatever You wish, and You are my Availer and best if aid. Protector and the best of aid.

    Dua After Studying

Allahhumma inni astaodeeuka ma qara’tu wama hafaz-tu. Faradduhu ‘allaya inda hagati elayhi. Innaka ‘ala ma-tasha’-u qadeer wa anta hasbeeya wa na’mal wakeel.

Oh Allah! I entrust You with what I have read and I have studied. (Oh Allah!) Bring it back to me when I am in need of it. (Oh Allah!) You do whatever You wish, and You are my Availer and Protector and the best of aid.

    Dua While Studying Something Difficult

Allahumma la sahla illama ja-’altahu sahla wa anta taj ‘alu al hazana etha shi’ta sahla.

O Allah! Nothing is easy except what You have made easy. If You wish, You can make the difficult easy.

    Dua For Anxiety

Allahumma inni a’oodhoo bika minal-hammi-walhazan. Wa’a oodhoo bika minal-ghammi-wal-kasal. Wa’a oodhoo bika minal jubni wal bukhl. Wa’a oodhoo bikal min ghalabatid-dayni-waqarir rijal.

Oh Allah, I seek refuge in You from worry and grief, from helplessness and laziness, from cowardice and stinginess, and from overpowering of debt and from oppression of men.

    Dua For Distress

Allahumma rahmataka arjoo falaa takilnee ilaa nafsee tarfata ‘aynin wa aslih-lee sha’nee kullahu, laa ilaha illa anta.

O Allah! It is Your mercy that I hope for so do not leave me in charge of my affairs even for a blink of an eye and rectify for me all of my affairs. None has the right to be worshipped except You.

    Dua For Distress and Grief

This is based on the following saheeh hadeeth reported by Imaam Ahmad (translation adapted from www.islam-qa.com; see question 1392):

The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: ‘There is nobody who is afflicted with distress or grief and who says: “Allaahumma inni ‘abduka wa ibn ‘abdika wa ibn amatika, naasiyati bi yadika maadin fiyya hukmuka ‘adlun fiyya qadaa’uka, as’aluka bi kulli ismin huwa laka sammayta bihi nafsaka aw ‘allamtahu ahadan min khalqika aw anzaltahu fi kitaabika aw asta’tharta bihi fi ‘ilmi al-ghaybi ‘indaka an taj’al al-Qur’aana rabee’a qalbi wa noor sadri wa jilaa’a huzni wa dhihaaba hammi.’

‘O Allaah, I am Your slave, son of Your slave, son of Your maidservant, my forelock is in Your hand, Your command over me is ever executed and Your decree over me is just. I ask You by every name belonging to You which You have named Yourself with, or which you revealed in Your Book, or which You taught to any of Your creation, or which You have preserved in the knowledge of the Unseen with You, that You make the Qur’aan the life of my heart and the light of my breast, and a departure for my sorrow and a release for my anxiety,” – but Allaah will take away his distress and grief, and replace it with ease.’ He was asked, ‘O Messenger of Allaah, should we not learn it?’ He said, ‘Of course, whoever hears it should learn it.’

    Tips for Exam Success

If you have worked hard for two years and put in a lot of effort, there are some steps you can take to ensure that your examination results reflect this.

    Success in Examinations

    Be prepared

If the thought of an examination fills you with dread, then you are probably not fully prepared. Of course everybody will be a bit nervous about an important examination, but there is no reason why you should fall apart and fail to do yourself justice if you know what to expect before you go in. The best preparation is working through past papers and looking at your syllabus to avoid any nasty surprises. A positive attitude will help you - try to look on the exam as an opportunity to show the examiner all the things you have learnt in the past two years.

Make sure you have everything you need ready the night before, including pens, pencils, ruler, and calculator. Your teacher can tell you what mathematical skills you are expected to have, or they are listed in your syllabus. Make sure you are familiar with these well in advance.

    Read carefully

Before you start, read the paper all the way through and make sure you know exactly what you have to do. Turn over all the pages. Then, when you are ready to start, read each question more than once to make sure it really does say what you think it says. Follow the instructions to the letter, as marks can only be awarded for precise answers to the question asked, not for any other information about the subject.

    Plan your time

Work out how much time you should spend on each question, based on how many marks it has. Don't spend ages racking your brains to think of the answer to the last part of a question - go on and start the next question instead. You will probably get more marks for answering the beginning of all the questions than for finishing one or two questions completely, but not attempting later questions. If you have time left at the end, you can go back and think about the more difficult parts when you will be feeling more relaxed.

    Present your work carefully

Remember that the examiner will have a large pile of papers to mark in a short space of time. Struggling to read your writing or to follow an illogical argument will not help, so write as clearly as you possibly can in the time available and think through what you are going to write before you start. The examiner is trying to award you marks - make it easy to find them.

If you are drawing diagrams, draw them clearly and simply, using single lines where appropriate. Label the diagrams and make sure the label lines point exactly to the relevant structures.

    Stay calm

If you find a question you have no idea about, do not panic! Breathe slowly and deeply and have another look. It's likely that if you stay calm and think clearly, it will start to make more sense, or at least you may be able to answer part of it. It not, then don't agonise about it but concentrate first on the questions you can answer.

    How to revise

You will probably have found by talking to your friends that everybody has a different way of revising. It's important to make sure that your method is an effective one.

    Make a revision timetable

First plan your revision. You can cover all your subjects, and keep up with your hobbies too, if you plan your time carefully. Make a timetable that includes allyour subjects, and think about combining the subjects you find difficult with those that come more naturally to you, so you have something to look forward to and don't get disheartened. Use your syllabus to make sure you have covered everything. Once you've made the timetable, though, make sure you really do start revising - don't kid yourself that planning your revision is all you need to do!

Find a suitable place to revise. You need somewhere quiet where you will not be interrupted. Some people can concentrate with music playing, but if you can't, then turn it off. If you find it difficult to work at home, then try going to a library or some other quiet place.

    Work with the material

Don't just sit there reading. You need to interact or work with the main ideas to get them fixed in your mind, rather than just trying to learn reams of words on a page. Different people do this in various ways, but you could try the following:

If the book is your own, using a highlighter pen to show key words
Making brief notes from a textbook, or reorganising your own notes
Organising the information in different ways, such as making lists or flow diagrams, or using coloured highlighters to code related information
Drawing pictures or making up mnemonics or rhymes to help you remember key facts or important ideas

Reading a section and then testing yourself.

Try working with a friend, and don't forget to ask your teacher for advice if you get stuck.

    Take regular breaks

Your concentration will start to wonder and you will be less effective if you work solidly for hours without a break. Divide your study periods into chunks of about 40 minutes, and then go and make a drink, or have a brief walk, or do something completely different for about 10 minutes. Then you can go back for the next session feeling refreshed, and sometimes you will find that you understand things more clearly after a break.

    Go over topics repeatedly

You can fix things in your memory most effectively if you go back over them regularly. Each time you start a revision session, briefly go over or test yourself on some of the things you have learnt earlier. The more times you think about a topic, the more likely you are to remember, even when under pressure in an examination.

Work through past examination papers It's important not only to learn the information, but also to be able to answer the sorts of questions that are likely to come up.

Don't panic at the last minute!

If you have stuck to your revision timetable, you should feel as relaxed and confident as you can about the examination. There is then no point in panicking and trying to learn it all again the night before. Just have a quick look through your brief notes, diagrams or lists, test yourself on a couple of topics, then relax. If you are nervous and feel convinced you have forgotten everything, then take some exercise or do something else to clear your thoughts and stop worrying. You will probably find that when you come back and have another look, you have remembered far more than you thought.
