Default Questions about Christians. Requesting answers from Christians. - 06-06-2006

This thread is to be strictly Q&A no validation is being asked why something is believed. It is simply an oppotunity for members of The Christian faith to state what they believe, with no need to explain why. Anyone with questions about Christianity please ask them here. Christians if you feel capable please answer such questions here.

If anyone feels that any question or answer needs to be debated, please start a new thread regarding that. Let us try to keep this thread open for honest Questions and honest answers, with no need to explain.

My question:

How many Christian denominations are there and does each have different beliefs?

We are getting off track. Let us try to leave debates out of this thread and carry them over to seperate threads. I think it would be nice if this could be kept as an open thread just for the expressing of ones beliefs without fear of rebuttal.

Debating and stating opinions are 2 seperate topics.

How did we get side tracked into this non-debate thread being turned into a debate about Gays?

I was once a Christian, as a Christian. I remember thinking of God being the all mighty and Jesus as a different entity but sitting next to God on the thrown. It has, however, been a long time.

Lately I have been hearing claims that Jesus is God himself. Is that true?
If not, why do people pray to Jesus, not his father?

Is that breaking the first commandment?
“You shall have no other gods before me.”

Why do Christians worship on Sunday, the first say of the week?

The ordinal Sabbath was on Saturday. Even Jesus worshiped on Saturday (or Friday sunset to Saturday sunset) And is that braking the third commandment?
“Observe the sabbath day, to keep it holy, as the LORD your God commanded you. Six days you shall labor, and do all your work; but the seventh day is a sabbath to the LORD your God."

Woodrow, that's not so much a question, but an underlying criticism of the translations of the Bible - or am I wrong?

I must say I didn't know there were so many versions!
Can you verify hat none of these are 'made up'?

I clearly cannot answer your question.
How many of these versions have you come across, or read in your time?
I know the King James Version and the New International Version.

Peace.

Here's a question.

During easter what goes on in the church?

(I really have not seen the ritual I will like to know)

I was going to phrase the question as to how come there are so many version. But, this is more visual as to what I mean. Not so much being criticalc as trying to show what many of us see, when we try to find out what is a Bible. When I was Christian, I used 3 versions, The latin Vulgate, The KJV and a Greek Version. I still have them.

I must say I didn't know there were so many versions!

Those are just the English ones currently available through Barnes & Noble. Actually, only used by the Western Christians. There are many more English Versions. I am aware of over a thousand versions, but these are the only ones that I can show are currently available through book stores. The differnces are not just translation differnces. Big variations as to what books are included as the Bible.

If you go into the Versions used in the Eastern Christian Churches, there are Many more, as they began strictly with the Greek and did not go through the Latin, or English phases or the KJV reformation stages. I suspect that the Early Greek versions are most closely similar to the Original Aramaic. But even so through out the different denominations there are many versions varying by what books are included and how different translators had different interpretations.

This is not a back lashing, insulting contest, if you think otherwise; I suggest you re-read the purpose of this board. I’m giving every precipitant of this thread the benefit of the doubt and thus will not close the thread as it can be beneficial with the right attitude.

I suggest you all grow up and discuss in a good manner, if you can’t do that then perhaps you should not join in the discussion.

Look at the point of the thread, don’t go off-topic!

regards
