Assalamu Alaykum Wa Rakhmatullah,
Before a person can pray s/he needs to fulfill six conditions;
1: Purity The person praying should be clean from impurity and in a state of wudu, the place the person is praying upon should also be pure/clean.
2: Covering The Private Area The person praying should be covered, for a man it is compulsory to be covered from the navel till the knees and for a woman all her body should be covered except from her hands, face and the feet.
3: Time For Salah It is essential for the person to be sure that the time for salah has started, his salah will be invalid if the time is not correct. Thus he will have to repeat it.
4: Facing The Qibla The one praying needs to face the qibla at all times during salah.
5: Intention Correct intention should be made before starting the salah, if a person feels his intention will be stronger if he utters it with his tongue, this is permissible.
6: Takbeer Tahreema Before starting the actual Salah a person needs to say "Allahu Akbar," this is obligatory, this takbeer makes actions that are originally halal haram during salah. E.g: Talking, eating ect..
