Unhappy To do or not to do? - 12-29-2008

To do or not to do?

28 12 2008 That is the question. Many a time we are faced with a tough decision such as: “should we eat the main iftar after or before the maghrib salah?” or “should I buy this black hijab or this rainbow coloured hijab?” Alhamdulilah for us as Muslims, we have a method which decides for us. And not just any old decision but a decision from the lord of the worlds.

Jabir ibn ‘Abd- Allah al-Salami (may Allah be pleased with him) said:“The Messenger of Allah used to teach his companions to make istikharah in all things, just as he used to teach them surahs from the Qur’an.

Istikharah is for everyone, old or new, practicing or not. And its something we should all use more often. Its like our own personal assistant, its free of charge too. Allah [subhanahu wa ta3la] has blessed us with such a tool that we should use it as often as possible. People tend to have this notion that we only use it once in our life when we want to get married, usually the night before and when they’ve already made their mind up or when its too late anyway.

But as highlighted in the hadeeth it was the practice of rasululah [salAllahu alayhi wa salam] and his companions to make istikharah in all things and yes, this can include whether to buy that nicer but expensive or the cheaper but will do abayah. What should be on a Muslim’s mind when he is faced with a decision should be, “lemme go do istikharah and ask Allah” and not “to do or not to do?” *smiles*

Offcourse we must drink a little or eat a little before Shalah Maghrib because Rasulullah way was to delay the Sahur and to make early the Ifthar. So after ifthar, we do Shalat Maghrib and we eat a lot after Shalat Maghrib.

Rasulullah even said 'This religion will always prevail, when my ummah does not delay Ifthar." In Jilbab Mar'at Al Muslimah by syaikh Nashir Al Albaani.

Assalamu'alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuh.
