Default I feel like I'm 90 years old!

    Assalamu Alaikum

For the past couple of weeks, I've been having excruciating pain and inflammation in my knees and ankles. It happened suddenly and it's not injure related..
I'll be going to the ER soon inshallah, but after doing some research and asking a doctor, I think I have rheumatoid arthritis alhemdulilah 'ala kulli haal.

I feel so sad because I cannot pray properly anymore and I really wanted to do hajj this year and I'm afraid I won't be well enough to do it. It hurts so much to do simple things such as walking or picking something up, alhemdulilah.

I feel like i haven't taken advantage of my health when I had it, and if I do have arthritis, it will get worse and will probably start affecting other joints in my body which scares me.

please keep me in your sincere du'as. All I can hope for is that allah will remove my sins due to this and perfect my imaan. If anyone knows any prophetic medicine that will help with the inflammation, please let me know.
    jazakum allahu khair.

    Walaykum salam ,

This is sad to hear sister, I'll definitely keep you in my dua's. May Allah strengthen your iman and expiate your sins through this illness. Ameen.

You may not be able to do hajj this year but be positive. There's also Ramadan habibty, umrah during Ramadan is equivalent to Hajj and since Ramadan is closer, I'd suggest you to plan Umrah this year for Ramadan.

As for any prophetic medicine, there's black seeds/nigella seeds (habasouda in arabic),

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said on the authority of Abu Huraira to: "Use this black seed regularly, because it has a cure for every disease except death.” (Reported by Bukhari.)

Do you have any herbal stores near you? Here's an online store [link], although sometimes going to the shops and checking it out is better. There's also certain ways in taking the medicine that could help you more effectively. I've searched around and I found this:

Backache & other kinds of rheumatism
Mildly heat a small amount of Black Seed Oil and then stroke the rheumatic area intensely. A teaspoon of the oil should also be drunk three times daily.

    Some more information,
What is more effective to use, the Black Seed herb or the Black Seed Oil?

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) stated, "Use this black seed regularly, because it has a cure for every disease except death.” (Reported by Bukhari.) He did not state to use the oil regularly so this can be used as evidence that the whole herb is what he was stating when he proclaimed this. Both are effective in their own standards. However, Black Seed oil is more concentrated than the herb itself. Many people prefer using the herb to the oil. Caution should be taken when using black seed oil due to the fact that many oil products are imported and may be adulterated or mixed with other oils. Some oils coming from the Middle East are extracted with heat and hexane, a petroleum by-product. Always use a product that is labeled as 100%, cold-pressed, solvent free, and packed and sealed by machine.

Be strong, Allah ma'aki. Despite the difficulty, don't leave your salah no matter what. We all have tests. Insha'Allah it will work out for you. May Allah, the Most Merciful, ease your illness. Ameen.

How old are you? (You don't need to answer that.)
I recommend that you go and see your doctor. It may be that a combination of anti-inflammatory medication and painkillers can make you more comfortable.

There may also be certain activities you may need to be cautious about and try to avoid and/or reduce.

Seek medical advice. All the best.

Ameen, jazak allahu khair. I'm not upset at having it alhemdulilah, I'm just hoping for the best, it's just really painful. This life is temporary anyway!

As for how it happened, allahu a'lem. It's an auto-immune disorder..so basically my body is attacking itself..there's no known cause, cure, or prevention for it. It can only be treated with pain meds, which I'm not keen on taking for the rest of my life :/ alhemdulilah

I'm 23..I went to the ER but it would take me forever to get treated because it was packed, so I might go back in a few more hours inshallah.

I'm really hoping that it's something that can be cured, but I will have to wait until I get some blood tests taken to prove if arthritis is what I really have, but the signs are all there.

Inshallah khair, I live in saudi arabia now, and it would be such a huge disappointment if I could not complete hajj this year. I will keep praying that I will be able to go, even if I had to live with this for the rest of my life, I just hope I could walk around the kabaa and I will be so happy! inshallah

And luckily habasouda is readily available here. My husband just ran out to get me some alhemdulilah. I will try keep taking it inshallah. I know honey is good for inflammation as well, but I'm not sure if it will help inflammation in the joints. Barak allahu feeki for your reply habibti.

    Assalamu-alaikum dear sister,

Allah (subhanawataála) knows best, but at the moment your symptoms do not sound typical of rheuamtoid arthritis.

Briefly, rheumatoid arthritis is usually diagnosed by the following:
    1. Morning stiffness lasting > 1 hour
    2. Arthritis of 3 more joint areas
    3. Involvement of the hand joints, esp. wrists and fingers
    4. Symmetrical involvement - i.e. the arthritis involves the same joint on both sides of the body
    5. Presence of 'nodules' over bony and other areas (not common)
    6. Blood tests
    7. Xray changes.

4 of these 7 criteria are usually needed to make the diagnosis, and symptoms are present for > 6 weeks.

There are newer criteria available, but the above are the most useful clinically.

Your on-line research may not have emphasised the following important point:
Hand and wrist involvement occurs in almost all patients - and the absence of this makes the diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis less likely.

What Im trying to convey is: Be positive ukthi : )

Insha Allah, it may not be as serious as you think.

Perhaps this is just a fleeting infective/ viral-related arthritis or a 'reactive' arthritis related to a recent illness that you may have suffered.

Make duaa to Allah Taa'la that He relieves your pain and grants you complete shifaa'.
Pain-tablets, e.g paracetamol and anti-inflammatory meds taken with meals may insha Allah, also help for now.

If your symptoms do not improve/ worsen or if you develop any other symptoms, then seek further medical aid - preferably from a physician (if possible).

Trust in Allah - He only wishes to test His servants, and chose from amongst them, the most patient and steadfast.
    SubhanAllah.

I thought the same thing too, the other possible conditions is that I sprained my ankles in my sleep (I'm double jointed and I move my feet a lot during sleep) or it's gout, which is another form of arthritis which actually sounds more like my condition. The problem is that I'm having pain in my knees too so that's why I assumed it'd be the rheumatoid. I also have this pain all day long, even during sleep. In fact, this issue happened while I was asleep. When I woke up I thought I might have stretched and moved my feet too much while I was sleeping, and thus, they became sore, but it's become much worse now and they are much more inflamed and reddish. On the backside of my legs and feet, it looks like my ankle bone has been dislocated and my legs aren't completely straight anymore...I dont know, it's just so weird.

Both of my feet look like this

Jazaki allahu khair for your help. I'm just waiting to go to the doc's and inshallah they will find out the problem. Everything is for the best and alhemdulilah 3ala kulli haal. Like you said, allah tests his servants and He knows what is best for me, same hands that gave this to me can take it away or turn it in a better situation, alhemdulilah.

    Assalamus-alaikum,

    Shukran for posting a pic.

From what you have revealed, I would still consider rheumatoid arthritis to be less likely, and gout to be even less likely than this. Allah (subhanawataála) knows best.

    The reason being:
    - The pain of rheumatoid arthritis is maximal in the mornings (always associated with stiffness) - and it gets better as the day progresses (vs. your pain that is constant throughout the day and night).
    - Your symptoms sound to be very acute/ of recent onset.
    - Your hands are not involved.

    - Gout is extremely rare in your age group, esp. being female (unless there is a family history of young onset of gout).
When gout does occur in females - its generally post-menopausal women who are affected, or those with other serious illnesses (e.g. patients on chemotherapy, etc).

From the above pic, I would strongly advise you to consult a doctor soon insha Allah.

This could possibly be due to a 'reactive arthritis'/ septic arthritis involving multiple joints - in which case you would need antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medication. Insha Allah, these are just the means. All cure is from Allah Taa'la alone.

Have you been experiencing any other symptoms: e.g. fever, sore throat, burning urine, diarrhea or a skin rash?

May Allah make this difficulty easy for you and make it a means of drawing ever closer to Him.
    Ameen

Please let us know how you are doing insha Allah.

Jazaki allahu khair for all your help and kind words ukhti <3 I really appreciate it.

Today I woke up and it was even more painful to walk, to get up, and to sit back down, I needed assistance to help take the pressure of my legs and ankles as I moved around. It was even much more painful than the days before. My knee pain increased during sleep I couldn't even move my legs while laying down, and the inflammation in my ankles increased to the rest of my foot, including my toes.

I went to the ER and the doctor called it polyarthritis because they have to do more specific tests to rule out exactly what kind of arthritis it is, since there are so many. I had a few blood tests done and they took an x-ray of my chest and feet. Alhemdulilah I didn't have any uric acid in my blood which I guess rules out the gout, and I had a few high results from the blood tests but the doctor said those are reactions due to the extreme pain in my body, and I think my x-ray results looked normal alhemdulilah. They gave me a cortisone injection and a pain killer to help with the pain, and alhemdulilah they've helped a lot and I can walk normally for the time being, but my feet are still inflamed a bit. They sent me home with some pain killers. I'm getting referred to a rheumatologist inshallah, so for now I still dont know exactly what's wrong, but alhemdulilah the pain is taken care of for one night at least, inshallah it'll be forever, but we'll see (:

BTW are you a nurse or doctor?

And luckily habasouda is readily available here. My husband just ran out to get me some alhemdulilah. I will try keep taking it inshallah. I know honey is good for inflammation as well, but I'm not sure if it will help inflammation in the joints. Barak allahu feeki for your reply habibti.

Salam sister, I thought of you today and forgot to check on this thread again! Well here I am
S3OUDIYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! I miss it so much I'm from Saudi Arabia! My hometown is Jeddah (: Where do you live?

inshaAllah you'll get better habibty. Well, if you're in KSA then you can definitely find habasouda everywhere lol

Yes, honey is brilliant for health in general, I suggest you take that too. Have you bought habasouda already? How are you applying it?

Aww jazaki allahu khair for your concern 7abibti. WHY ARE ALL THE AWESOME SAUDI SISTERS LIVING IN OR FROM JEDDAH?! lol I live all the way on the East in Dammam.

Yes alhemdulilah, I love the spice shops that sell all those cool natural remedies, I just stare at everything and wonder what it's used for lool subhanallah.

I bought the habasouda oil. I heated it and I massaged it in my knees and foot while making du'a and reciting quran on each foot and knee. Alhemdullilah the swelling went down a bit and I fell asleep. I woke up again and applied it doing it the same thing. During the rest of the night though, the pain started getting worse. Alhemdulilah 3ala kulli 7aal. I'm going to continue applying it though and taking some honey. Inshallah I will also start doing some light upper body workouts and eat more healthily to try to lose some weight as I've gained a few pounds after marriage (the food here is SOOO DELICIOUS mashallah!), so I think it will help take any stress off of my feet inshallah. When my husband was helping me walk, he was joking and calling me an old lady, so I was like "Psh you're just jealous that I will become some amazing Olympian athlete through this and become famous world wide" Alhemdulilah I am just trying to stay positive, I feel like I just want to take advantage of whatever health of have left and take care of it so I can keep doing good things with my life. May allah guide me and the rest ameen.

Get your Vitamin D3 levels checked, that is often the culprit to early onset of pain and arthritis. May Allaah grant you good health, Aameen.

    Wa'alaikum Assalaam!!

Inshallah my mom actually has a vitamin D deficiency. I'm not sure if I do as well, but I realize I don't eat a lot of vitamin D rich foods as much anymore, so inshallah I might need to check up on that. I've been taking multivitamins lately, inshallah those will help.. Jazaki allahu khair for your suggestion!
