Default Environmental groups - 09-16-2006

Both Christianity and Islam view humans to be stewarts of God's world, who should take care of it and protect God's creation.
I understand that Islam particularly treasures nature and all of God's creation.

I am therefore wondering if there are specific Muslim groups, who lobby for the protection of natural habitats, endangered species, the environment as a whole, or anything similar ...?

Thanks.

Until somebody told me that they smoked drugs and listened to guitar all the time, I wanted to join Greenpeace.

Yep, Greenpeace certainly have done much for the environment over the years - although by sometimes rather unorthodox means ...

I guess they are a mixed bunch, and certainly nor governed by any religion, so there may be lifestyle issues.

How about you start a Muslim group yourself one day? There must be Muslim scienists who have a passion for the planet and the life on it!
(Just think of all the fish!)

peace.

well, i know a pakistani who has started a yahoo group for conservation issues in pakistan, and last i knew he had quite a few members. i know there are other groups in pakistan who are working for conservation too.
they are facing an enormous task - it is hard to convince hungry people that these things matter. i admire them very much for working on these issues. pakistan has much beautiful land and a rich bio-diversity, and i am glad there are young people who are fighting to protect as much of it as humanly possible.
