His Name and Lineage:

He is ‘Abdul-‘Azeez bin ‘Abdillaah bin Muhammad bin ‘Abdil-Lateef bin ‘Abdir-Rahmaan bin Hasan bin Shaikh Muhammad bin ‘Abdil-Wahhaab. The Caretaker of the two Sacred Precincts issued a decree appointing him as the chief Muftee of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as well as the head of the Committee of Senior Scholars and minister of the Department of Scholastic Research and Verdicts in 1420H.


His Birth and Early Youth:

He was born in Makkah on 3/12/1362H. His father passed away when he was young – not having passed the age of eight – in 1370H. He memorized the Qur’aan while he was still young in 1373H at the age of 12 under Shaikh Muhammad bin Sinaan. Since he was young, the Shaikh suffered from weak eyesight. He eventually lost his eyesight in 1381H.


His Early Studies:

He studied the “Book of Tawheed”, “Three Fundamental Principles” and “An-Nawawee’s 40 Hadeeth” under Shaikh Muhammad bin Ibraaheem Aali Shaikh, Muftee of the lands of Saudi Arabia. This was from 1374H to 1380H. He studied the Laws of Inheritance from 1377H to 1380H under Shaikh ‘Abdul-‘Azeez bin Baaz, former chief Muftee of Saudi Arabia and head of the Committee of Senior Scholars. He studied the Laws of Inheritance, Grammar and Tawheed under Shaikh ‘Abdul-‘Azeez bin Saalih Al-Murshid in 1379H.

In 1375H and 1376H, he studied ‘Umdat-ul-Ahkaam and Zaad al-Mustaqni’ under Shaikh ‘Abdul-‘Azeez Ash-Shathree.

In 1374H, he enrolled in the Imaam Ad-Da’wah educational institute in Riyadh. After graduating from it, he enrolled in the College of Sharee’ah in Riyadh in 1380H and obtained his “License” degree in Islamic Sciences and the Arabic Language for the 1383H-1384H academic year.


His Role in Da’wah and Positions:

He was then appointed as a teacher in the Imaam Ad-Da’wah educational institute in Riyadh, where he served from 1384H to 1392H.

Afterward, he moved to the College of Sharee’ah in Riyadh, which falls under the Imaam Muhammad bin Su’ood Islamic University, where he worked as an associate professor. In addition to teaching there, he also supervised and debated Masters and Doctorate theses from students in the College of Sharee’ah, Usool-ud-Deen and the Advanced Judicial Institute, which falls under the Imaam Muhammad bin Su’ood Islamic University, as well as the College of Sharee’ah which falls under the Umm-ul-Qurraa University in Makkah. In addition to this he taught at the Advanced Judicial Institute in Riyadh and served as a member and associate in various educational institutes within the University.

In the month of Shawwaal 1407H, he was appointed as a member of the Committee of Senior Scholars. The Shaikh also took over the role of Imaam and Khateeb in the Shaikh Muhammad bin Ibraaheem Mosque in Dakhna, Riyadh after the death of Shaikh Muhammad bin Ibraaheem. This was in 1389H. In the month of Ramadaan, he was appointed a khateeb in the Central Mosque of Riyadh.

In 1402H, he was appointed as the Imaam and Khateeb of Masjid Namrah in ‘Arafah. In the month of Ramadaan 1412H, he was appointed Imaam and Khateeb in the Imaam Turkee bin ‘Abdillaah Mosque in Riyadh.

The Shaikh plays a notable role in educational gatherings. In addition to participating in conferences, giving lectures and holding classes, he participates in religious programs on radio and television. He has appeared on the radio program Noor ‘alaad-Darb (Light upon the Path), answering questions and issuing verdicts, since 1414H.


His Children:

The Shaikh has four sons:

1. ‘Abdullaah, who is preparing his Doctorate’s thesis in the Advanced Judicial Institute.

2. Muhammad, who is studying in the seventh level of the College of Usool-ud-Deen.

3. ‘Umar, who is studying in the second year of high school.

4. ‘Abdur-Rahmaan, ho is studying in the second year of junior high school.


His Characteristics:

From the exceptional qualities that Shaikh ‘Abdul-‘Azeez is characterized with is that he had a righteous upbringing since his youth. He also possesses the qualities of piety, dutifulness, sincerity, advice to the rulers and general Muslims, as well as love and sympathy for the people, particularly the students of knowledge.


His Assigned Duties:

As for the chronological order of his assigned duties, then they are as follows:

1. Teacher at the Imaam ad-Da’wah Educational Institute on 7/1/1384H.

2. Assistant Professor at the College of Sharee’ah on 5/7/1399H.

3. Associate Professor at the College of Sharee’ah on 11/13/1400H.

4. He transferred from the University on 7/15/1412H due to being appointed as a member of the head of the scholastic research and verdicts committee due to decree no. 1/76 on 7/15/1412H.

5. A royal decree (no. 838) was issued on 8/25/1416H appointing him as the deputy to the head Muftee of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Then after the death of Shaikh ‘Abdul-‘Azeez bin Baaz, may Allaah have mercy on him, a royal decree 1/20 was issued on 1/29/1420H appointing him as the head Muftee of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and head of the Committee of Senior Scholars and the Committee of Educational Research and Verdicts.

The Shaikh continues to maintain an ongoing cooperation and scholastic relationship with the Imaam Muhammad bin Su’ood Islamic University even after his transfer from there. This is by way of him teaching in the Advanced Judicial Institute and supervising Master’s and Doctorate’s dissertations. The last Doctorate dissertation that he analyzed in the College of Usool-ud-Deen was on Wednesday 1/26/1420H.

Shaykh 'Abdul-'Azeez Ibn 'Abdullaah Aal ash-Shaykh

He is the noble Shaykh 'Abdul-'Azeez Ibn 'Abdullaah Ibn Muhammad Ibn 'Abdul-Lateef Aal ash-Shaykh. He was born in Riyadh in 1362 A.H./1941 C.E., and since his birth he suffered from weak eyesight, until he lost his sight altogether in 1381 A.H./1960 C.E.

He began seeking knowledge by studying the Noble Qur.aan at Masjid Ahmad Ibn Sanaan, and memorised the Qur.aan when he was 12 years old. He then sought knowledge from some of the scholars in their gatherings. In 1375 A.H./1954 C.E. he transferred to the Imaam ad-Da'wah Institute where he graduated from the Faculty of Sharee'ah in 1383 A.H./1962 C.E., and he used to attend some of the gatherings of the scholars in their masaajid.

He began his active religous life after graduating from the Faculty of Sharee'ah in 1383 A.H./1962 C.E., whereafter he worked as a teacher at the Imaam ad-Da'wah al-'Ilmee Institute until 1392 A.H./1971 C.E. He then transferred to teaching at the Faculty of Sharee'ah (at the University of Imaam Muhammad) in Riyadh and continued there until 1412 A.H./1991 C.E.

He was then made a member of the Council of Senior Scholars in 1407 A.H./1986 C.E., whereafter he was made a member of the Permanent Committee for Islaamic Research and Fataawa, where he was appointed deputy to the grand muftee of the Kingdom (Shaykh 'Abdul-'Azeez Ibn Baaz) in 1416 A.H./1995 C.E.

He was the imaam for Jumu'ah prayers at the Masjid of Shaykh 'Abdullaah Ibn 'Abdul-Lateef since 1390 A.H./1969 C.E., later transferring to being imaam at the Central Masjid of al-Imaam Turkee Ibn 'Abdullaah in 1412 A.H./1991 C.E. He became the imaam and khateeb at Masjid Namirah on the Day of 'Arafah in 1402 A.H./1981 C.E.

Whilst at the Faculty of Sharee'ah he used to supervise some university theses, and take part in theses discussions/debates.

Since 1414 A.H./1993 C.E. he has taken part in responding to questions on the radio program "Noorun 'alad-Darb".

He also used to hold lessons in the Central Masjid of al-Imaam Turkee Ibn 'Abdullaah. He takes part in seminars and lectures alongside his work in the field of da'wah in Riyadh and Taif.
