I'm not sure, we do know that from the times of the Sahabah/companions of Allaah's Messenger (peace be upon him) - they would encourage the believers to do more good deeds, because the only difference is that the believers strive in Allaah's cause and those who disbelieve fight for the riches of this world, and Allaah will only grant us victory if He is pleased with us. So we do good to please Him, hoping for His victory and reward. That's why during the Battle of Qaadisiyah in Iraaq, against the Persian Sassanids, 'Umar ibn Al Khattaab was Khalifah and Sa'ad ibn Abi Waqas was the Ameer of that army (leader/commander.) So he told them to pray in the nights, and fight during the day. When they did this, that battle lasted continuously for a few days, and Allaah made the believers victorious in the end. If they never had prayed to Allaah, there deeds would be similar to the disbelievers, so the Persians would beat them because they were greater in number and strength - but Allaah grants victory to those who believe in Allaah, establish the prayer, and those who strive in His cause. This is also seen in the time when the companions were opening Al-Shaam (Greater Syria) and you can see that from here: http://www.islamicboard.com/biograph...ights-day.html We also know that during the time of the sahabah, they would chant slogans, mentioning Allaah's names' etc. to strengthen the believers in their remembrance and trust in Allaah, so Sultan Mehmet may have copied this example. And Allaah knows best. | |
