yeah he was incharge of the first one...then it was mainly Khaled Ibn waleed
but Usamas army...the Prophet (sw) sent that one before he died...and so Abu Bakr said his famous line...that even if dogs were biting the feet of the prophet s (saw) wives...Abu Bakr would still send out the army of Usama...

I have some people in mind ,but that depends on which war of apostasy you're talking about.First Khalid Bin Waleed,Osamah bin Zayd, Al-Ala' bin AI-Hadhrami,'lkrimah bin Abu Jahl,Shurahbeel,Huthayfah,'Arfajah,Oman,Mahrah, and last Fayruz ad-Daylami.Oh,man i'm running out of breath.That was a good way to exercise my fingers.Hope i'm right
