Selam aleykum
since last week I have 3 colleagues now who are from Germany. And even though Dutch (my native language) is quite close to it, I can hardly understand a word they're saying. Luckily two of them speak English though ^_^

I've always thought so too since germany is also called deutschland, but I discovered that dutch is the language of the people of holland...I think..., maybe brother abdul fatah can correct my simple understanding

Dutch is spoken in Holland and the northern part of Belgium and Suriname.
Although both Dutch and German are Germanic languages and have a fair number of similarities, there are also many differences in both vocabulary and grammar. If somebody speaks German very slowly, I might be able to make out what they say, but I wouldn't be able to follow a real-time conversation.

Re: Who wants to study German?
Dutch is a West Germanic language - so it is really familiar with German
