Hard Facts About Television

The Council of Islamic Scholars (Majlisul Ulama) of Port Elizabeth, South Africa, have published a booklet on Islam and television in which they list the factors present in television that are unlawful or offensive, the existence of any one of which is sufficient to make watching it a violation of Sacred Law, including:

1) pictures of animate objects and picture making;
2) music;
3) immorality, nudity, illicit sex, pornography, etc;
4) obscene language;
5) incitement to fornication;
6) negation of haya (modesty);
7) scenes of violence, sadism, and crime in general portrayed;
8) the addictive influence exercised by TV;
9) it encourages the acceptance of aggression as a mode of behavior;
10) it encourages imitation of the crimes portrayed;
11) the brainwashing action of TV, especially on the young;
12) it stunts intellectual growth;
13) it wastes time;
14) it interferes with one's religious duties and one's necessary and important worldly duties;
15) it diverts one's attention from the remembrance of Allah;
16) and it falls under the category described by Islam as lahw (pointless amusement). (Majlisul Ulama)

In the face of this formidable array pf evil factors and harmful effects no one can have any doubt of the illegality of television in Islam. Television, as has been seen, is an embodiment of sin and immorality. Islam can never condone or permit an institution that plays havoc with the spiritual, mental, and moral development of mankind. no one will touch this because T.V., movies and photography obviously are forbidden, but no one wants to give up their T.V.'s and Play Stations.

salam-no doubt,t.v is haram.it is a saitanbox.inspite of knowing it,s evil ,people reason.main reason, oh nowadays it is is amust.with out t.v no world news will be known we will be indarkness so and so.some others reason there are so many educational programme for children .or they will be behind in class so and so
only Allah knows wat they see when elders are out.just imajine our beloved prophet is visiting our house now.wher e will we keep the t.v?in the drawingroom or under the bed.answer urself truthfully

it depends on what you watch.....
but you shouldn't watch films, music Videos, drama..etc

I would say that its ok to watch stuff like news and sports.. but movies is the same ruling as theatres as in live theatres were the actors are real live people. TV is one of shaytaans traps so i would say dont spend youre day in front of a TV because it may lead u to miss salah then 2 salah's... then it might even lead u too be late for school or work.

now and then i switch on the TV to watch a bit of news and wen i see a lady wivout hijab (99%) i say astagfirullah and turn it off. Recently ive been thinkin bout just using this forum as a basis for news and neva watchin TV again. Its just fitnah all over!
