Default Wine in Jannah? - 09-30-2008

Brothers and Sisters,

My wife has been reading the Quran and Hadith and keeps asking me questions

Her question is "Why are we allowed to drink alcohol in Jannah but not here?"

I could say to her "Its a test" but that seemed a bit shallow.

Can anyone help? She is Referring to:

Chapter 47: Verse 15

A similitude of the Garden which those who keep their duty (to Allah) are promised: Therein are rivers of water unpolluted, and rivers of milk whereof the flavour changeth not, and rivers of wine delicious to the drinkers, and rivers of clear-run honey; therein for them is every kind of fruit, with pardon from their Lord. (Are those who enjoy all this) like those who are immortal in the Fire and are given boiling water to drink so that it teareth their bowels?

Hassan Ali: I did tell her that but she asked why it is called wine if its not alcohol. Is it non-alcoholic wine? lol. Bless her!

Thanks Guven. I told her that since we wont have the same physical composition maybe the wine won't affect us in the same way.

But yes. Allah knows best

Jazakallah Khayran

asalaam alaikum warahmatulah wabarakatuh

basically, tell her that this life is a mixture of bad and good. you'll see the description of wine in the qur'an which doesn't intoxicate, it doesn't make you drunk or out of control, it doesn't give you a hangover - like the alcohol wine/drinks do in this world etc.

the afterlife is not a mixture of good or bad, but just pure good reward or pure evil punishment [paradise or hell].

paradise is all that the heart and soul desires, there are no limits, and there is no harm in what the people of paradise get and do.

whatever the people of hell experience and taste, they never get any goodness from, ie. even the food they eat does not fulfill their hunger, and has such an evil taste i.e. waste from bodily wounds, boiling hot water etc.

Muslims are tested for their patience in this life and sincerety to Allah. We are given a mixture of bad and good to test our sincerety to Him, to give us a slight taste of some good/bad etc. and whatever He forbids us for our own good, and whatever He invites us to do is for a greater good.

I am not quite sure and might make mistake so please forgive me if I give the wrong info. But I heard the reason alcohol was prohibited (it was allowed before) because muslims couldn't perform their prayers probably, therefore, Allah , SHW, ordered alcohol to be avioded. Hence, haram.

Is it that in Jannah (heaven), humans are no longer needed to pray therefore can consume alcohol? I am not sure but may be. I have no source to back my writtens so you guys have no reason to believe. ;)

Wine in Jannah does not intoxicate, wine in this world does.

I, too, have heard (and read) that it was halal to previous ummats but did not want to interrupt the flow of the thread for fear of bringing down an avalanche of google pastings upon meself

dare I say they had only access to earthly brewers/distillers etc

It was bit off topic question. What I meant is Are muslims required to perform prayers even in heaven? If no then may be that is why alcohol is allowed. But I am just manupilating this so could be wrong.

Lets take the hypothetical situation you can get drunk in Jannah. Firstly, you can't harm in Jannah. Alcohol is prohibited in this life, because it not only causes alot of harm to you, it can potentially lead you to harm others due to it. I think that makes any further questions unneccessary.

I think it says some where else in the Quran when its talking about wine that it will have all of the alcohol out of it. So it would not make the person "drunk", if you get what I'm trying to say.

Very interesting question Brother. Does anyone know? Will we have to perform Salaat in Jannah?

No you dont HAVE to perform salah in jannah but if you want you can , wouldnt be nice when you can perform salah with Prophet Muhammed ( Sallallahu aleyhi wa sallam )

But I think you would be automatically thinkin( thanking, praising etc.) of Allah(swt) in Jannah, so i think it wont be obligatory for us like in this world

I know I dont have resources but ive heard this in some lectures

Soo Allah Knows BEST!
