The Inquisition

‘Hey listen’ I said.

‘What? What happened?’ She replied in panic.

‘Nothing. I have to go’

‘Go? Go where?’

‘I have to go to the airport’

‘Airport? Why?’

‘I have to go the airport because Avinash is coming’

‘Avinash. Avinash who?’

‘Avinash is coming from New Jersey by this Lufthansa flight. U know him, don’t you?’

‘ Yes, I know your friend Avinash, stupid. But why is he coming?’

‘He is coming to see his parents, Baba. What else?’

‘I see. But why is he coming at this hour?’

‘Because the flight from Frankfurt comes at this time’

'Frankfurt? But you said New Jersey?'

'This flight is coming via Frankfurt'

'Why?'

'Because this is a Lufthansa flight which touches its base, Frankfurt'

‘I see. But why you have to go?’

‘Because I want to meet him’

‘Meet him? Why now? Why can’t you do it later? Maybe tomorrow?’

‘Because he is leaving tomorrow morning’

‘Leaving? Why so early? Why Tomorrow morning?’

‘Because he is catching Lucknow Shatabdi. That’s why’

‘Lucknow? He lives in Lucknow? Oh yeah. I remember. But where is he staying?’

‘He is staying at Radisson. He has to leave early’

‘Why didn’t u ask him to stay with us? That would have been very convenient’

Convenient for him or us, I wondered.

‘I asked him, but he has to leave early for New Delhi Station’

‘I see. Why didn’t u ask the driver to stay?’

‘No. I can drive myself. Moreover, I didn’t want to trouble him at this hour’

‘Trouble? What trouble? We pay him for that, don’t we?’

‘I know. But I can drive’

‘Why don’t u take a taxi?’

‘I said I can drive’

‘When will you come back?’

‘As soon as I meet him and drop him at the hotel’

‘When will that be?’

‘I don’t know. It all depends on the arrival of Lufthansa flight’

‘International or domestic airport?’

‘International, of course’

‘I know! Are you sure you will have no problem in driving? Shall I come along?’

‘No No. I can manage’ Her coming along will be more of a problem.

‘Drive carefully, will you?’

‘I will. Achcha Baba, May I go now?’

‘Go. Who is stopping you?’

I am tempted to reply

‘Will you give me a call from the airport?’

‘Shrimatiji, I am going to the airport not Newport’

‘Just in case, the flight is late or something. Will you?’

‘Sure I will’

‘Switch on the headlights. OK?’

Switch on the Headlights- I felt like beating my head against the dashboard.

‘I will’

‘I will give you a call’

‘Don’t’

‘I will wait for you’

‘Don’t wait for me. Sleep’

‘Don’t start talking with him in the hotel’

‘I won’t’

‘Let the poor guy rest’

Let me rest, mataji, I felt like saying.

‘Take care’

‘You too. Bye’

'Park properly'

'I will'

‘Bye. Love you’

You spend 23 hours with them, but for that ONE hour, you have to go through an inquisition.

That was a headache... and btw a "mu'menah" ( wife ) wouldnt be like that.... from the name of that lady sounds to me that she is a Hindu...and also assuming her husband is aswell....
