Salaam o alaikum Annie,

Well, Prophet Yaqoub or Jacob (AS) was known as Israel. So its basically his name and his progeny is called the Children of Israel. So Allah(SWT), whenever He is referring or talking about them, He addresses them as Bani(Children of) Israel.

Hope that answers your question.

Alaikum Salaam

sorry for all the typos... go read sura 17 verse 7... you'll see what will become of them after the 2nd rise.... first rise they were as tyrannical but not as powerful and were destroyed by titus 70AD... they wrote their secret text then the talmud... less than 5% of jews today are of the original tribes... the actual semites... descndants of Abraheam(PBUH) muslims from middle eastern origins are true Semites .. certainly not your typical NY jew who is of european origin... so next time they use the term anti-semite... you can have meriam webster dictionary answer them... they haven't much of an argument with one who knows history or their religion well....

I didn't know or realize that either, but it certainly answers a lot of questions. Unanswered in my mind.
The tyrant in Israel, and Zionists, then are using this phrase to accomplish the tyranny of today, and fool the people; they have...
And the people of the world, US, follow blindly...

it is very important to learn the history of khazars who converted to judiasm in the 7th century I believe by decree of the king who decided to do so to be a third power since there was the muslim empire and byzantium.... please know that there are part of iraq today where the madeans are that still speak aramaic the langauge that jesus spoke... all religions come from the middle east Abrheam (pbuh) was originally from Iraq and travled down through palestine and obviousely saudi arabia.. Jesus (PBUH) is from palestine... they will have you believing they are westerners of some sort... mesopatmia was the birth place of civilization.... I can't emphasize the importance of learning history... especially Islamic history... they can't hold an argument for two mins with someone who is well versed in theology and history... so be armed... read the bible and the torah and the talmud and of course the quran... purchase books by islamic scholars that go extensively into these topics please.... NOw... please please pray for me I am going through a hard time... I'd give my all to this forum but I am so down ... I am going to post a short piece of who exactly is Israel

the land of Palestine was "supposedly" promised to the seed of
Abraham. If one researches the Ancient Hebrew laws, the right of decent or
inheritance is based on the eldest son, no matter whom the mother is. If
this is the case, then the land was promised to Ishamel (for he was the
eldest of Abraham's sons) and the Father of Palestinian Arabs. In addition,
modern day Jews from Russia, Poland and most parts of Eastern Europe have NO
genetic link to the ancient Hebrews - they for the most part are decendents
of Khazars, who converted to Judaism in the 7th century (this has been
documented by Jewish scholars, not Arabs). The modern day Palestinians can
claim a more direct link to the Hebrew tribes than the founders of modern day
"Israel." What the Western Press purposely avoids mentioning is the fact
that at the start of the 20th century, less than 5% of the land of Palestine
was Jewish. The modern State of Israel was built on lands illegally taken and
assimilated from Palestinian Christians and Muslims. Also, the Hebrews only
ruled the land of Palestine for a combined 411 years - the Muslims have ruled
the land for 1,500 years. In addition, the land of Canaan (Palestine) had a
history long before the Jewish tribes immigrated to the area.

I hope this helps,

Interesting question Sam.I once mentioned to someone what I observed in the Quran.I noticed that when Allah (Subhana wa ta'ala) uses the name Yahood in the Qur'an the tone is always harsh. But in verses where He displays His compassion towards them He uses the name Bani Israel or other names. So to me Allah(swt) is using the term Yahood to refer to a people who choose to call themselves 'Yahoodi' because of their ancestory more than anything else and who pride themselves for being priveledged and superior to everyone else(i.e.gentiles).And Allah knows best.
A brother who goes by the name of Rafeeq made that statement in another forum.

yahood derivative of houdna = covenant... those who made a covenant with God... Israel... anything with AEL ending usually has to do with God hence the names of the angels.... I believe the term Israel means the one who gives thanks to God and that was attriubuted to Jacob (PBUH)... please correct me if I am wrong or if you come across evidence of the reverse... kindest regards
