I have just found out, that though many fast food eateries that display the halal word on their premises, giving the clear indication that their meats used are halal, may not actually be using the correct chains of supply.
I normally always ask before I place an order if the meat is halal even if the sign says so.I did this on my recent visit to a local place in oldfield circus, greenford, and believed that I was buying in confidence,I made an issue stating I wanted an alternative soft drink to coca cola,( as many of my friends have warned me of the findings relating to the ingredients).
I was refused at first but after my brief explanation, the owner obliged and offered me an alternative.I was happy and believed that at least I have shared something of some use.
A few days later my sister was mistaken for me, and was told that they had called up the head office of coca cola and that though they will not publish thier ingredients pork extract was not used.My sister explained it had nothing to do with her and can not comment.The owner said if I thought the meat was hahal it cant be, as the slaughter houses in the uk are all owned by the jews and the meat is not halal.
The final comment,he said if your sister is so strict why doesn't she cover her head?
To which my sister though quite astounded replied maybe because she is not a muslim?This confused him even more...........
The point I am making is if I am told the food is halal,that is usually enough for me to have the confidence in what I choose to eat.I f the owner honestly believes the meat is not, why is he allowed to display the halal sign to attract custom from mor discerning customers, and the covering of the head?
We wont even go there!!!!!!!!!!!! but I wonder if a muslim girl that doesnt cover her head would have found this remark a little offensive?
I have called the halal board and they have stated his comments are not true,there is a body that governs the way halal meat is certified under strict regulations.However to warn you, a premise that displays the halal wording may not be using the full certified chain of halal suppliers.
This is very wrong as now I realise that I can be misled and there is no law to prevent a premise from stating the word halal........when in fact it may not be.

i always have the same problem too... even if i see a halal sign i still ask and they give me these looks once i went to this turkish kebab shop and all the people there are supposed to be muslim but Subhan'Allah i asked the guy if the meat was halal and he started laughig in my face and said yes he pointed at te saveloy sausages and said that its ok these are halal too God wont mind Astaghifirullah, i just looked at him retardedly and walked out, now everytime i walk past their shop they look and talk about me and start laughing!
mean people!
i mean if it is not halal its not halal how hard is that!!!! just say so why commit extra sin as muslims?????

im not even talking about meat..here in the u.s most Muslims who do watch what they eat when it comes to halal and haram dont even eat meat,there is no halal meat served in resturants and local shops...so we look at little things such as snacks..alot of chips that we eat on a daily bases are haram

bakery items
candies
listen goes on and on
its so hard to eat without having to call the company,and you better call during the week because they're not open during the weekend when we usually eat out...
they make everything so difficult...you have to call numerous times just to get a staright answer..i called one time and they told me it was halal and told my friend it was haram...SubhanALLAH they're messing with our heads
you wont imagine how many different names they have for 'pork'...all these fancy names,SubhanALLAH
we usually overlook the enzymes,in which usually contain pork ingrediants

and coke cola is halal!
I have doubts about coke cola,there are numerous reports on the internet,and even knowing that the company is being accused of using extracts from pork in their drink for years,they havn't cleared the matter.I know some mosques in london will not permit the drink on their premises.Pepsi cola is fine so far.I now try to buy cola if it has suitable for vegetarians on it.
But in all fairness there are so many items out there to decieve us.I wont be surprised if a time comes that many will only eat or drink anything strictly home made.

It is good of you to be particular,there should be some kind of policing here in the uk.I mean honestly,hand on your heart,the practice is wrong.either it is halal or not,at least I have a right to make an informed choice of what I choose to eat and drink.The muslims that are trading and quite frankly misleading us to part with our money for their own gains is wrong.They should be honest and there is a huge enough market here that will still buy from them.
If I opened an eatery that displayed the word KOSHER, and I did not have a certificate,yet I sold the food to some naive members of the jewish community,on further investigation of my wrong doing I am sure I would be condemned and there would be an outcry,possibly a legal issue.
I sincerely hope there will be some kind of lobbyng to forbid anyone stating halal in the window if it is totally misleading.

I think its disgusting,to mock some one who is trying to make an informed choice.I just believe you should not be permitted to display the word halal in the window if the food is not.Can u even imagine what would happen to a business if it displayed the word KOSHER, and it wasnt.
I believe there should be a regulation to stop fast food places and the like to stop displaying the word halal for the pure motive of financial gain if it is not.They are clearly trying to sell under false pretences to people who would never buy from them if it was not halal.

I know,but many may agree that when you discover that you are being misled to consume foods by people that really should know better,ther is a level of discomfort that is caused.
I just believe that a business should not be allowed to display the word halal if it is not.There is a loophole that they are using,as trading standards cant do anything about it,even though its misleading.They are tring to make a financial gain by misleading muslims,or any one who would only eat halal.

In Malaysia, shops which claim to sell halal food must display Halal certificate given by the religious authority (in Malaysia it's JAKIM)... it must be renewed on yearly basis...which means every year the JAKIM officers would inspect the premises.
The consumers can obtain halal status via surfing JAKIM website or SMS..

Thats good.Its quite sad that we have to see the certificate to have buyers confidence.These businesses are making a joke out of people for financial gain.I had spoken to the Halal board in the uk, and they stated that unfortunately there are eateries that display the word halal, dont have a certificate and it is not illegal!!!!!!!!!!!I must add that I am confident it will be,once enough people make a collective noise about it here.

What I dont understand, when something is advertised as Halal, its most likely to be Halal. If its not Halal, is falsely advertised its not our fault. McDonald's southall, do Halal chicken, now they provide coke with there meals. Do you think Halal Food Authority would allow that?

very good point.But Mcdonalds never claim that all their foods are halal, they are just stating that the chicken is halal so at least customers that were never able to eat anything before apart from fillet of fish,can now choose to eat chicken.As regards the cola drink,they can sell what they want,if its cola suitable for vegetarians should be ok.There are so many cola drinks that are!!!!!!!!!!If you check on the net,just look up coca cola with pork extract, and see how many articles come up.
I am worried about cross contamination,so personally I wouldnt want to buy halal chicken from them because I am sure things are mixed up when fried stored etc.I mean alot of simple fries are cooked in lard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Totally accepted,but why are some fast food places allowed to display the halal sign in the window and not have a certificate?Believe me I will always ask to see the certificate now.But it is a disgrace to have to go to these lengths at the till before I place an order,just to make sure.I called the HMC and they told me that there are places with the word halal and they do not have the certification and there is no way to police this practice at the moment in this country.

If it says halal, I'm eating it hands down... just say Bismillah because you're eating it with intentions that it is...It's hard enough to find halal food...dangg. Plus I'd believe it if it's assured by big companies like Mcdonalds or Burger king.
And there's a halal mcdonalds in southall? Wow I'm going to london ASAP.

The issue is not entirely religious,It is safer to eat halal meat for health,so many of my friends choose to buy their meat from outlets that claim to be Halal,purely for the health benefits.the way things are, with the level of corrupt practices resulting in many businesses looking into financial gains through false advertising,seriously I think I may just consider becoming a vegetarian!!!!!!!!!!!
Its a duty for me to just make aware to others that people may not be getting what they think.The rest is upto the individual.I have looked onto the HMC board and the findings have been an eye opener.
