    bad habits & Islam

    Salam.
Bad habits; we all have had one. I have a bad habit I am not proud of. I know you all want to know what it is but I really don't feel like disclosing it. I will tell you that I'm trying to get rid of it. Everytime I try, I start again. I am praying for forgiveness constantly but feel like a hypocrite when I eventually repeat the sin. What are some good duaas I can use to seek forgivness and drive shaytaan out of my heart? I want to go to Jannah and I want to be a good person & I'm determined to be one. I don't want to be a hypocrite anymore.
Thanks for listening...keep me in ur prayers inshallah.
    Wasalam

try fixing your iman from other aspects such as praying (if you dont), striving to seek knowledge.

quitting something isn't just a matter about quitting it solely, usually there is something more to it. and whatever that is, it needs to be removed as well.

i'll use a sister who doesn't wear a hijab or a brother without a beard. simply putting a hijab on and growing your beard isn't going to work if there are other factors that are stopping you from doing so to begin with. peer pressure could be one of those factors so in this case, getting new friends who have a good influence would make the process easier.

the same thing in your case. its not just matter of giving up, you have to find the problem that is causing you to commit these sins and try remove/rectify it.

    Here's a du'aa' for forgiveness:

Narrated Shaddad bin Aus: The Prophet said "The most superior way of asking for forgiveness from Allah is: 'Allahumma anta Rabbi la ilaha illa anta, Anta Khalaqtani wa ana abduka, wa ana 'ala ahdika wa wa'dika mastata'tu, A'udhu bika min Sharri ma sana'tu, abu'u Laka bini'matika 'alaiya, wa Abu Laka bidhanbi faghfirli innahu la yaghfiru adhdhunuba illa anta." The Prophet added. "If somebody recites it during the day with firm faith in it, and dies on the same day before the evening, he will be from the people of Paradise; and if somebody recites it at night with firm faith in it, and dies before the morning, he will be from the people of Paradise." (Sahih Bukhari, Book #75, Hadith #318)
