    Report bad ads?

    Al salamo aalaykom.
For the past week I keep on suffering from blasphemous thoughts about islam although I know the truth. These thoughts are so powerful to dwell with. Each time I get them I tend to argue with myself or I'd search on the net to convince myself. I'd feel relieved for a few moments then these thoughts kept coming back I'm different ways but still the same idea. I heard it's coming from the shaytan but that's not enough to help me get through this problem. Each time I pray or recite quran or think of allah I feel guilty and not peaceful. Please help me

    Re: Advise

    Question:

I have also lot of waswasa on my state as a believer i.e. I have doubt whether I have committed shirk by thinking evil thoughts, and also when I bend or crouch I get under tension due to fear of committing shirk. What should be my approach?

    Answer:

    بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيْم

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

These are mere whispering of Shaitaan. Even the Sahaba (Radiyallahu Anhum) used to get such whisperings. Once when they got worried due to the whisperings and consulted the Prophet (sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam), he told them that that is clear imaan. In other words, when a person gets whisperings and he gets worried by them, it is clear proof that he hasiman. If he did not have iman, he would not have become worried.

The way to be cured of whisperings is to ignore them. You see, Shaitan wants to make Muslims worried, guilty, depressed and sad through his whisperings. If he sees that his whisperings are having the desired effect, he will continue until the symptoms become worse and worse and worse.

Shaitan has no mercy. His ultimate aim is to make one ungrateful, and hopeless and depressed so that he stops obeying Allah Ta'ala and ends up in Jahannam, with him.
One the other hand, if Shaitan sees that you are not being affected by his whisperings, he will gradually stop and will pick on someone more vulnerable.
Instead of becoming worried and sad by these whisperings, exhibit happiness, cheerfulness and even ecstasy when you get these whisperings.

This will make Shaitan hopeless and he will think that his whisperings are having the opposite effect; and therefore he will gradually leave you alone. Obviously, Shaitan does not have knowledge of the unseen to know that you are faking the happiness.

Also, every time you get such whisperings, think of the greatness of Allah Ta'ala that how He has made the hearts of humans such that they contain endless streams of thought. This will also cause Shaitan to gradually leave you alone.

Also, read our answer on depression.

    And Allah Ta'ala knows best

    Re: Advise

So you put on a fake image for shaytan? Is he unable to know how we truly feel?

I think the key is steadfastness! Allah swa loves those who are steadfast in their religion. Anyone can pray their 5 times salaah for a day for example, but to do this for the rest of your life i.e when you are at work, on your marriage day, when your closest family member has passed away :-( etc this is the greatest challenge and test.

Ss carry on with your good deeds and as Muslim Woman has kindly posted to ignore the whispering s of the shaytaan! You should be happy and feel reassured that you are affected by these thoughts.

There's a book here which goes in great detail how shaytaan works

    Please help

This issue that I am going through for the past two weeks is really serious and I need help! Well, I was watching a bunch of islamic lectures in youtube until an atheist came up and asked a question that caused me fear. Then doubts came up to me and I tried to dwell with them. I want to believe in allah but I have a thought saying it's all a man made concept but I argue with myself saying how come their are scientific facts in the Quran. But these thoughts are so powerful and not worth arguing with. My imaan is very week please help me not to commit a shirk. I don't want to go to hell because of this please help ( this is not waswas btw) I know it's a test from allah but I feel like my faith is gone. How do I get it back and provw to myself that religion is not a man made concept. Please give me good resources about islam

    Re: Please help

Atheists like to try and use science to discredit religion, but really they themselves are going against science by saying that “there can’t be a god.” Part of the scientific method is not ruling out possibilities that cannot be absolutely proven wrong with physical evidence. If something can’t be 100%, without a shadow of a doubt proven wrong, it cannot be scientifically ruled out. All things in the universe and existence itself tend to point to the idea that there had to be a creator to cause the big bang and bring about all things over the course of time. The Qur'an and the plethora of scientific miracles within it are undeniable proof. The expansion of the universe, atmospheric pressure, the development of the human embryo, the orbits of the planets and the stars, and several others are clear proofs that could never be fabricated.

Wernher von Braun, one of the pioneers of the American space program, said “My experiences with science led me to God. They challenge science to prove the existence of God. But must we really light a candle to see the sun?”

stay in wudhu brothers and sisters, and stay in dhikr... occupy your mind with worship, and do it happily - the shayateen will quieten down, then leave you - don't forget salaah - this is a MUST.

It's says in the Quran that allah seals the heart of disbeliever. Whenever I read something about islam I have this push inside of me telling me blasphemous things. Is this because allah sealed my heart. I getting confused on whether i believe or not. Does these thoughts affect my belief or is it shaytan playing games on me. How do I ignore these thoughts because they seem so real and inevitable.

    Assalaamu alaikum Sara,

I understand this as meaning basically, that everything is dependant of Allah. Yes, He has Gifted us with free will, but even this is under His Power. So if you choose to cover your heart, He will Cover it for you. And if you choose to open your heart to Him, then He will Open it.

    (smile) I hope this helps.

May Allah, the Omnipotent, Strengthen you against the waswasas of our enemy, Shaitan.

    Re: waswas

Reading the first post, I understand that there is more than one problem. Shaytan is attacking you in many ways. Every thing, every thought, doubt, image, or inspiration that comes from him is recycled, you are not alone is what you are experiencing, but you are quite strong in asking for assistance. May Allah (SWT) assist you to near him. In my experience, the following will help relieve your condition.

He attacks you because of lack of knowledge of Allah - The best cure is the opposite, which is knowledge of Allah, his attributes, and his perfection. You must know all of the ninety-nine names in this book: ghazali.org/books/Ghazali-99-Name-of-God.pdf. Read them every morning after Fajr with the correct understanding. It will bring a light into your heart that will repel Shaytan's darkness and weaken the strength of his words. Reciting Surah Yasin every day after Fajr is a source of light and protection from Shaytan.

Why his whispers are especially potent - They are strong or weak in relation to the following: your sins; what things are dear to your heart that are his property such as music, blameworthy traits such as malice, greed, envy; your level of physcial cleanliness; how much and what kind of food you eat; what your goals in life are. All of these indicate something more important.

At the core of the issue is how much light you have from Allah. This light is in your heart. Without it, your dhikr and arguing with Shaytan won't repel him. Ghazali wrote in this book: ghazali.org/books/skillie.pdf that a man once saw himself in a dream. Shaytan was leaping at him. The man picked up a stick to ward him off, but he heard a voice tell him that Shaytan is not afraid of that, he is only afraid of the light that is in the heart. It's enough right now for you to know that light comes from Allah, and it grows when we are sincere in prayer, exercise patience in adversity, recite the Qur'an properly, and other acts. It reduceswhen we sin.It guides our actions and thoughts. It also fuels the words that we recite. Asdescribed by Ghazali, peoplemust understand that Shaytan is only afraid of the light that is inthe heart of every believer that fuels our speech and repels him, notjust the sounds by themselves.

The things mentioned earlier reduce your light and strengthen Shaytan's voice and ability. The solution is to cultivate your light. I can tell you with certainty that it will wear Shaytan away because his corrupt words, suggestions, darkness, and other tools cannot remain where there is light from Allah. Along with understanding the ninety-nine names and Surah Yasin, I recommend the following:

Clean your heart - Think of all of the wrong you have ever done. Do istigfar as your recall the sin. Think of all the people you may have hurt and who may have hurt yo
u, and ask Allah that anyone you may have wronged forgive you, and that you forgive every one that has every wronged you. If you've never made this prayer, you will know it's correctness when you make it. Gradually implement the sunnah in the other areas, such as giving up things which are not your concern, avoiding the gray areas, opposing bad character traits, and others mentioned by Ghazali. Without cleaning it, he roams freely in your heart, saying whatever he pleases, and your words are ineffective.

Be physically clean - apart from showering, remember to cut your nails, removing pubic and underarm hair. I must tell you that brushing your teeth, with just a tiny amount of toothpaste is fine, right before prayer or after eating anything will weaken Shaytan's ability.

Don't eat junk food - Eating what a Muslim has made is always preferable because it has more blessings and less of Shaytan's influence. Eating too much will strengthen his ability and suggestions. Remember to say the du'a before eating.

Set good intentions in life and in fact before every action - If you're going to school, do it to please Allah. Constantly being in a state of remembering Allah will make your heart an unappealing place for Shaytan which will weaken his suggestions and his influence over your heart. Intentions not only make you feel good inside, they have consequences. Allah assist and rewards people based on their intentions. You may have angels that assist you on your way to school and ward of Shaytan simply because you made a good intention.

At its core, you must build your light from Allah. The suggestions above will help. Please consider these things and update us on how you are doing.

Wa Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuhu

...I get the picture of some people telling me that when they get close to the edge of a cliff, they can almost hear a voice telling them to jump off. And it is a powerful, mesmerising one. They know the answer yet the draw is irresistible..

Your best answer to that situation is not to go near a cliff.

But if that is an everyday journey, you need to better prepare and be on full alert. Or learn to focus on different things or aspects.

    May Allah give you respite.

    Re: waswas

Just had a thought, but it has been my conversation topic of late.

We know Syaitan's sworn plan is to lead people astray. As such, it we pondered a little, might realise that if we are already happily down the 'astray' road, I don't believe Syaitan will waste further time on us. He'll go to the next, and the higher the understanding and potential faith, the greater the challenge. You have to appeal to Allah.

So, you can take it as a compliment that Syaitan puts such challenge on you. You must pose a threat against his mission, potentially.

I'd feel relieved for a few moments then these thoughts kept coming back I'm different ways but still the same idea. I heard it's coming from the shaytan but that's not enough to help me get through this problem. Each time I pray or recite quran or think of allah I feel guilty and not peaceful. Please help me
    Asalaamu Alaikum,

Waswas can become a very serious issue and it may take away the pleasure in worship and instead replace it with constant worry whether a person did Wudu or Salaah properly. It can become a very serious issue as a person will feel overwhelmed by paranoia with regards to theri worship and will always feel a sense of inadequacy.

In worship terms Waswas means always have doubts about ones worship and not be sure of anything relating to worship as there is always a doubt there and this serious disease and illness is caused by shaythan.

What are some of the symptoms of waswas?

-You pray and then be not sure if you did.

    - You waste too much water and long time in wudu and ghusl.

    - You pray more than the number of rakats and do the sahu sujud every time. Even you pray more than once.

    - you are not sure if your clothes are clean and every moment change your clothes.

    - You follow the tiny things that are not even seen by eyes to clean them and remove them.

    - You worry too much and feel your worship is not complete.

    - You ask strange questions that people feel amazed about and show strange behavior for example: someone walks with shoes on the carpet until the spot where she prays just because she is not sure if the land is clean.

    - You spend a very long time in the bathroom, just washing.

    - You are not sure of any worship you did is complete.

And many other strange things that can tell you are suffering form waswas.

Waswas can become a serious problem especially if a person suffers from it constantly. Shaythan keeps putting doubts in ones mind and keeps telling the person that their prayer or wudu ghusl etc are not valid and that you have missed something out or not done it proprly and so you should do it again.

Your clothes are not clean, wash them again and so on. The person keeps falling for this and by this time shaythan knows that this has become the persons weakness so shaythan is able to attack the person in many different angles.

Eventually shaythan will go onto more serious matters of faith until he tries to convince a person that "Are you sure Allah exists"? Or shaythan tries to cast doubts in the mind of a person by convincing them that they had shirk thoughts and so they must do the shahada again because they have now become a kaafir and are out of the fold of Islam.

Here are some real stories of people having waswas problem:

A woman said: For 16 years, I everyday have shower and take shahada because I suddenly feel I am not sure, I am Muslim.

A guy said: For years I pray and think I did not until I stopped praying at all.

A woman said: I used to pray the prayer and keep repeating it until the next prayer.

The best way's to resolve Extreme cases of waswas are:

    1. Waswas can occur with pretty much any practising Muslim particularly if they do not have sufficient knowledge of Islam and matters pertaining to fiqhi rulings.

They care so much about wanting to worship right and please Allah and get so worried whether their deed has been accepted or not by Allah but the fact is they just do not know enough about Islam especially fiqhi matters.

So it is VERY important to learn about Fiqh and various other aspects of Islam. Knowledge is key to eradicating this problem from your life!

Join some fiqh classes face to face or online. Learn about other important aspects of Islam to. keep learning, learning and learning and you watch how these evil thoughts dissapear inshallah.

    2. JUST IGNORE shaythans whispers. He will keep telling you your worship is incorrect or you have missed out something in your salaah then you must NOT repeat the Salaah again.

When you have done Wudu and something tells you that you have missed out something or have not done it properly then IGNORE those whispers.

If shaythan tells you to do ghusl again because you never did it properly then IGNORE and NEVER obey these evil and deceptive whispers!

If shaythan tries to tell you that you have attributed partners with Allah and that you have done shirk then IGNORE IT. He wants you to lose your faith and think that you have committed blasphemy when you have not done anything of the sort. if the mind wanders sometimes then that is fine all of our minds wander.

Sayyiduna Abu Haraira (Allah be pleased with him) narrates that once a group of people came to the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace) and asked: “We experience such evil thoughts that it is impossible to bring them on our lips”. The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace) said: “Do you really experience these thoughts? Yes, they replied. The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace) said: “They are clear signs of faith”. (Sahih Muslim).

So these are signs of faith and ultimately, we are not held to account for these thoughts. However, we will be held to account if we act on these thoughts.

Shaythan will then try to make you think that you did act on these feelings when all you did was involuntarily wandered about them in your mind. Even if they did linger in your mind it does not mean you acted on it. Almost all of us have random thoughts and absurdities going on in our minds all of the time it does not mean we necesserily believe what we thought of.

Do NOT ever give in to these thoughts for shaythan is just trying to be clever but knowledge will give on the upper hand!

Whenever you get these whispers then just think: IT IS SHAYTHAN TRYING TO DECIEVE ME AND PUT ME OFF MY WORSHIP!

    3. Once you have completed Wudu then move on and ignore whatever shaythan tells you regardless of how serious it sounds. You have completed it and there is no need to think of it anymore. Once you have completed your Salaah then move on and continue with the next one or get on with whatever you are doing with your day or evening. Do not think about it and ignore any thoughts associated with the worship you have just done.

Whatever you have completed is done and is over and there is NOTHING more you can do about it so do not think back that you could have done this or that or whether you need to repeat it etc. These doubts will not affect the prayer or wudu etc which you have completed so disregard and reject the whispers that tell you otherwise.

These are all tricks of shaythan and you need to realise what his angles are. You need to play him at his own game and that way you will have the upper hand everytime!

Just think of what you need to do to please Allah and do not be extreme in religion.

    4. Who decides whether your worship will be complete or not? Shaythan or Allah? So by listening to the whispers of shaythan then you are simply obeying Shaythan over Allah! Therefore we must ignore his evil whispers and realise that ONLY Allah can accept our deeds so we should obey Allah and ignore these waswas.

    5. If you get waswas then recite the following:

    A'udhu billaahi minashaythanirajeem

    and

La Hawla Wala Quwatha Illah billahil aliyyil Adheem

Also recite the four Quls Morning and evening and Ayatul Kursi Morning, before going to sleep and after every prayer.

If shaythan whispers to you in prayer then look lft and spittle and recite A'udhu billaahi minashaythanirajeem

thank Allah, wholeheartedly, for enabling you to overcome your desires and shaytan [saying, Alhamdulillah (‘All praise is due to Allah’)]; this makes Shaytan despair, and strengthens one’s resolve.

The following verse of Surah al-mu’minun may also be beneficial:

“Rabbi inni a’uzu bika min hamazat ashayatin wa a’uzu bika rabbi an yahdurun”

Trans: O my Lord! I seek your protection from the instigations of devils and I also seek your protection from that they (ever) come to me.

    6. Why disobey Allah and listen to shaythans whispers? By constantly repeating wudu, salaah and wasting so much time then we are going against Allah and instead listening to shaythans evil whispers. The fact is Allah wants you to reject the waswas but shaythan wants you to accept them, then who will you listen to? The choice is yours...

A desert Arab came to Allah's Apostle saawslong 1 - waswas and asked him about ablution. He demonstrated (washing each part of his body) thrice, and then said: That is (the method) of the ablution. And he who does more than this has done wrong, transgressed the limit and has oppressed (himself). (Tirmidhi #417 , Nasa'i, Ibn Majah, and Abu Dawud)

This hadith proves that one does NOT need to keep repeating the wudu over and over for no reason just because shaythan is telling us to repeat it. We would then transgress and oppress ourselves by doing so! Sameway one does not have to repeat the ghusl or prayers again and again for no reason just because shaythan tells us to. We are praying for Allah so shaythan has NO say in it and NEVER has!

    7. It is unlikely that you will not be able to conquer waswas overnight. Shaythan will not give up so easily for he will try and make you feel like you just don't care anymore about your worship or shirk etc but again this is just one of his many tactics that he uses to try and put off Allah's worshippers and so know that you know the different angels then you are now more equiped to fight these evil whispers.

There are many more different angles that the shaythan will use but they will all be similar in nature, so if you follow these tips then eventually you will be able to eradicate this disease out of your life FOREVER! and start to enjoy your worship of Allah again Inshallah.

So countract all of these negative thoughts that you get after worship with positive thoughts and realise that ONLY Allah can accept your deeds and knows what is in your heart not Shaythan for he is just a deciever!

    Allah Most High has promised,

“As for those who strive in Us, We surely guide them to Our paths, and lo! Allah is with the good.” [Qur’an, 29.69]

And Allah knows best in all matters
