Help a brother out, financial situation

    Report bad ads?

    Assalamu alaikum everyone,

I'm normally very shy to ask for help from others but at the suggestion of a friend I decided to start a gofundme to hopefully help me out in my current situation. In the past I've always gone to the bank for loans and put myself in debt whenever some crisis occured as I had no one to turn to. With a single income it's taken me years to pay off many of my past bank loan debts and I'm still actually paying some, I have my VISA and school loans to pay off but I've worked very hard over the years to not spend money on anything but paying off those debts.

Yesterday I was driving and came under a bridge flooded with water, the road is concaved and has no drainage. It was deep enough to cause a lot of water to be sucked into my engine and it now needs to be replaced. This is the third engine failing on this car... The previous two engines were defective burning oil until their demise. As you can imagine each time spending over 2000 on an engine replacement is heavy... Now I need engine number four...

I've been tested financially over the years. The bank loans I constantly had to make were for constant car
maintenance/repairs due to my long distance driving for work and the second thing that indebted me were heavy medical bills over fifteen thousand dollars.

Stressed out from constantly spending money on repairs and being in debt, I decided four years ago to buy a new car from a dealership rather than to keep buying used cars. I thought buying a 115,000km car would save me the hassle of constant high maintenance and repairs. This car turned out a complete NIGHTMARE and worse than any previous car I've owned. The car was just paid off finally in August and I probably spent double the amount of what it originally cost with warranty (useless due to my distances) and taxes in (18000CAD~). The first engine when it went was just after warranty expired. 3 engines later, several brake caliper failures, and so many other things that went wrong on this car, I've easily spent over ten thousand in maintenance and repairs.

I was laid off in the beginning of the year and last year, long story short I sold off certain personal belongings and decided to use the money I had to go back to school. I am not working full time and as a result the EI income I'm getting is only good enough for food, gas and basic necessities. I'm not a spendthrift and very careful with my money. I try to use some of it to pay off the remaining VISA debt by throwing a hundred bux every other week back to the bank, depending on the situation I'm in week by week. This week I had to use the VISA to pay certain things so it's like a tug of war with debt, back and forth. I can't wait to never ever have to use any bank loans ever again. I am strongly against them but my situation has led me to have to rely on the bank constantly.

Since I am in a rather tight financial situation and I'm only spending my small income on food and necessities, this is a rather hard unxpected financial hit. Being carless now makes it even more difficult to do some of the part time work. I do personal training which in itself is not a consistent income. My focus is to finish my school. I also write articles which again is not a big side income, but enough to help out meet basic needs.

Alhamdulillah for everything as everything happens for a reason. As someone stated to me, maybe it happened to stop something more severe from happening Wa Allahu Alim.

I am really shy doing this but, I would be really thankful for whatever help anyone can give. If even 200 people give 10 dollars each that would meet my needs for replacing this engine and labour...

    JazakAllah khair,

    -Ahmed

I would post the gofundme page but I am still not allowed to post links

Re: Help a brother out, financial situation

    Wa'alaikumsalam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh.

Your engineless car still can be sold although it's must be cheap. Sell it, and then buy a bicycle or cheap motorcycle, like I've ever done in my hard time when my business collapsed because my own fault. I sold my car to fulfill my family needs, then bought a cheap motorcycle and started work as salesman which I must traveling around the city, visit potential buyer from door to door.

I didn't beg anyone because I didn't want to beg. And I want you to not beg to anyone.

I have enough money to buy an engine. But I will not give it to you, even if it's only 10 dollars because there are many other people who need this money more than you. People who have no food, people who have no shelter, children who can't go to school. Yeah, have you ever remember them and be grateful because your life is far better than theirs?.

Your problem caused by your own fault, and you must willing to accept the consequence. You did not use and maintain your car properly. You are very inefficient in spending money that maybe because your ignorance about car. Frankly, this is the first time I hear a car owner replace his engine because brake caliper failure.

Do not easy to beg financial help, do not easy to take a loan especially if for something that not primary need, because it will makes you always depend on the others. But try to work better to increase your income. In Shaa Allah, then you can buy a new engine from your own income.

Okay, I know that my advice is very harsh. You can angry. But, I do it for the good of your own.

Re: Help a brother out, financial situation

I live in Canada we have snow storms lol... bikes are completely useless and not an option.

Anyways alhamdulillah a bunch of guys from my car club, some muslim brothers and friends and one brother in particular who was one of the first muslims I met while I was a non-muslim and a teenager giving me da'wah all contributed in total and helped me out alhamdulillah. He shocked me the most as he contributed 3/4 of the money. May Allah reward him and everyone with rizq ameen.

@ardianto , akhi seriously, you have no idea how many tens of thousands of dollars I've been in debt over the years and how every single time I have no one to turn to but have to take interest bank loans. I've been working for years only paying debts back and always something coming up in my life taking me back and making me go back to the bank to make more loans only to get by and survive. I even had medical bills accumulate on me at one point totaling 15,000, I finally just paid all those off this year! Working my ass off!

I didn't go into details on this forum of how over the past 7 years I've been constantly back to back with debt and literally car problems after car problems. All my money went to fixing cars, driving 120km for work alone and other long distances every day, believe me I have never asked for anyone for help except if it was really a point where I have no one to turn to. I don't have an income but for bare necessities right now.

I don't belittle others' situations, or look down upon others, you should be ashamed of yourself. I felt shy all these years to ever ask anyone for help. To put me down like this and call me a beggar... subhanAllah. You make me feel worse than I am already in the situation I am in. Some Muslims really make me think... what is the matter with you?

In the past I've helped out brothers and sisters when I could, made donations, organized gofundme for others and realized all rizq is from Allah and everything is by qadr of Allah and we are all tested. As muslims we should help one another, that's how it always was since the beginning of this deen and when we had a khilapha.

Instead Muslims don't help one another and even put down others. My problem is caused by my own fault? Defective engines are my fault? My engine being flooded by a poorly designed road stuck in traffic is my fault? Fear Allah. If you have no benefit or help for someone then be quiet. You're the second person to give this kind of response and you both live in the east, he made a similar response. You people think we live on mountains of gold here in the west? That everyone is rich and well off? 'Land of opportunities'? Where we swim in money? You have no idea, so please stop assuming about other people's lives. If you have no good to speak, then remain quiet.

I've been helped out alhamdulillah and I won't share any more details as it's not necessary, no one from here has contributed anything and it's not necessary I didn't realize people would come together so quickly to help alhamdulillah. Maybe some day you will be in a situation where Allah tests you severely and you will have no one to help you. I come from a poor family with no wealth or possessions, everything we have is through struggles and hard work, no inheritance. I've never had hand outs from anyone and everything I've worked for very hard for and earned has been by my own hands and by Allah's mercy through hard work. Unfortunately we all have ups and downs in our lives.

At one point in my life, my mother and I were even refugees and we had no money for food. So please don't ever question other's situations and assume, because Allah will test you when you least expect it and your arrogance will come to bite you back. You also have complete reading comprehension problems, brake caliper failure relating to engine failure? Did you even read or understand what was written? Please just be quiet.

And here in Canada, a car is a NEED not a luxury. People like you from 'back home' are ignorant of the west, not everything is like in hollywood movies.

Anyways jazakAllah khair, I would appreciate if a mod/admin closed the thread, as I don't want to hear any more from someone who belittles me like this.

Re: Help a brother out, financial situation

I am sorry that I was too harsh to you. You're right, I am from third world country. So I didn't really understand why you ask donation for buying a car engine, and not for other things like medical bill or study fee. Indeed, it remind me to few people in my place who are too easy to ask donation for buying something that not important. But I forgot to consider situation difference between your place and my place.

I know this was my mistake. But you don't have to forgive me if you don't want. I will accept your anger.
