    To give up or not

    Report bad ads?

Many times in life I have asked Allah for certain things. Many He has made me wait for long periods of time before granting my wish, many times He has not granted it at all. Whenever the latter was the case, I ALWAYS found it in my heart to accept it be happy with His will, no matter how hard it was. I am only 20 years of age but I have lived a very tough life. Every trial has brought me closer to Allah.
However, for the past couple of months certain thing have been happening in my life which have put me and my family to extreme stress. In all of this, I have found that there is something that I cannot give up on and need in my life. I have prayed to Allah day and night. I have prayed during rain, while fasting, while traveling, after every salah. I pray nafal everyday and moreover I pray to Allah to forgive me for my sins. I have exhausted myself with the efforts. Then when I did not see things work out my way, I decided to ask Allah to give me the strength to live without getting this certain wish granted. But I cannot find the strength. It just doesn’t work out for me. I was unable to eat for three months and function properly. I found myself begging Allah again to grant me my wish.
I try to research on this everyday and I finally found this page. I need help as I cannot decide on what to ask for.
I believe nothing is impossible for Allah as recently my grandad slipped and injured his spine and leg. Moreover he was diagnosed with cancer. Since his body was already weak, the doctors believed that the treatment would be too painful for him and would only make the pain worse and not even prolong his life that much. My family combined day and night and made so much dua that by the grace of Allah, the cancer tumor disappeared in the time period of one night, leaving the entire hospital and and entire family in immense shock. Alhamdulillah.
In this matter that is directly affecting my life I do not know what to do. Allah knows what’s in the hearts of His creation. So no matter how many times I say ‘Allah make me happy without what I want’, He knows that in my heart is the dying wish to have what I want. Should I keep asking Allah for it even though it seems next to impossible to attain it or shall I ask Allah to just make me happy with what He has decreed for me. I have read that when we ask Allah for something we should ask in a way that we are sure that He will grant it. I want to ask Allah for what I want but then again I fear that it is not what He wants. But I am a human and it is part of my nature to want, and I have always been able to accept His decree but this time my life has come to a standstill. It is affecting my family as well and they are trying their best to help me.
I wake up every morning crying and begging Allah to answer my supplication. I try to ward of the thoughts but I am unable to, I see it in my dreams every night. For the past three months I have gone into severe depression. I just want Allah to grant me my wish. What do I do? Give up and ask Allah to help me find happiness elsewhere? But isn’t that a form of giving up faith in Him? Or shall I continue to ask Allah for what I want hoping one day He’d grant it? Honestly, this is the dua that gives me strength. But I am so confused.
Please pray for me and my family.

Maybe if you were to attain what you wanted it would bring about something worse, and sometimes not getting what you want could be a blessing and protection from unknown harm, just ask Allah to give you what is best for you. And I ask that allah give what is best for you and your family with whatever your dealing with. Ameen.

    Thank you sister.
As I said, I always find happiness in Allah’s decree. But this time there is so much disparity. I keep hoping He would reverse the course of things and that hope is the only thing that allows me to move through the day. What do I do? Stop hoping that Allah can grant me what I want?

Yes, I think you should stop asking, but instead ask for allah to give you what is best. To give up or not

I try my best to do that but it’s proving to be harder than anything I’ve ever faced. It’s been almost four months now. Everyday is a struggle. I just wish Allah would listen

Remember Allah is the all wise, and all knowing, he knows what your going through and what is best for you, maybe what you want isn’t best for you, and it may be, but the best thing at this point is to have sabr and ask allah to give you what is best for you all through it may be hard.

Re: To give up or not

    Greetings and peace be with you Ann Onn; and welcome to the forum;

I just want Allah to grant me my wish.
I think Allah answers prayers in ways that help us towards eternal salvation, rather than solve problems in this life. If you prayed for a new job, that might help you earn money, but how will that help you find eternal salvation? Could the following prayer be a clue as to how Allah answers prayers?

    I asked for Strength.........
And Allah gave me Difficulties to make me strong.
    I asked for Wisdom.........
And Allah gave me Problems to solve.
    I asked for Prosperity.........
And Allah gave me Brain and Brawn to work.
    I asked for Courage.........
And Allah gave me Danger to overcome.
    I asked for Love.........
And Allah gave me Troubled people to help.
    I asked for Favours.........
    And Allah gave me Opportunities.

    I received nothing I wanted
    I received everything I needed
    My Prayer has been answered.

    Blessings,
    Eric

You will never look into the eyes of anyone who does not matter to God.

    Quran 2:216
“But perhaps you hate a thing and it is good for you,

And perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you.

Allah knows, while ye know not.”

That is true. But then how come Allah is not granting me the strength I need to go on without what I want? I pray everyday & read verses from the Quran everyday in order to attain patience and strength. But neither are coming my way. Either Allah grant me the ability to live without what I want or He grant me my wish. How do I make Him hear me?

Aren’t you aware that Allah hears all? Maybe that’s the problem, patients is the key, you need to believe that Allah can hear you.

“The supplication of a slave continues to be granted as long as he does not supplicate for a sinful thing or for something that would cut off the ties of kinship and he does not grow impatient.” It was said: “O Messenger of Allah! What does growing impatient mean?” He (PBUH) said, “It is one’s saying: `I supplicated again and again but I do not think that my prayer will be answered.’ Then he becomes frustrated (in such circumstances) and gives up supplication altogether.
    Related in Muslim.”

Your knowledge is limited. But Allah’s knowledge is unlimited. You might think you want something right now, but Allah knows better when it is right to give it to you.

Perhaps He didn’t give it to you at that time because it would bring you more harm than good. Perhaps He wanted to test you and had you been patient with the test, He would have rewarded you with something better. Only Allah knows.

This is what my confusion has been from the beginning. Would I be a fool hoping for something that may or may not happen if I continue to ask Allah for the wish of my heart? Or shall I maintain patience and continue my supplications. Because being patient and asking Allah is what brings me closer to Him and it gives me hope to go on, even though I know that what I want is not guaranteed for me. But some people call me a fool for hoping. Others say I should trust Allah and keep asking till my last breath.
