    Dua'a and mysterioius OCD

    Report bad ads?

Hi, I was wondering if someone can help me with with a little OCD problem I seem to be having.
When doing my daily prayers I don't seem to suffer this problem at all but it seems to affect me only whilst doing Dua'a

The problem is whenever I do Dua'a I always need everything to be perfect, for example If I have an itch I stop Dua'a briefly to itch.
I have to feel completely comfortable and if I lose any concentration whilst doing Dua'a I repeat myself.
Another example is when I call god by he's beautiful names whilst doing Dua'a I feel if I don't think of the exact meaning of that name in English or Arabic I repeat them.

I normally do Dua'a late at night after Isha prayer and in the afternoon after Dhur prayer.
Constantly trying to make things perfect whilst doing Dua'a is occasionally leaving me with not wanting to do it anymore. I know how bad that sounds.

The truth of the matter is I love Allah and I constantly thank him and he is always on my mind with everything I do in my day to day activities so the issue isn't there.

The issue is just having to have everything perfect whilst doing Dua'a because of the worry it won't be accepted if I am not sitting correctly or if I have an itch or such things. The best way to describe the issue would be when talking to a friend these things do not matter in general, you talk whilst itching, moving, picking things up, etc. However when I come to doing Dua'a I constantly feel things need to be perfect and repeat myself sometimes over and over worrying it won't be accepted or not giving enough concentration because I'm busy trying to make things perfect (Seating position, any feeling of discomfort, arranging clothes so they do not hinder my thoughts). Just things you wouldn't normally do if you were talking to someone. I know Allah isn't just someone but trying to perfect the environment sometimes pushes me away from wanting to do Dua'a..

How does one resolve such an issue? Should I continue to make the environment perfect and force myself to accept this way despite it occasionally pushing me away or should I just do Dua'a without having to constantly stop to fix things during Dua'a like my clothes, or stop to itch, or repeat things if I dont fully concentrate..?

Finally, my evening Dua'a is pretty long and sometimes I feel it may be too long and exhausting me either for the above reason or just generally. Should one shorten he's Dua'a in order to alleviate this feeling or should one resolve the above issue first which will give more comfort in general therefore allowing Dua'a to be as long he feels necessary?

    Thank you all so much.

I may be wrong, not going to give fatwa only my opinion. Its your choice to accept it or not.

I think its waswas.I had the same thing as you before, when some of my duaa were accepted even if i didnt raise my hands or faced kabbah,i understood Allah hears and knows everything so there is no need to try to be perfect when we are not perfect.

Ofc raising hands, facing kabbah, sending salawat to the prophet saws etc are very reccommended things to donif you want your duaa to be accepted,so am.not saying dont do it,ofc do it.But if you are driving for example or whatevee your doing, make duaa,do your best and go through it.Dont let the fact that it isnt perfect, preventing your from it,cuz i think its only shaytan trying to make this as hard as possible for you so you can feel burned up or tired from all this.
Just know Allah is aware of everything, even that itch or whatever you feel.

OCD has become common nowadays .some OCD patients have the problem of everything should be in its proper place .otherwise they can't bear some r over clean .always we can see them cleaning and they can't see anything dirty .even kids have some sort of OCD. There r cases of divorce due to this .earlier there was only counselling via doctor .but now medicine also r provided .my cusin used to pray repeatedly feeling her prayer is not proper .finally her husband showed her to OCD treating doctor councelled herprescribed tablet daily one at night.UR only provison is to approach a counselling doctor .take it easy .

Thank you so much for this dear brother. I also thought it was a form of waswas but I couldn't bring myself to believe that because I thought what I was doing was right. I am now doing my best to relax this slightly.
If we do Dua'a and occasionally think of other things unintentionally (sometimes it's hard to detach from wordly life), should we repeat that part of Dua'a or should we continue knowing that this occurs sometimes and that we should just get back on track and continue the Dua'a knowing Allah will accept it all..? Will he accept those occasional gaps in thought whilst doing Dua'a or are those parts no longer answered? Thanks brother.

Am sorry for the late reply.I totally forget a lot of things lately as am going through a hard time.May Allah make it easy for all of us.

Again i will speak from my exp as i am not a scholar or knowledgeable.I have the same condition as you,but that is because my duaas are very long and shaytan interferes and makes me think of other things and daydreaming.
I think they are all accepted because there is no particular "opening" or "closing" of the duaa. If we ask Allah for smth,we are making duaa.So for example you see a threat (dog/snake/etc) and you say immediately ya Allah protect me from it,you are making duaa, you dont start with saying elhamdulillah, giving salawat etc, which of course is reccomended to do it because it increases the chances that the duaa is accepted, but duaa can still be answered if it is very simple. For example the duaa of prophet yunus as in the belly of the fish.It was very simple, just 1 sentence.
What I mean with this is that every sentence you say to Allah without interupted is duaa.
Maybe a tip you can do is write it in your phone as a memo or note and read it from there. It makes it easier to concetrate as you dont have to worry about what you will say next.

Also dont give in to waswas. It gets worst if you give in.When things come in your mind try to forget about it.Allah knows what in your heart and mind, you dont have to make it perfect so He can know,He already knows, its that you just have to make the cause (duaa in this case) so He can help you.

Hope you understand what I mean.No need to thank me lol, just make a duaa for me and we are good.

The ocd you experience when doing dua is nothing but satans distractions and the more you pay attention to them, the worse it would get, so focus on just ignoring them and just carrying on with dua

I too am sorry for the late response! Thank you so much for this, Thank you again brother.
My dua'a are also very long sometimes and any distraction seems to take me away from my thought process such as an itch, a wrong thought, thinking of wordly things, feeling of not sitting perfectly before God and constantly re-adjust.
At least I know now I am not alone and that I should just continue regardless of these things.
By the way, let's say someone is doing Dua'a before he goes to sleeps and forgets something, can he recite the forgotten part of Dua'a whilst in bed or should he get back up to continue it..?
    Thanks!

I think the important thing to look at here is not if Allah will answer your Dua'a or not. It is about trying to be the best Muslim you can be and simply asking Allah for what you want - that should be your focus (don't expect something, hope for something).
This is the ultimate proof that Allah does and will answer Dua'a: https://quran.com/2/186-196?translations=20
Think of all the pain prophet Mohammed (PBH) dealt with yet Allah answered him and empowered him and allowed him to excel in passing the message you read today (the Quran) and the message generations to come will read.

Where it gets tricky is when it comes to fulfilling your part as a Muslim. For e.g. Conducting Prayer and Halal Practises and avoiding Sin such as Zina and Haram foods, etc. Allah being ever so merciful means its never to late to change and ask so dont worry there.
Think of it as asking God for something and God saying, I will fulfil your wish providing you fulfil your duties. I will also go one step further and fulfill your wishes in this life and give you ALOT more in the next life.

This ayat in the Quran will also give you the strength you need to continue to reform as a person even when you are under great pressure and God (if he wishes) will fulfil your fair and reasonable requests.

    and

https://quran.com/10/12?translations=21 (this shows how man can be after getting what he wants however).

and always remember this beautiful Ayat from Surat al Mulk:

    Take care brother.
