Recently I have been having many memory recalls of people who I knew that have passed, I am led to utter 'Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilayhi Rajiun', which I would have thought is correct. I'm then experiencing sad emotions and then a tear or two is released. I have to snap out of it and continue what I was doing. I know I have suffered and am suffering some form of depression, it comes and goes. Could it be related?
However these recalls seem to be increasing hence my concern. Even when I am working, I'll just remember someone who I knew that has passed.
Can anyone suggest anything, is there any basis for this in the life of a Muslim?

This can definitely be correlated to the onset of a depressive episode. I am very very sorry to hear you are feeling so low but الحمدلله you can still "snap" yourself out of it. Depression is no joke. May Allah hold you back from falling in to that hole!
That you remember those who have passed, even if just seemingly randomly and out of the blue, shows their impact on your life and their imprint in your heart. Isn't it a good thing?
Now if you'd be wailing and moaning and carrying on hysterically, that's a different issue. That is not okay. But to remember someone for a moment and feel sad that they are no longer with you: isn't that normal? Why would it be unislamic to feel that way? Aren't we supposed to remember our own mortality? And what's the best reminder of our fleeting life? Remembrance of those who went ahead.
You pray for them and you let the moment pass. I think it's okay. You are human, created with emotions. You aren't doing anything wrong by remembering those who are gone. I think forgetting about them is worse.
I'm sorry I can't provide a clear cut "yes, this is okay" based on sound ruling. All I could find were the rulings of the duration of mourning. But you aren't in mourning?
