I need to leave my haram job at the grocery store where people sometimes buy alcohol and pork and i handle it and i need to get into computer sales or repair. im also getting an IT certification, so that should get me a better job than that after a few months. any tips for a convert?

It was tough to pin point a specific path to take as I enjoyed the networking and programming classes, but I never got my foot in the door unfortunately. Visual Basic was pretty fun but I hear that's no longer a thing. Every now and then I get the urge to try and learn it but then reality sets in...

I was thinking of just being a computer programmer for a while, but now I'm thinking about security which has a couple of paths to get into. It is possible to break into the field without a degree. The degree is the gate-keeper. It makes it easier to get into the gate but that's about it. You can seriously build your skills to a very competent level through self-study so skills-wise, you don't need a degree. You learn the most from the job itself anyway. Later on you can slowly build some experience to compensate for your lack of degree.

I'm not sure where you're located. If you're in the States then you could get by using grants from Financial Aid. You can get quite a bit from Grants alone. My entire first two years which was at a technical college was pretty much completely covered by grants which means no debt at all and no interest. Even the next two years are covered quite a bit through Grants but not completely.
If you go to school though, whether 2 or 4 year, make sure it's worthwhile. Get something that will be of some use. Associate's Degrees aren't worth much on their own except in certain fields where they can actually be useful. Make sure you can justify to yourself that your time and money is being spent with something fruitful. Have a game plan and make sure that the course you are pursuing is going to have a way into a good market for you to get well on your feet.
I'm not sure that translation is something I can learn on my own. and it also isn't steady.
If you know two languages pretty well, then you should be able to translate. I knew a guy who was into translation. I used to work overseas teaching English as a second language. He helped me get proofreading work even though I wasn't qualified with a degree or anything. He was a freelance translator full-time. He would tell me, "You always translate into your mother language." So if your first language is English, but you can read another language pretty well, then you just write the meaning into English which shouldn't be too difficult. He and some of his friends would translate and then he would send me the translation to proofread.
You are right about it not being steady. It would take time to build one's self as a freelancer until you can get some steady clients. But it is possible. Wa Allah 'Alim.
I actually prayed istikhara, and I think I should go into cybersecurity since it pays more. the real reason i wanted all these jobs was so i could marry earlier, but a sheikh advised me to marry after my degree, probably because he knows i wont get ahead in life with my lack of social stamina and disabilities and differences, without being successful with my intellect and hard work. like ive been told my whole life. "prove them wrong" "success is the best revenge" i actually found an online self paced school based on competency based assignments rather than knowledge based assignments. wait, can praying istikhara guide you to something else? or does it only prove or disprove one thing?

I'm almost 40 I've done non IT related work for my entire working career, so even if I wanted to make that move, it would be too much of a hassle to try and compete with high schoolers who grew up around this stuff. Not saying it's impossible because I have read many stories of people making career changes later in their lives, but I just don't think I'm ready to make that jump especially since I have a stable job alhamdulillah.

I think I should get a Comp TIA A+ certification so I should get a better job faster. With western governors university you can finish with a tech degree faster, but i dont wanna risk it. I need to get married. I can't work in grocery forever. But I got rejected from the first girl, so I'm considering a second one. I think the reason I gave up on the certification was because I was going to school at the time and working, but if I just focus on that and not a bachelor's degree it should be fine, plus, I was trying to quit the secret habit, but when I relapsed, that's when it all came crashing down, because I get really drowsy for days even when that happens, and it hurts my memory.

Oh I just researched on google the answer to my other question in my previous post. I dont need a degree to become an interpreter, so I suppose I should work on one of my languages, especially turkish since its the easiest for me, and work somewhere, although there arent alot of turkish interpreter jobs where i live. i might have to move to another city or state (how you say...province?) within the USA

I was gonna take up scimi's offer for translation, but then i realized his channel might contain imran nazar hossein content. anyway, i was going to study to become a doctor, being assured by an imam there is no other choice but to take up the loan, but.........also, med school is super hard, and i am an hsp, (highly sensitive person) meaning i have an overactive nervous system and am high in sensory processing sensitivity according to psychologists. combine this with everything else and med school will be extremely taxing, not to mention my gpa is low. i was going to study biology, but im starting to get into sin. i stopped looking up 'porn' but nowadays i masturbate to less inappropriate images like fashion on pinterest. im also starting to have trouble avoiding free mixing and though my obsessions with the opposite gender have gotten less, they've taken on different forms like the ones mentioned above. my mother's signing me up for a phlebotomy course so after i FIIIINNNNNNAAALLLY get my associate's degree in general studies/liberal arts, i can have a profession and possibly be in a position to get married. im just worried i could have done better. im extremely intelligent according to everyone i meet irl and my iq is in the 99th percentile. i just dont know if i can handle school.
