^^ maybe you're having these thoughts cuz you know something could have potentially happened but you didn't let it. So maybe this is a thought process within you trying to find out what could have happened.
But think of it in this way, atleast things didn't go far which may have had hurt u and disturbed you more than what u may be goin through now.
Chatting/talking with the opposite sex is forbidden..unless it is family related or your husband/wife.....this includes msn,my space, bebo, by email, by phone and all other ways of communicating...because it might seem harmless that your talking to them as a brother/sista but your making it easier for the shaitan to do what he loves best....it might start like that then you might find yourself chatting about things which are things that lovers talk about...and it is dangerous...there are so many paedophiles around..I have had some of my friends doing this stupid act and then they met with the person who they chat to only finding out they weren't there age and they looked nothing like the picture they put up on the msn...but she was cheeky...she went there an hour before and watch the particular place where they were suppose to meet....then she saw this guy their (who was at least twice her age) and as she had his number ( he didn't have hers) she called him anonymously and saw the guy pick up....and told him that she couldn't meet him because someone in her family died (such a liar lol but she aint muslim by the way) and she went straight to the police station to report him and he was arrest (he wasn't a paedophile but had been arrested for rape and UBH...) she learnt he lesson of chatting to people who she didn't know....and some actually met up with them, some got raped and forced to do things they didn't want to..and others well went missing and never found, not all got it bad, some actually did meet the right people but again why take the chance?

Jazaks for the explanation sis. This makes it more clear and understandable. The person is completely blocked from the msn. But on the other hands i do email or rarely chat on msn to get some advice or help with work. Is that a correct move?

Sis i'm happy i could be to your help. As far as your Q's, don't take me wrong and i'm sorri if i upset you, but the best thing is to avoid what you know has the potentiall to grow into something. It all depends on how sure you're about ur decision and if you've truly realized the right and the wrong in this matter.
I know you may not chat to him with the intention of seeing him or wanting to be with him and as you said it's purely for help, but to be honest with you to save yourself from any further pain and confusion and doing anything haram, i would suggest you don't have any kinda contact with him. When you are involved in something it's very hard to reason with yourself and your emotions to get out of it, so the best is not to get into it in the firts place.
I'm sorri if i've upset you and this is only my suggestion, or something maybe i would do if i was in your place. The rest is up to you. I wish you all the best inshAllah. May Allah make things easier 4 u.
All i can say is one thing leads to another. i mean you may see them as a bro/sis but then you start getting addicted. the shaytan can really mess you up. theres no point going down that road, it isnt going to benefit you anyway
