Asalamu alaikum

The cure of people suffering from enchantment or hidden evil

Similarly to many other diseases this ailment has its own symptoms. But when some pains cannot be treated by modern medicine it is necessary to find out if one is not beaten by shaytaan [ external or internal presence] or struck by evil eye or black magic.

Indeed, pains, unexplained heat, faintness, some alleged cancers [considered in hospitals as real cancers], etc. are sometimes indicators of the presence of weird evil or black magic in the body.
This evil affects the brain, body and heart of the enchanted. This type of enchantment consists of spells, incantations, intrigues and devil talisman. It is a contract and agreement between the demons from mankind and the devils of the Jenni.

We beg Allaah the Almighty the All Wise who is the only requested to protect the Muslims against any bad and keep their religion on them and provide them with knowledge and health and protection against any contradictor to the doctrine of Allaah.

From the above it is clear the danger of this matter, moreover, whoever comes to know anything from this science he has to explain it to the people , the duty of the working scholar in this field is bigger, when God the Almighty adorned them with the knowledge of religion, so their responsibility is more important. We request him God the Almighty to defend us against the intrigues of the vice enchanters and turn their enchantment upside down to afflict them and to suffice Moslems, males and females, from their vices . We request that the content of this leaflet is complying with his acceptance and be of benefit for every body who reviews and reads, Ameen.

Table of symptoms of Evil Eye
Table 1 : E.E yes no

The effects of E.E can affect someone’s wealth, their body, and their family. As a result, a physical disease cannot be healed by traditional medicine. Below are some effects of E.E: Joint problems; laziness; spots; anti-social behaviour against their own relatives; turning away with aversion against anybody; forgetfulness; anxiety; heavy shoulders; contrast of one’s body temperature; etc. Assuredly the worst of E.E is when it is associated with devil’s touch, then it can be as nasty as the black magic associated with devil’s touch because patients become more vulnerable.

Symptoms during Ruqiah (Recitation)

1. Yawning associated with tears. Yawning at other times is not proof.
2. They can fall unconscious (sleep) little while
3. The patient might start to sweat, particularly the head
4. They might feel sick or experience vomiting after a meal
5. They might wish to cry
6. Their limbs get colder than usual
7. Their hearts might beat harder than usual
8. Their body might experience a strange heat (God the All Mighty the All Wise knows best.
Table of symptoms of black magic

Table 2 : Black Magic

1.Most cases of black magic are associated with the symptoms of devil’s touch [see table 3]
2.Sudden attitude change i.e. from love to hatred, from being healthy to illness, from joy to sadness, etc. 3. Very bad tempered and quick to react
4. Their state worsens or their symptoms change when the Qur’aan is recited upon them or after that
5. Those suffering from magic feel like being urged to say something or to do an action without their will and most of the time they regret their behaviour
6. Pain in the stomach 7. Pain in the low back
8. Their eyes appear to be remarkably shining and they look up and down. In most cases not only does it suggest that they might have eaten or drunk B.M that had reached their eyes but also it could signify the presence of something
9. A very putrid smell comes from their mouth or their skin or their stomach even if they wash themselves they cannot get rid of it

Symptoms during ruqyah [recitation upon the patient]

6 – Getting bored with the actions of the other and hating anything done by the other

4 – Lack of mental concentration: impossibility to hold a discussion
5 – Insomnia and anguish at night 6 – Malaise and agitation of one’s mind
7 – Agitated sleep 8 – Frequent stomachache and painful backbone

Tying magic (To prevent someone from having sexual intercourse with their spouse or husband despite not being impotent)

1 - A Jin is appointed to prevent the flowing of man’s blood so he becomes abnormally impotent
2 - As for women there are many ways with which a Jin ties them, that is:
Sticking of the legs; completely insensitive and indifferent; excessive menstruations (that last); hymen depression; and obstruction.

Magic of sterility

Sterility of a man can be cured by means of ruqiah if it is associated with
the following symptoms: Anxiety and tightening of the heart; mental distraction; backaches; insomnia; nightmares.
As for women not only can a Jin prevent fertility but also they can cause a child premature (abortion) with the will of Allaah subhanah wa ta’aala.

Enchantment (sihru attakhyeel consists of bewitching one’s eyes)

1 – Motionless things seem to move 2 – See a tiny thing too big and vice versa 3 – One could see hallucinations that does not exist

Magic of madness

Mental distraction; excessive forgetfulness; stammer; staring; impossibility of preserving the same situation i.e. work; accommodation; one might wander and sleep in desert places; they can hardly do any work.

Magic of indolence (loss of mind)

Fond of loneliness and complete seclusion; Continuous silence and mental distraction; unsociable; permanent headache; habitual slowness and laziness.
Magic of disease (tamreedh)

Painful limb or epileptic fit or a whole body’s member paralysed or total paralysis

Symptoms of the B.M that was eaten or drunk

1. The patient feels a permanent pain in their stomach when the B.M is recent
2. This pain increases during ruqiah as long as the B.M is not old and has not yet spread all over the body 3. Too much gases
3. They feel some unusual heat of their body and especially during ruqiah
4. Some patients lose their appetite 5. Constipation in some cases
6. Very strong pain for women who are menstruating
7. When hands or feet have swollen or some spots appear it might suggest that B.M has accumulated in that area and God The All Mighty The All Wise knows best.
Table (3) of Jin’s touch (mess) symptoms

While sleeping

Anguish and sleeplessness (insomnia)
Disturbed sleep (broken)
Frequent nightmares
Visions of animals (often black) i.e. dogs, snakes, etc.
Squeezing teeth in dream
Sleep walking without realizing
To see oneself falling from a very high place
To see oneself in a cemetery or a dump or a frightening way
To often have erotic dreams
To see strange persons e.g. too tall or too short
To see always the same person or the same animal in one’s dream
To see oneself among the dead people (silhouettes)
While awake (conscientious)
Headaches most of the time without any reason (tablets useless)
Turning away from remembering Allaah e.g. salaat, invocations, etc.
Mental distraction (mind always absent)
The patient is tired and lazy: no motivation whatsoever
They speak alone or they do not speak at all
Anxiety increases at nightfall or at dawn
Sight affected e.g. flashes, strange staring, etc.
Sometimes a touched person is unable to move one part of his body
They might appear like epileptic. They can pass out (consciousness loss) and fall anywhere)
The patient complexion might change and their look is strange
N.B
It should be noted that if a person experiences some of the above mentioned symptoms this does not necessarily mean that he is either possessed or beaten by a Jin or struck by black magic. It might be simply due (if few) to physiological or psychological reasons. As for some cases such as sterility, cancer and others they must be treated by traditional medicine in the first place.
Also we should not confirm straight away that a given case is suffering from evil eye or magic since any one of them could be nasty on its own especially if they are associated with a Jin.
The following steps are recommended: 1 – Putting one’s trust in Allaah and believing that He is the only One who can cure 2 – Reading the Qur’aan and specific invocations (evening and morning) 3 – Listening to ruqiah tape and Surah Baqarah at least once a day 4 – Following ruqiah course prescribed by the raaqi 5 – Try to find the magic and remove it e.g. amulets, talassim, doubtful things, etc.

We are told in the Qur'an that Prophet Ibraheem, alayhis salam, said, "And when I am ill, it is He Who cures me." [26:80]

The Prophet, sallallahu alayhe wasallam, said: "There is a remedy for every malady, and when the remedy is applied to the disease it cures it with the permission of Allah, the Exalted and Glorious." (Muslim) Also, the Prophet, sallallahu alayhe wa sallam, said, "Make use of the two remedies: honey and the Qur'an." (Tirmithi)

The use of spiritual forms of healing, such as payers and meditation have become quite popular. This is in part a result of a resurgence in religion and so-called "New Age" beliefs. Major medical centers and health care institutions are even studying the effects of salah on healing. For Islamic purposes, the use of specialized prayers (duaa) or Qur'anic verses are known as ruqyah. The Prophet, sallallahu alayhe wa sallam, and his companions used this method of healing, as evidenced by many ahadeeth in Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawud, Tirmithi and others. Muslims are advised to provide ruqiyah for Muslims and even non-Muslims that are sick. The sick are also able to provide ruqiyah for themselves. Ruqyah is a valuable tool for treating a variety of disorders and diseases. This may include snake or scorpion bite, the evil eye (or envy), and psychological problems that Jinn may cause.

Aisha (Radhiallaahu Anha) narrated that the Prophet, sallallahu alayhe wasallam, used the following duaa when family members were sick, "Allahumma Rabban-nas, adh-hibil-ba's, washfi, Antash-Shafee, la shifa'a, ilia shifa'uk, shifa'an la yughadiru saqaman. (O Allah, Lord of mankind! Remove this disease and cure him. You are the Great Curer, there is no cure but through You that leaves behind no disease.)" (Bukhari and Muslim)

The Prophet, sallallahu alayhe wasallam, told Amr ibnul Aas, "Place your hand where you feel pain and say 'Bismillah' three times, and then repeat seven times A'oudho bi'izzatil-lahi wa qudratihi min sharri ma ajidu wa 'uhadhir. (I seek refuge with Allah and with His Power from the evil that afflicts me and that which I apprehend.)" (Muslim)

Suratul-Fatihah, the opening surah of the Qur'an, is also recommended as a cure for sicknesses and diseases. Allah's Messenger said, "Fatihatul Kitab contains healing for every disease." (Tirmithi)

Bukhari has reported that several of the Prophet's companions used Suratul-Fatihah as a treatment for a snake or scorpion bite. They returned to the Prophet and asked the permissibility of receiving a sheep in payment for providing the ruqiyah. The Prophet then asked how they knew that Suratul-Fatihah was a ruqiyah. He added that they had done the right thing. Bukhari has also reported that Suratul Falaq and Suratun Nas (surahs 113 and 114) are also protections against illness and evil. One hadeeth has reported that the Prophet would recite mu'awwidhat (Suratul Falaq and Suratun Nas). He would then blow his breath into his hands and rub his hands over his body, hoping for its blessings. Tirmithi has reported that the Prophet used to seek protection against jinn and the evil eye until Suratul Falaq and Suratun Nas were revealed. After they were revealed, he held to them and discarded everything beside them.

There are those who believe wearing charms with certain surahs or verses on them are a protection. Others believe that placing these charms on infants will protect them from Jinn and the evil eye or believe that having decorative wall-hangings with Qur'an is a protection. Some may write these verses or surahs on a piece of paper. They then dip the paper into a glass of water and drink the water. These actions are not the prescribed actions by the Prophet, sallallahu alayhe wasallam, and may come close to shirk. Allah and His Messenger have given us directions for using prayer 'whether duaa or ruqyah' and the Qur'an for healing. We must accept these directions and use them accurately while trusting in Allah's Will and Might.

Black Magic and Satanic Possession

Question:

My brother after returning from a trip starting acting very strange. He would say weird things and now doesn't talk to anyone at all. He has been sitting outside for 2 months now. He has even spit on our mother. At first we thought there was something psychologically wrong with him. However when we took him to a mental doctor he talks as if he is fine. We think he is either possessed by a Jinn or some magic was done to him.

How can you tell if someone is possessed or if magic was done to them?

How do you remove it? My mother is getting very sick over this.

Answer:

Praise be to Allaah

People who have had experience with such situations have related that the following are among the signs of a person who is possessed by jinn (or Satan):

Strong repulsion when hearing Qur'aan or Aathaan (call for prayers).

Episodes of losing consciousness and/or epileptic attacks, especially when Qur'aan is recited for the possessed person.

Frequent nightmares during sleep.

Tendency to avoid people accompanied by out-of-the-norm behavior.

The jinn who possesses him might speak when Qur'aan is recited for the possessed person.

Madness, as stated in the Qur'aan (interpretation of the meaning): "Those who devour usury will not stand except as stands one whom Satan by his touch hath driven to [epileptic] madness…"2:275

As for a person struck by magic he might experience the following:

Dislike of one's spouse, as indicated in the Qur'aan by the following verse (interpretation of the meaning): "And from these (angels) people learn that by which they cause separation between a man and his wife..."

(Al-Baqarah, 2:102).

Different attitude in the house from that which is outside the house. For example, a person will feel that he is missing his family when is outside the house but when he goes home, love changes quickly to extreme hatred.

Inability to have sexual intercourse with one's spouse.

Frequent miscarriage for pregnant women.

Sudden change in behavior without obvious reason.

Complete loss of appetite for food.

Thinking or imagining one has done something when in reality one has not.

Sudden obedience and/or love for a particular person.

It should be noted that if a person experiences some of the above symptoms this does not necessarily mean that he is either possessed by a jinn or struck by black magic. It might be due to physiological or psychological reasons.

As for curing this condition the following steps are recommended:

Putting one's trust in Allah with sincere belief that He is the only cure for everything.

Reading Qur'aan and known supplications expressing seeking refuge, the most important and effective of which is sura 113 and 114, Al-Falaq and Al-Naas, which were used to cure the Prophet himself. Surah 112, Al-Ikhlaas, is recommended along with them, as well as the opening chapter of the Qur'aan, Al-Fatihah. To cure black magic some have successfully used seven lotus-tree leaves. The leaves should be crushed, then mixed them with water enough for taking a bath. The following verses from the Qur'aan are then recited: verse Al-Kursi (2:255), surah Al-Kafiroon (109), surah 112, 113, 114; the verses which mention magic, which are: in surah Al-Baqarah (2:102), Al-A'raaf (3:117-119), Yunus (10:79-82), and Taha (20:65-69). The possessed person drinks some of the water, and the rest is used to give him a bath.

Removing the elements of magic as was done by the Prophet when he was struck by black magic by a Jewish man called Lubaid Ben Al-`Aasim.

Eating seven Aa'liya Al-Barniy dates (among the dates of Al-Madinah) first thing in the morning; if not possible, any dates will suffice, by the will of Allaah.

Cupping—removing excess blood.

Supplications.

And we ask Allaah to cure your brother and ease your hardship and his, as He is the One who cures and there is no one else who can cure.

I pray everyone is protected from such evil practices, as it simply destroys peoples lives, and it is the most upsetting occurences. To protect oneself one should read the 4 last surahs in the quran, and blow over themselves after reciting them as our prophet used to. Also one should do so before going to bed and read their kalima. The sadest occurence is when our own ummah is practising such things on one another. :'(
May Allah protect us all inshallah Ameen

JazakAllah for the post.
Guees what I heard; When you hurt urself....let me give u a few examples:

Fall down the stairs
Bang ur head on the door
Trip over and hurt urself

In other words.....u feel pain in any way......

Allah removes a number (not sure how many) of your sins off.

I've got a cold at the moment and I have a very bad headache.....InshAllah, Allah is wiping a few of my sins right now.

P.s: It doesnt mean that if Allah wipes ur sins when u are in pain-that u must go and throw urself down the stairs..... :p

“Whenever a Muslim is afflicted by harm from sickness or other matters, Allah will drop his sins because of that, like a tree drops its leaves” (Al-Bukhari and Muslim).

“A Muslim is not afflicted by hardship, sickness, sadness, worry, harm, or depression—even if pricked by a thorn—but Allah expiates his sins because of that”
(Al-Bukhari and Muslim).

“An ailment is intensified for the righteous. Whenever a believer is afflicted by a hardship, whether it is a thorn or more, a sin is taken off from him because of it, and he is elevated by one rank (in Paradise).” (Ahmad)

to practice sorcery,
to kill the life which Allah has forbidden except for a just cause (according to Islamic law),
to eat up riba (usury),
to eat up an orphan's wealth,
to give back to the enemy and fleeing from the battlefield at the time of fighting,
and to accuse chaste women, who never even think of anything touching chastity and are good believers."

Brother what makes you say that your mother is suffering from magic? it could
be a touch or evil eye only.
The first advice i give you is to play surah baqarah in your house on daily basis.
the doctors now say she is in early stages of parkinson disease.
please brothers and sisters make dua for her to get better and the black magic who ever is doing it to her to stop it.as i have seen my mother when the person does it.it is very scary.which u do not want to see.

May Allaah almighty cure your mother and save you from the plots of shaytan hinchmen. Ameen
she is going abroad in january insallah as there is ameel there that we have been recommended, that he is good.
Is this raqui a reliable person that does not get involved with shayateen?

anybody know if that the person that does black magic dies does it stop.
or does it still carry on.
Black magic or any other evil has no effect without the will of Allaah. In other words it does only affect people who don't use specific supplications to protect themselves i.e morning and evening supplications, keeping one's woodoo, reading ayat kursi when you go to bed, etc.

Also people who commit sins are more vulnerable to such evil.
When a person is struck by magic or devil's touch they can affect to some extent people round them. However when they die the above mentioned evil will disappear as soon as that person dies.

So brother put your trust in Allaah and don't be scared of the plot of shaytaan and its hinchmen for their plot is so weak.

He has padded walls and he has these gallons of water that u drink to 'get better.'

I personally dnt believe in that stuff...BUT....u asked. I told!

Question

Dear scholars, As-Salamu `alaykum. My brother was previously engaged to a cousin but that engagement was broken because of family meddling, and that ended the issue, he is longer interested in the girl. But he would like to get married, so we made some picks for him but all of them turned out a disappointment. Could it be that someone is doing magic against my brother. Could you please furnish me about about black magic? Is it real and effective? If so, how could one dispel that magic according to the Qur’an & hadith? Jazakum Allah khayran.

Answer.

Wa `alaykum As-Salamu wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.

Dear sister in Islam, we commend your pursuit of knowledge and your keenness to seek what is lawful and avoid what is not. We earnestly implore Allah to bless your efforts in this honorable way.

As regards your question, we’d like to state first that black magic is an undeniable fact, yet this does not mean when we face any problem we think that it should necessarily be a black magic. The fact that your brother did not get married till now is not necessarily due to a black magic done against him. You should search for the real reasons behind this. In most cases, these are mere Satanic whispers which Satan make use of to spoil people’s life and harms their commitment to religion. To get rid of such Satanic whispers a Muslim should be keen to read the authentic supplications particularly ayat Al-Kursi and surat Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq and An-Nas.

Generally speaking, it should be demonstrated that black magic is one of the well-established facts, and it is mentioned in the Qur’an and the Sunnah. As for the Islamic legal status on practicing black magic, it is forbidden, and this makes one’s prayer unaccepted for forty days, and believing in what magician or sorcerer says renders one a disbeliever.

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Whoever blows on knots practices magic, and whoever practices magic is a mushrik (polytheist).” (Reported by At-Tabarani)

`Abdullah ibn Mas`ud reported, “Anyone who goes to a diviner, a practitioner of magic or a soothsayer, asking something and believing in what he says, denies what was revealed to Muhammad.” (Reported by Al-Bazzar and Abu Ya`la)

Magic can be dispelled through magicians themselves or sorcerers or through applying their methods. However, it is forbidden to go to a magician or a soothsayer or the like to dispel the magic as stated in the hadiths of the Prophet.

Magic can also be dispelled by the power of the Glorious Qur’an, which was sent down as a cure and mercy for believers; doing so is highly commendable. This is based on what is known in the Sunnah that angel Gabriel used the Qur’an (Al-Mu`awwidhatayn, or the Two Protective Surahs, i.e. Al-Falaq and An-Nas) in dispelling the evil charm done to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) by the Jews. Moreover, surat Al-Baqarah is known to have the power of driving away evil spirits and dispelling magic.

Regarding Black magic and how to dispel it, the eminent Muslim scholar, Sheikh Muhammad Al-Hanooti, member of the North American Fiqh Council, states:

“The Qur'an talks about black magic in surat Al-Baqarah: “And they followed what the Shaitans chanted of sorcery in the reign of Sulaiman, and Sulaiman was not an unbeliever, but the Shaitans disbelieved, they taught men sorcery and that was sent down to the two angels at Babel, Harut and Marut, yet these two taught no man until they had said, "Surely we are only a trial, therefore do not be a disbeliever." Even then men learned from these two, magic by which they might cause a separation between a man and his wife; and they cannot hurt with it any one except with Allah’s permission, and they learned what harmed them and did not profit them, and certainly they know that he who bought it should have no share of good in the hereafter and evil was the price for which they sold their souls, had they but known this.” (Al-Baqarah: 102 )

Another reference from the Qur’an is surat Al-Falaq: “Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of the dawn. From the evil of what He has created. And from the evil of the utterly dark night when it comes. And from the evil of those who blow on knots. And from the evil of the envious when he envies.” (Al-Falaq: 1-5)

There is another verse that is relevant to this issue from surat Al-Baqarah: “Those who swallow down usury cannot arise except as one whom Shaitan has prostrated by (his) touch does rise. That is because they say, trading is only like usury; and Allah has allowed trading and forbidden usury. To whomsoever then the admonition has come from his Lord, then he desists, he shall have what has already passed, and his affair is in the hands of Allah; and whoever returns (to it)-- these are the inmates of the fire; they shall abide in it.” (Al-Baqarah: 275)

These verses are very clear in reference to the power Allah made through these jinn in magic or possession. When you say, a`udhu billahi mina Ash-shaytani Ar-rajim (I seek refuge and protection in Allah from Satan, the accursed), then certainly Allah accepts protecting you and giving you refuge against any evildoer. Reading the Qur’an and making dhikr will be helpful to overcome any shaytan’s plan. Allah says, “Verily, the plan of a shaytan is weak.” I advise you both to seek the help from Allah through practicing full Islam and avoiding any sinful arena or action.”

Sheikh `Atiyyah Saqr, former head of Al-Azhar Fatwa Committee, adds:

“The word "magic" is mentioned in the Qur'an 60 times. The verse 102 of surat Al-Baqarah has the following implications:

1- Magic has been known as a well-established fact regardless of it changing the forms of things.

2- Magic involves things that may be beneficial or harmful, as Allah says: “learned from these two, magic by which they might cause a separation between a man and his wife…”

3- Magic cannot have any effect save by the Will of Almighty Allah, as Allah says: “…and they cannot hurt with it any one except with Allah’s permission…”

4- Adhering to magic renders one a disbeliever, as Allah says: “…but the Shaitans disbelieved, they taught men sorcery…”

The views of Muslim scholars carry culminate in the following:

1-Attributing the effect of the magic to anything other than Allah renders one a disbeliever.

2-Practicing magic or sorcery for the sake of harming people is totally forbidden. Based on this, it is a form of disbelief to torture people with a magic spell or subject them to the evil of jinn.”

In brief, the first and foremost requirement as regards dispelling black magic is to believe firmly that no one, however great his powers may be, can benefit or harm one except if Allah wills it. Then every Muslim should empower his/herself through practicing Islam, reading the Qur’an and consistency in dhikr and du`a’. In particular, one may do the following: 1) perform prayers regularly; 2) recite morning and evening supplications; 3) start everything in Allah’s Name and seek Allah’s Protection and Refuge before taking a bath; 4) recite or listen to the recitation of surat Al-Baqarah daily for some days (a week for instance); and 5) put his/her trust in Allah, invoke Him always and keep away from sins.

Islamic Cure for Evil Eye

Question:

Respected Sheikh, As-Salamu `alaykum. I would like to ask you about the "evil eye". Is there something really called "evil eye"? And is it true that it inflicts harm on people? If so, what is the Islamic cure or way of protection against such evil? Jazakum Allah khayran.

Answer:

Wa `alaykum As-Salamu wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.

Dear sister in Islam, thanks for forwarding this question to us. We implore Almighty Allah to make our humble efforts come up to your expectations.

As regards your question, it is to be stated that the effect of an evil eye is a fact. This is supported by many proofs from revealed texts and reasoning. Imam al-Bukhari reported on the authority of Abu Hurayrah that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “The effect of an evil eye is a fact.”

However, the evil eye can never harm unless Allah wills so. Hence, it shouldn’t be a cause of fear or terror to anyone, for supreme power and might are for Almighty Allah alone and He is the Only One we should fear. It is in Him that we should seek protection against Satan and the evil eye. Both al-Bukhari and Muslim reported in their authentic collections that `Aa’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: “The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to tell me to recite ruqyah for protection against the evil eye.

Elaborating on the evil eye and the Islamic cure for it, Dr. As-Sayed Nuh, professor of Hadith Sciences at Al-Azhar University, issues the following Fatwa:

"Islam draws a Muslim’s attention whenever he/she beholds something great. One should say: "Whatever Allah wills is done, no power save with Allah". Allah Almighty says, "If only, when thou enteredst thy garden, thou hadst said: That which Allah wilteth (will come to pass)! There is no strength save in Allah!…" (Al-Kahf: 39)

The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, is reported to have said: "Upon beholding something attractive, try to recount Allah's glorification by saying, "Allah is Blessed!" or "May Allah bless you!" etc.

Envy and the evil eye have a common factor in breeding contempt and hatred, and showing or feeling resentment of someone's success or advantage. This is what the evil eye normally aims at.

Both are supported by many proofs from revealed texts and reasoning. However, they do not automatically affect a person and can never harm unless Allah wills so. Hence, they shouldn't be a cause of fear or terror to anyone, for supreme power and might are for Almighty Allah alone and He is the Only One we should fear. It is in Him that we should seek protection against Satan and the evil eye.

Moreover, one should never, if they don’t have proof, accuse anyone of being envious or evil, for this may result in breeding contempt and discord among people.

As for precautionary measures against envy or the evil eye, one may do the following:

1- Seeking Allah's protection against the evil eye and envy
This can be done by remembering Allah at all times and this is an impenetrable shield against Satan and his devils. Allah says: "Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of Daybreak. From the evil of that which He create. From the evil of the darkness when it is intense. And from the evil of malignant witchcra. And from the evil of the envier when he envieth." (Al-Falaq)

2- Observing piety, showing obedience to Allah and forsaking sinful acts

Allah says, "But if ye persevere and keep from evil their guile will never harm you. Lo! Allah is Surrounding what they do." (Aal-`Imraan:120)

The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said to his cousin, `Abdullah bin `Abbas: "Observe Allah's duties and He will protect you; be pious to Allah and He will always support you..."

(This Hadith is classed as authentic by At-Tirmidhi in his book As-Sunan under the chapter "Concerning the Day of Judgment)

3- Demonstrating patience and perseverance

This means that one should never show any sign of being affected by envy, nor should one get overwhelmed with thoughts on it. Rather, one should show patience, for that will definitely drive the envious or evil ones to doom.

In his commentary on the previous issue, Ibn Al-Qayyim states that the third precautionary measure against envy is to show patience rather than waging war against the envious or showing signs of being harmed by them. Nothing grieves or inflicts pain or even doom on the envious or evil one than seeing that his evil act or scheme has not affected the target. This is the effect of patience, reliance on Allah and putting one's trust in Him. Allah says: "That (is so). And whoso hath retaliated with the like of that which he was made to suffer and then hath (again) been wronged, Allah will succour him. Lo! Allah verily is, Mild, Forgiving.‏" (AL-Hajj: 60)

In this Qur'anic verse, we can see that Allah has guaranteed victory for a victim of contempt or hatred, even if he has tried his best to avenge himself of the assailant. This means that a person who shows patience, despite being a victim of hatred and contempt, deserves strong support.

4- Putting one's trust in Allah

This is one of the strong precautionary measures against envy and oppression. Allah says, "And whosoever putteth his trust in Allah, He will suffice him…" (At-Talaq: 3)

5- Sincere repentance to Allah.

If a person remembers the favors Allah has bestowed on him and returns everything that he has wrongfully taken from people with the resolve not to return to such a sin again, this will definitely bring him back to the right path. He will attain Allah's forgiveness and this will drive him away from the evil eye. Allah Almighty says, "And turn unto Allah together, O believers, in order that ye may succeed." (An-Noor: 31)‏

6- Demonstrating a "turn the other cheek" gesture

This means that a victim of envy and the evil eye should try to be good to those who envy him or give him the evil eye. He should try to be good to them by speaking kindly, offering them gifts, feeding them and showing that he cares for them, as well as being a friend in need. Allah Almighty says, "The good deed and the evil deed are not alike. Repel the evil deed with one which is better, then lo! he, between whom and thee there was enmity (will become) as though he was a bosom friend.‏ But none is granted it save those who are steadfast, and none is granted it save the owner of great happiness." (Fussilat: 34-35)

The point here is that showing good gestures to one's foe can change him from an enemy to a friend.

7- Saying a particular du`a’

This is based on the fact that the Angel Gabriel used to make du`a’ upon Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) whenever he became affected with anything.

`A’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) says: "Angel Gabriel used to pronounce some words upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to relieve his pain. He used to say: "May you get relief from the pain, cured from the disease, and be protected from envy and evil eye by the virtue of Allah's Name." (Reported by Muslim)

Abu Sa`eed also mentions that the Angel Gabriel once came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and asked him: "Are you affected with something?" The Prophet answered, "Yes". Gabriel said: "May you get relief and be protected from evil by the virtue of Allah's Name." (Reported by Muslim)

8- Washing off the effects of envy

This is done by pouring the water on a person affected with envy and the evil eye.

This is based on the Hadith reported by Abu Umamah, Sahl bin Hunayf on the authority of his father who told him that as they went out one day with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) upon reaching the valley called Al-Harar at Jahfah, Sahl washed himself and appeared as having a very fine figure. This attracted `Amir ibn Rabi`ah to the extent that he actually said: "Wow! What a nice and delicate figure! You look like a charming lady!" Upon uttering this remark, Sahl fell unconscious, and when the people took him to the Prophet, he said: "Do you suspect someone?" "Yes", they replied, "We suspect `Amir ibn Rabi`ah". The Prophet called him and reprimanded him, saying: "Why try to kill your brother in faith? Why not say upon seeing something fascinating: ‘Allah is Blessed or may Allah bless you…etc?’” To wash off the traces of envy, `Amir was told to wash his face, hands, elbows and thighs, and then to wash his feet and his private parts, over a bowl. Then the contents of this bowl were to be poured over Sahl bin Hunayf, and the bowl turned upside down. Upon doing this Sahl recovered.

(Classed as authentic by Imam Ahmad in Al-Musnad, and by Ibn Majah)

Ibn Al-Qayim commented on this process saying:

“Anyone who denies, mocks or has doubt about the effect of this Prophetic way of healing will never benefit from it. The same applies to anyone who does it in way of trial without full conviction. Why not regard this as part of the privileges in the Islamic perspective instead of condemning it. Medical practitioners acknowledge that in the field of medicine there are some areas that are untouchable and are somehow deemed as very unique."

Ibn Hajar says that the aforementioned process of washing away the effects of envy is meant to be done after being affected with envy.

Islam has also drawn attention to a precaution against that effect. This is what the Prophet means by ordering us to utter Allah's Glorification when we have something good: ‘Allah is Blessed!’ Also we can supplicate for the person by saying: ‘May Allah bless you!’”

Question :

What is the treatment for someone who has been affected by sihr (magic or witchcraft, including spells aimed at causing hatred or love)? How can the believer save himself from this or avoid being harmed by it? Are there any du’aa’s or dhikrs from the Qur’aan or Sunnah for these things?
Answer :

Praise be to Allaah.

There are different kinds of treatment:

1 – He can look at what the saahir (person who practices sihr) has done. For example, if he has put some of his hair in a place, or in a comb, or somewhere else, if it is discovered that he has put it in such-and-such a place, it should be removed and burnt or destroyed. This will cancel out what has been done and will foil the intentions of the saahir.

2 –The saahir should be forced to undo what he has done, if his identity is known. It should be said to him, “Either you undo what you have done, or you will be executed.” After he has undone it, he should still be executed by the authorities, because the saahir should be killed without being asked to repent, according to the correct view. This is what was done by ‘Umar, and it was narrated that the Messenger (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The punishment of the saahir is to strike him with the sword (i.e., execute him).” When Hafsah Umm al-Mu’mineen (may Allaah be pleased with her) found out that a slave woman of hers was dealing with sihr, she killed her.

3 – Reciting Qur’aan, for it has a great effect in removing (the effects of) sihr. Aayat al-Kursiy, the aayahs of sihr from Soorat al-A’raaf, Soorat Yoonus and Soorat Ta-Ha, Soorat al-Kaafiroon, Soorat al-Ikhlaas and al-Mi’wadhatayn should be recited over the person who has been affected by sihr, or into a vessel. Du’aa’ should be made for healing and good health; in particular the du’aa’ which has been narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him):

Allaahumma Rabb al-Naas, adhhib al-ba’s wa’shfi, anta al-Shaafiy, laa shifaa’a illa shifaa’uka, shifaa’an laa yughaadiru saqaman (O Allaah, Lord of mankind, remove the evil and grant healing, for You are the Healer. There is no healing except Your healing, which does not leave any sickness).”

One may also recite the words used by Jibreel when he treated the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) with ruqyah:

Bismillaah urqeek, min kulli shay’in yu’dheek, wa min sharri kulli nafsin aw ‘aynin haasidin Allaah yushfeek, bismillaah urqeek (In the name of Allaah I perform ruqyah for you, from everything that is harming you, from the evil of every soul or envious eye may Allaah heal you, in the name of Allaah I perform ruqyah for you).”

This should be repeated three times, as should the recitation of Qul Huwa Allaah Ahad and al-Mi’wadhatayn.
He may also recite the above into water, some of which should be drunk by the person who has been affected by sihr, and he should wash with the rest, one or more times as needed. This will remove the sihr by Allaah’s Leave. This was mentioned by the scholars (may Allaah have mercy on them), and by Shaykh ‘Abd al-Rahmaan ibn Hasan (may Allaah have mercy on him) in Fath al-Majeed Sharh Kitaab al-Tawheed, in (the chapter entitled) Baab Ma jaa’a fi’l-Nushrah, and by others.

4 – He can take seven green lotus leaves, grind them up, and put them into water, then recite into it the aayahs and soorahs mentioned above, and the du’aa’s. Then he can drink some and wash with the rest. This is also useful for treating a man who is being kept from having intercourse with his wife. Seven green lotus leaves should be placed in water, the verses referred to above should be recited into it, then he should drink from it and wash with it. This is beneficial, by Allaah’s leave.

The verses which should be recited into the water and the lotus leaves for those who have been affected by sihr and the one who is being prevented from having intercourse with his wife because of sihr are as follows:

1- Soorat al-Faatihah

2- Aayat al-Kursiy from Soorat al-Baqarah, which is as follows (interpretation of the meaning):

“Allaah! Laa ilaaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He), Al-Hayyul-Qayyum (the Ever Living, the One Who sustains and protects all that exists). Neither slumber nor sleep overtakes Him. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is he that can intercede with Him except with His Permission? He knows what happens to them (His creatures) in this world, and what will happen to them in the Hereafter. And they will never compass anything of His Knowledge except that which He wills. His Kursiy extends over the heavens and the earth, and He feels no fatigue in guarding and preserving them. And He is the Most High, the Most Great”(al-Baqarah 2:255)

3- The verses from Soorat al-A’raaf, which are as follows (interpretation of the meaning):

“[Pharaoh] said: ‘If you have come with a sign, show it forth, if you are one of those who tell the truth.’
Then [Moosa] threw his stick and behold! it was a serpent, manifest!
And he drew out his hand, and behold! it was white (with radiance) for the beholders.
The chiefs of the people of Pharaoh said: ‘This is indeed a well-versed sorcerer;
He wants to get you out of your land, so what do you advise?’
They said: ‘Put him and his brother off (for a time), and send callers to the cities to collect —
That they bring to you all well-versed sorcerers.’
And so the sorcerers came to Pharaoh. They said: ‘Indeed there will be a (good) reward for us if we are the victors.’
He said: ‘Yes, and moreover you will (in that case) be of the nearest (to me).’
They said: ‘O Moosa! Either you throw (first), or shall we have the (first) throw?’
He [Moosa] said: ‘Throw you (first).’ So when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people, and struck terror into them, and they displayed a great magic.
And We revealed to Moosa (saying): ‘Throw your stick,’ and behold! It swallowed up straight away all the falsehood which they showed.
Thus truth was confirmed, and all that they did was made of no effect.
So they were defeated there and returned disgraced.
And the sorcerers fell down prostrate.
They said: ‘We believe in the Lord of the ‘Aalameen (mankind, jinn and all that exists).
The Lord of Moosa and Haaroon (Aaron).’”[al-A’raaf 7:106-122]

4- The verses from Soorat Yoonus, which are as follows (interpretation of the meaning):

“And Pharaoh said: ‘Bring me every well-versed sorcerer.’
And when the sorcerers came, Moosa said to them: ‘Cast down what you want to cast!’
Then when they had cast down, Moosa said: ‘What you have brought is sorcery, Allaah will surely make it of no effect. Verily, Allaah does not set right the work of Al-Mufsidoon.
And Allaah will establish and make apparent the truth by His Words, however much the Mujrimoon may hate (it).’” (Yoonus 10:79-82)

5- The verses from Soorat Ta-Ha, which are as follows (interpretation of the meaning):

“They said: ‘O Moosa! Either you throw first or we be the first to throw?’
[Moosa] said: ‘Nay, throw you (first)!’ Then behold! their ropes and their sticks, by their magic, appeared to him as though they moved fast.
So Moosa conceived fear in himself.
We (Allaah) said: ‘Fear not! Surely, you will have the upper hand.
And throw that which is in your right hand! It will swallow up that which they have made. That which they have made is only a magician’s trick, and the magician will never be successful, to whatever amount (of skill) he may attain’” [Ta-Ha 20:65-69]

6- Soorat al-Kaafiroon

7- Soorat al-Ikhlaas and al-Mi’wadhatayn (i.e., Soorat al-Falaq and Soorat al-Naas) – to be recited three times.

8- Reciting some of the du’aa’s prescribed in sharee’ah, such as:

Allaahumma Rabb al-Naas, adhhib al-ba’s wa’shfi, anta al-Shaafiy, laa shifaa’a illa shifaa’uka, shifaa’an laa yughaadiru saqaman (O Allaah, Lord of mankind, remove the evil and grant healing, for You are the Healer. There is no healing except Your healing, which does not leave any sickness).”

This is good, and it may also be accompanied by the du’aa’:

Allaahumma Rabb al-Naas, adhhib al-ba’s wa’shfi, anta al-Shaafiy, laa shifaa’a illa shifaa’uka, shifaa’an laa yughaadiru saqaman (O Allaah, Lord of mankind, remove the evil and grant healing, for You are the Healer. There is no healing except Your healing, which does not leave any sickness).”
If the above verses etc. are recited directly over the person who has been affected by sihr, then the reciter blows on his head and chest, these are also among the means of healing, by Allaah’s Leave, as stated above.

Asalam O Alaikumto all,
I got to this forum through searching the net on black magic, I have been a very long sufferer of Black magic the first i knew that some body has done black magic upon us was after five years of suffering the spell, I had been extremely affected through it, always felt ill but never diagnosed what is wrong, my mother got cancer beacause of it, my bussiness was in total loss, and finally it got cancer , then one of my freind went to an Amil and he told that it was all beacuse of it. The spell was broken and then i was treated for cancer, when i was cured and at the end of treatment the "enemy" again put a spell on me now its just like a vicious circle the spell is broken and with in a month somebody puts it back again. I have gone through many amils but i cannot get fully cured sometimes i have alot of pain in my back, sometimes alot of gases in my stomach. If any person who is an amil himself is registered on this form, please help me as a muslim brother my email address is sheeraazi@yahoo.com. I would be highly obliged if some body can help. After countinuously suffering for six years my nerves are broken please help if any one can, i will pray for him as much as i can
Thanks and Regards

May Allah give you shifa. Sometimes doctors cannot diagnose a problem but they are suprised when a person gets cured without medical treatment. Jinns and black magic can cause physical damage and it can be hard to destroy in some cases.
