Doesn't really make us Muslims look too great. A lot of the slaves brought from western Africa to America were muslim. Some black people learned this about their ancestors, and so in the 1900 the birth of the Nation of Islam came into play. Instead of focusing on the 5 pillars of Islam, they focus more on "the white man is the devil". Malcom X was a member of the nation of Islam until he made his pilgramage to Mecca, where he converted to orthodox Islam (or maybe it was before his pilgramage... wallahu alim). I know a lot of people in the music industry who's curiosity about Islam came from the Nation of Islam.

Yes Malcolm X converted to Orthodox Islam after the pilgrimage to Mecca when he saw Muslims of all races treating eachother like brothers.

I too think NOI isn't a good look for Islam as it's using the religion wrongly.

Salam.

Muslims don't consider the 'Nation of Islam' to be within the fold of Islam.

There are several things which someone who claims to be a muslim must believe in, these include Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) as the last and final messenger. These believe Elijah Muhammad is a Prophet and so have already deviated.

Other facets of the 'Nation of Islam' are highly against Islamic teaching. For example, the concept of black superiority. Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said that 'no white man has superiority of a black man, and no black has superiority over a white man, no arab has superiority over a non-arab and no non-arab as superiority of an arab'.

Muhammad Ali and Malcolm X are two very famous examples of members of the 'Nation of Islam' who became true Muslims afterwards.

The story of Malcolm X is my favourite, he taught violence and hatred against non-blacks, he campaigned long and hard for a 'seperate black stated'. He advocated aggression on so many levels.

However, when he went on Hajj (pilgrimage) and saw Muslims, from all creeds and beliefs, praying together. He said: -

There were tens of thousands of pilgrims, from all over the world. They were of all colors, from blue-eyed blonds to black-skinned Africans. But we were all participating in the same ritual displaying a spirit of unity and brotherhood that my experiences in America had led me to believe never could exist between the white an d the non-white...America needs to understand Islam, because this is the one religion that erases from its society the race problem.

Once he returned, he admitted his faults and publicy talked against them, teaching that blacks and whites could live peacefully. This aggrivated the former NOI members and led to his assasination.

Hpe I explained a bit about the NOI.

I think they give exactly the opposite view of islam to what it really is. Like i dont even know why its called the Nation of Islam because islam doesn't even allow racism.

In the Qur'an its said:

O mankind! We created you from a single (pair) of a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that ye may know each other (not that ye may despise (each other). Verily the most honoured of you in the sight of Allah is (he who is) the most righteous of you. And Allah has full knowledge and is well acquainted (with all things). [49:13]

How can they be muslims if they dont even follow the Qur'an? Thats what i dont understand.

To be fair, Nation of Islam was a logical reaction to centuries of white oppresion.

The story of Malcolm X is my favourite, he taught violence and hatred against non-blacks, he campaigned long and hard for a 'seperate black stated'. He advocated aggression on so many levels.
I suggest you read his Autobiography. It's a great book

I don't think it was the NOI alone. I think the US Government helped out in the assasination. But thats only a theory.

It was actually Malcolm X's book that got me interested in Islam. After reading about his pilgrimage experience it made me wonder, Islam helps defeat racial discrimination, and wouldn't God want humans to all get along?

I wouldn't exactly say 'logical'... but understandable...

I believe the US government helped because of his promoting of Islam. The US Gov are all a bunch of kafirs if you ask me.

I understand how they felt they had to dominate through uniting, but i dont understand why they used 'islam' if they went against alot of the things that were mentioned in the Qur'an and the Sunnah.

Why didn't they just call themselves by a gang name? lol.

But Malcolm X was a really good guy masha Allaah after he came back from hajj:

In accordance with forum rules, we do not engage in sectarian discussions as we are promoting unity. Information on the Nation of Islam can be found here:
