English fluently.

Urdu and Punjabi - bits 'n' pieces, but I know enough to freestyle between languages to make a vaguely coherent sentence such as 'Oh yaar, ki al eh? Pai, apka nam kya hai? Twadi ladoo kanneh? Nahee? Chalou, tik hai.'

And I know a little bit of French and German.

Salaam. You know French better than Bengali!? Lol.

I can speak English, very fluently and comfortably, then it would be Bengali, fluent but with lots of English nouns (I'm sure that's common with a lot of British-born Asians), after that it would be Arabic. I can understand Punjaab and Urdu a bit, but I don't think I could communicate in it. I did French and Welsh in High School, today, I barely remember any of it except something about liking coffee and big pankcakes (hoffi coffi/regarde! une grande crepe!).

Salam Alaikum:

I'm a native english speaker, I know some Russian and I used to know a lot of sign language as my uncles were deaf mute, but from lack of use I've forgotten most of it. :(

I don't have an aptitude for languages so it's very difficult for me to learn. You all speak so many. :muddlehea mashallah :)

Inshallah, one day I will learn to speak arabic.

Wasalam,
Hana

Me Malay and English(not so good). I learnt Mandarin for 1 yr but forgot 90% of it. I cant even recognise the character anymore. how bad. Some chinese office-mate will greet me in Mandarin

the best part is when chinese called my house speaking mandarin, I'll say "wo bu ming bai, wo shi Malairen, wo bu shi huayuren" - I dont understand, I'm a Malay, I'm not a Chinese. and I'll add "Zheli shi Malairen de jia" This is a Malay house. Of course the caller will get confused. Are u sure u don't understand? but u r talking in Mandarin with me.

Would like to know why so many people learnt Somali? What so ggod about it. I know French has become important, but why Somali?

i think that the x is pronounced as a ha im not sure...i was born in somalia but raised in the UK after leaving when the war started...and i was only a baby so i cant remember and at home i speak english mixed with somali...its like when i went to somalia a few years back i came back speaking it fluently after two months....so erm i think i need to go back for longer and learn to write and read it properly to as well as learning to speak it properly....

oh..that explains it...'ha' features a lot in their sentences...i heard that most of the somalis live outside somalia..like the kids i babysat for were born and bred in the US...you ask them what their country is and they'll say 'america' and then i'll be like 'ha ha..no ..you're somali' and they're like 'no..we just speak somali..'...i know lots of baby words..like hoya..ana..cahdee...

My mother tongue is bengali, and that is second to english, can write very little and read basic. Can understand bit of bollywood, but I was more of a hollywood fan (back in my past).
I learnt a bit of spanish at school and few phrases from freind's but can't make a conversation. Now I am interested in learning arabic.

Indonesia, English, Sunda a bit (ethnic language in Indonesia), and InshaAllah Arabic when I hijrah to Mekkah :D

Well the fast way to learn is to participate to the community which involves the language you want to learn. My friend has experienced it (go to other countries), but somehow he forgot the language fast...
