Abu Hamza 'convicted by media'

Muslim cleric Abu Hamza is a victim of "exaggeration, innuendo and fantasy", the Old Bailey was told today.

Opening the case for Mr Hamza's defence against race hate charges, Edward Fitzgerald QC said he was "probably the most frequently abused and ridiculed figure in this country".

Mr Fitzgerald told jurors that they must consider the evidence alone and not the way Mr Hamza had been the victim of "misrepresentation" in the media.

He said some sections of the media "may have convicted him before the trial began", but it was the jury who had heard the evidence.

The QC told the jury they would get a chance to hear Mr Hamza's own evidence when he was called into the witness box.

Mr Hamza denies all charges against him.

The barrister said that the defendant, who has no hands, had been called Captain Hook, Hook, and Hooky in some reports. Some sections of the press had used phrases such as "Hook off hookie", he said.

Mr Fitzgerald also said Mr Hamza had been accused of supporting Saddam Hussein when he had in fact "denounced him as a tyrant".

One of the charges facing Mr Hamza, 47, of west London, relates to the possession of the Encyclopaedia of Afghani Jihad, which the prosecution say is a "manual for terrorism" and includes suggestions for targets including Big Ben.

But Mr Fitzgerald said that there was a single paragraph reference to Big Ben and the Eiffel Tower as potential targets in ten-volume encyclopaedia, and yet one newspaper had run a headline "Hook's Big Ben bomb book".

"That is the kind of exaggeration and misrepresentation by the media. It is ridiculous that because you have one reference in a 5,000-page document in your house you are planning to bomb Big Ben."

Possession of Encyclopaedia Britannica, which may contain a chapter on torture, did not imply the owner was planning to torture, he said. "Beware of this kind of innuendo. Try him on the evidence."

The defence handed jurors copies of the Koran bound in red and gold for use as a reference during the case.

The prosecution played the jury video and audio tapes of Mr Hamza's speeches and sermons and claimed they showed that the cleric "preached hatred" and had urged his followers to "kill non-believers".

Prosecution lawyers closed their case earlier today, telling the court that police officers had seized a total of 181 items in a pre-dawn raid on Mr Hamza's home, including a number of recordings of his speeches.

Mr Hamza faces nine charges under the Offences Against the Person Act 1861, alleging that he solicited others at public meetings to murder Jews and other non-Muslims.

He also faces four charges under the Public Order Act 1986 of "using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with the intention of stirring up racial hatred".

A further charge alleges he was in possession of video and audio recordings that he intended to distribute to stir up racial hatred.

The final charge, under section 58 of the Terrorism Act, accuses him of possession of a document - the Encyclopaedia of the Afghani Jihad - which contained information "of a kind likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism".

Justice. Its always hard to get. Not enough of it and rare as hens teeth.

Money, thats what Hambone Hamza needed, lots of money. He could have bought the courts in England or wherever it was he came afoul of...England I presume. Is he the fat one eyed guy with the hook and the turban, looks just like the sort of man who would be molesting children in a dark hall? That guy?

You have to admit he doesnt look like Prince Charles. And beside you know how the average fish and chips snapper feels about people in Turbans with right hooks for hands or was that right hands for hooks? That guy. The fat one with a glass eye? Yeah him. Sweety face from Mecca.

A prison for the Believers? Man, you got that right. Toss the dog a bone.

What was he doing that the Engliish didnt love him? Stirring up racial hatred was he? Shame, has to be a lie. Everybody knows Allah hates that. Apes and Pigs notwithstanding. Cant tell the apes from the pigs nowadays what with so many apes and pigs slumming it up BIGTIME in Paradise. Got that Greencard Handy there, Achmed. Smile while we go through Customs and hold your head up so they can see we are plain ordinary Muslims looking for a better life in the Infidel Paradise.

It is to Mr. Hamzas credit that he is said to haver denounced Saddam Hussein as a Tyrant. But then everybody who drives a taxi in Amman and Cairo will tell you Saddam was their kind of guy. He stood up to the Infidel tyrants and swore he would obliterate half of Israel, put his money where his mouth was too. Yes money...that and lots of Oil.

Saddam made all the right moves too , BIG moustache, big statues of himself waving a sharp weiner at the Infidels, massive amounts of money spent on Prisons and Tanks and then the American snuck up on him and took it all away from him while he had his back turned and was watering the roses.

And now Saddam is standing in his skivvys folding his pants and looking at the crowbar accomodations. And where is Hambone Hamza....declaring his innocence and DEFYING the Infidel like a true Muj hero. Islam needs more like Hamza. Can you spell Shaheed, boys and girls? Islam marches on and we all have to make sure that this TRAVESTY does not stand. Do you suppose the French will help or are they too busy smelling the burning tires?

Oh, is it true that the only Aircraft Carrier the French has the mighty Marcel Marceau is listing on its side full of Industrial waste off the coast of India who refuse to let it into Bombay port because they are afraid of the pollution? The French were sending the aircraft carrier to assist the US navy with the Tsunami victims...the French are still pluckily headed to the scene of the disaster with their single listing and stinking aircraft carrier loaded wih industrial waste for the Moslems who desperately need it. When was that Tsunami...last year some time?

India wont let the French barge full of crap into any of their ports. The French still sail on and on and on...the French are very brave.

And Abu Hambone should be brave too. Allah will come out of this and we will all be proud we had Faith. Islam will show that a mighty Faith is all that is needed and that mere technology and prior planning will avail the Americans nothing.
