The International Union of Muslim Clergy, headed by the Egyptian prominent Islamic scholar Sheikh Youssuf Al Quardawi, called on the leaders of Norway and Denmark to take action regarding the persistent offence against the Muslim nation and the Prophet (PBUH), or else the group will urge millions of Muslims all over the world to boycott Danish and Norwegian products.

Jyllands-Posten, a Danish newspaper, published September last year a series of drawings by a group of artists of how they believed the holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) looked like.

The 12 cartoons depicting Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) were published in Jyllands-Posten, angering the Muslim world.

In January, the offending drawings were republished by the Norwegian monthly Magazinet. In Iran, the Embassy protested the drawings of the holy Prophet (PBUH), saying they outraged the Muslim Ummah.

The Iranian Embassy issued an official statement saying that the drawings published by the Norwegian newspaper Magazinet undermine human rights and mock all religions, especially Islam and Muslims.

Also, Anne Lene Sandsten, a Norwegian foreign ministry spokesman said that Iranian Diplomats also visited the Norwegian ministry yesterday to protest the drawings.

Worldwide outcry caused by the cartoons included street protest in Kashmir and diplomatic protests.

The Iranian Embassy said in a statement sent to the Norwegian news agency NTB, that it was deeply concerned about the drawings and protested Magazine’s offensive publication of them, QNA reported.
