THE HAGUE, March 30, 2005 (IslamOnline.net & News Agencies) – Dutch police have arrested a 17-year-old man suspected of trying to burn down an Islamic school earlier in the week against a backdrop of a mass rally in Amsterdam protesting rising racism in the country.

The youth was arrested following the attack after he was heard saying he wished the school had burned to the ground, Agence France-Presse (AFP) reported Wednesday, March 30.

During questioning, it became clear that he could be connected to the incident, police said.

Arsonists attacked the Badr Islamic school Sunday, March 27, with Molotov cocktails.

In November last year, the same school had come under an arson attack by three Dutch teenagers. The attack left the building of the Islamic school totally destroyed.

The vandals also daubed swastikas on across the school’s walls.
On Saturday, March 26, another attempted attack was made on a mosque in Oldenzaal in the east of the country.

No to Racism

The swift police action coincided with a mass rally in the capital Amsterdam against the spiraling racist attacks, particularly against Muslims.

The march was organized Monday, March 28, by the “All Different All Equal” forum and brought together MPs and rights activists.

The marchers carried banners reading “Islam is not an enemy,” and “Hatred is not the solution.”

Prominent Dutch-Moroccan politician Mohammad Al-Rabaa seized the rally to hit out at the “racist and double-standard policy” of the right-wing government.

“It is high time we took an action against the repugnant racist acts and hatred among the Dutch,” Abdo Al-Munbhi, the director of the Euro Mediterranean Center for Immigration and Development and one of the rally’s organizers, told IslamOnline.net Tuesday, March 29.

Munbhi, of Moroccan origin, urged the immigrants to stand up and be counted.

“Silence will be interpreted as an opportunity to the xenophobes to press ahead with their policies. Our silence means we are supportive of [Minister of Immigrants Rita] Verdonk’s racist policies.”

The Muslim activist also thanked the Dutch for their solidarity with their fellow Muslim citizens.

“We have drummed up so far the support of some 80 NGOs and political societies over this week,” he said.

“We can’t place all people in one basket and treat all as enemies. There are impartial and moderate Christians and Jews, who rally behind us and reject injustice done to Muslims.”

The murder last November of Dutch filmmaker Theo van Gogh, who had recently made a derogatory film about Islam, triggered a wave of reprisals against the Muslim minority in the Netherlands.

Up to 20 Islamic schools and centers have come under arson and racist attacks since then.

The Netherlands has about 900,000 Muslims out of a population of 16 million.

This is a really interesting piece. The Dutch who had a wake up call with the slaying of the film director by a muslim over his controversial film in which a semi naked women had passages of the Quran written on her. This film was NOT deemed against any Dutch law, yet he was killed as a direct result of his actions.

The youth was arrested following the attack after he was heard saying he wished the school had burned to the ground, Agence France-Presse (AFP) reported Wednesday, March 30.
I am glad you mentioned France, since the increasing integration into "french" is implicated in the acceptance of the French people to hold onto it's "Constitution" which recently indicated that it is now possible that France will reject full membership of the EU, which if one of it's biggest members do not fully commit will throw European integration into disaray, and is very bad news for Chirac who has strongly backed the European union. Guess we are going to find out in 10 weeks time. I think this has a huge implication for islam and it's future within the West.

But that film producer, he had it coming. He started all this racism and trouble in holland. There was no trouble before he made this film, why did he feel the need to take a stab at islam for no reason at all
What part of "Not breaking any Dutch laws" do you not understand Hash, he took a stab at many things hence he was regarded as "Contoversial".

This is my point exactly. It did not matter the fact that he was "Dutch" and governed by dutch law. If the Dutch feel that their rights as a Dutch person is being infringed by some unofficial Islamic law\rule then how can Islam integrate with a Dutch Society!

I have two points of interest.

Why did the article http://www.islamonline.net/English/...article03.shtml not state he was murdered by a Muslim, since this was relevent as a motive behind the killing....

Why have both you & Hash not stated that his death was WRONG!!!!

That is a cop out. Palestinian killings are a seperate issue, we are not discussing the political hotcake of Palestine. We are talking a Dutchmen in Holland, We cannot allow the killing of Irish people due to terrorism, Iraq, Palestine, Darfur, Iran, N.korea, Zimbabwe. We cannot justify all the killings in the world "Acceptable" on the basis that Palestinians and Israilies are killing each other......

We are talking someone who was in his own country who was slaughtered for being percieved as offending islam, when he had broken no laws at the same time exoecting the Dutch to welcome Islam with arms wide open. Your avoiding the issue by trying to use Palestine as Justification.....

okay i think the point i was trying to make is when a person is reporting some news in the media they will be bias depending on what their stance on a issue is. (not in all cases) you can take the ban on fox hunting for example.

The act of one person who was angered and then killed the film director does not represent the rest of the population in the netherlands. it is why as is stated in the original article the muslims are trying hard to integrate and not be ostracised because of the actions of one person.

understand what im say?

No, I would expect the Muslim community to oppose it by non violent means and if you still don't get the film banned. Don't watch it!!!!!!!

Certainly not "kill em" for it.

Agreed. The Mormons have had similar issues by the producers of the "Godmakers II" movie, and virtually no one takes the producers of the movies seriously anymore.

Yes. The first one wasn't so bad, but the second one was absolutely untruthful in every sense of the word. The second one even included accusations of the Mormon leaders being gay child molestors! But, because of the way the Mormons handled it - which led to protestants realizing how sickingly wrong the movie was, it never became popular.

The following link, which is from a well-known couple that has been refuting Mormonism for decades, explains some of the problems with the film:

Hash, I completely agree with you. But it is entirely another thing to accuse Mormons of things they would never even contemplate.

To get the facts straight;

The man who was killed by a moslim extremist, was Theo Van Gogh, he was the director of a movie called SUBMISSION, it isn't really a movie, it's kind of clip of 15 minutes. In this movie are women shown with arabic writings from the Qoraan on their naked body, the reason this movie was made by Theo Van Gogh and Ayaan Hirsi Ali (a former moslima) was to show that moslima's are being oppressed by their husbands, brothers and so on.
This movie brought a lot of anger into the moslim society, which led to the killing of the director of the movie, but other reasons were in the columns Theo Van Gogh wrote, in which he said, The Prophet Mohammed (saw) being perverse and a pedofile. Ayaan Hirsi Ali a politica in Holland said 'The Islaam is a retarded religion'
This all led to the hatred of moslims in Holland, and hatred toward Ayaan Hirsi Ali and Theo Van Gogh. (also known as the two clowns of Holland)

Does anyone want to see the movie?

Well, actually, there are a lot of women who are being abused, they think it has to do with the fact that 90% of women who are abused, are moslim.

They see a link towards the islaam, which is wrong.

This is a percentage of moslim women in Holland in shelters.

And 90% of the women in shelters are Moslim,
I did not make this up, it's a fact!

btw; you could also react a bit normal, and don't feel attacked.
