it's not about quantity, but quality. be selective in choosing your friends.

Islam does not teach people to hide in the corner of your room and do Ib'aadah 24/7. You should go out make friends, interact with people, do Dawah etc. If people around you are committing sins that doesn't mean you cut the connection with them, you should be able to differentiate between what is right and wrong, and pray to Allah and then you will never be misguided. Insha'allah.

The Prophet (saw) "It is better to sit alone than in company with the bad; and it is better still to sit with the good than alone. It is better to speak to a seeker of knowledge than to remain silent; but silence is better than idle words." (Bukhari)

The Prophet (saw) said "He who believes in one God and the Hereafter, let him speak what is good or remain silent."

Remember wise words of snakelegs...Think Quality friends not quantity. Usually those with a lot of friends have some of the worst friends imaginable.

I advise the middle ground. Socialise, but don't over do it, you need time to yourself too.

Islam does not require us to cut ourselves off from others (it can even lead to sin).

If you stick to them you cant go wrong.

Remember Hayah, stay away from Zina and you have nothing to fear.

Choose your friends wisely, brother.

Remember that hadith:
“A person is likely to follow the faith of his friend, so look whom you befriend.”
EDIT: Also check this out: Islam and the Concept of Friendship

Backbiting is like eating the flesh of ur brothers and sisters. Would you like to do that? No? Then try not to backbite Inshaa Allaah.

Always remember - a person is judged by the company he or she keeps.

Have as many or few friends as you like, but make sure they're all good people.

I totally agree, there is nothing wrong with socialising as long as you do it the halal way. Dont go to exterme though because part of islam is to spread dawah and to good in this life. So if you isolate your self from a community then you are not doing any good for yourself. However never forget allah, therefore every step you take in life remember Allah and he will guide you.
