As Salaam Alaykum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuhu

Have they not travelled in the land and seen what was the end of those who were before them? They were superior to them in strength, and in the traces (which they left) in the land. But Allah seized them with punishment for their sins. And none had they to protect them from Allah. [Al-Ghafir 40:21]

I'm fascinated by dinosaurs. They were huge, powerful beasts that ruled the ancient world and their sudden extinction continues to be a mystery.

But why did Allah create the dinosaurs? They were apparently destroyed before humans existed on earth. What's the wisdom behind their creation? As I ponder upon the question, this verse comes to mind:

{Have they not travelled in the land and seen what was the end of those who were before them? They were superior to them in strength, and in the traces (which they left) in the land. But Allah seized them with punishment for their sins. And none had they to protect them from Allah.}

The dinosaurs were far superior to us in size and strength. Their traces are found to this day in the form of massive fossilized bones, footprints, and eggs.

Yet despite their strength, and despite the fact that they ruled the world for millions of years, they were completely destroyed all of a sudden, helpless before the decree of their Lord. Such is the power of Allah. Is it not reason to fear and obey?

Some dinosaurs were bigger and stronger than humans.

As per their extinction, it was a combo of a meteor colliding with the Earth, Continental drift introducing new diseases, and competition. Still, some managed to survive and evolved into birds.

I also dont understand the quote you put in. I though animals couldnt commit sins.

@Isambard

You are right animals don't go to heaven or hell fire, they don't have good deeds and bad deeds in their account that determine their end result in the after life. However, they will be questioned for their deeds as well, let us say there are two male goats. One male goat have his horns torn off and another male goat have his horn intact, and the male goat with the horn knowingly attacks the crippled male goat for bullying or control etc. During the day of judgment the animals will get their rights and ones their rights are completed they will turn into dust. Only human beings are going to be in either eternal hell fire (only reason to be in eternal hell fire if you are not Muslim or you committee murder to a Muslim person unjustly or you leave the fold of Islam, etc) or head to eternal heaven.

Now for these majestic creatures, their time on this earth is over. Human beings cannot live with these creatures...we will not be here now if the dinasours still roamed the earth. Allah (SWT) made space for human to strive here, otherwise we human being be extinct before we even began.
