Assalamu Alaikum

I bought this strawberry jam recently and i found that it contained something called "Hydrogel 405"? Any idea what that is? Is it synthetic? IS IT HALAL???

I cannot find any info. on this ingredient on the internet. The best you can do is contact the manufacturer and they will tell you exactly what it is. Good luck.

Alternatively, buy jam that states it is suitable for vegetarians.

I found something on the hydrogel 405. It is actually a gelling agent and is propylene glycol alginate with additive code 405. Look up the following:

I got it when I google gelling agent additive.

Looks like the traditionsl origin is kelp or algae but I couldn't find anything on the current supplier and their origin of the current hydrogel 405.
