:sl:

I am planning to move out the UK in the near future, my destination is USA. However I want to finish my degree here in the UK, and then possible find a job and live in the US.

The reason why i want to leave the UK is because of the weather mainly! I don't know about you guys but I think i am allergic to the cold weather:), I lived in holland before and it was even worse! The lack of sun is making me depressed.

So i wanted to ask you guys some general questions, about places in the USA which have nice weather (all year round) so no snow! I love the rain alot but only when its warm. I have an aunty living in Dallas texas, and one living in Virginia I think thats somewhere in washington. Living next to them would be a great benefit:), not next to viriginia though heard the weather can be mean there!:okay:, for some strange reason i fancy texas, i love all the desert hype, all the rattlesnakes! I have looked at Laredo, but I think that would be a bit to extreme!

Also like to add that I love areas with lakes, alot of trees, flowers etc...

thanks:)

I think it would be best to visit America and get an idea yourself of areas that you might like. I have only travelled in America, though i absolutely loved Virginia and could see myself living there. I'm not too sure about Texas, I know the east is more green than the west, but it seemed a bit too flat and sparse for my tastes when I travelled through it. Though I'm sure there will soon be texans coming on to correct my assumptions.

I also liked New England...though of course, like Old England the weather can get a bit :? and its even colder in the winter.

Though remember, the immigration system to get into America is pretty hard, you'd need to get a company to sponser you.

Wow thats amazing! I used to have a red rat snake, very nice animals, but it grew to big so it had to leave!

What kind of species you have?

a yellow rat (rat snakes are my favourites), a trans-pecos rat, a rosy boa, a gopher, a glossy, a columbian rainbow boa, and 2 ball pythons. i also have 2 shovel noses, which i don't usually count in my snake list for the simple reason that they have a different diet, namely insects.
when i used to breed them, i bred mostly rat snakes. snake breeding these days has become all about money and producing freaks, such as albinos. :unhappy:
texas is blessed with both eastern species and western species.

wa'alaikuma s'salaam,

USA is a beautiful land with plenty of every type of weather or season you like. There's good and bad in every land as well as up and downs. It's important you find out everything first and get the bigger picture before making any long term plans.

Virginia is a nothern state so expect lot of snow there. Texas is in central usa and is pretty good place overall. As for where in tx, that depends on what you are looking for. If you go south, close to houston, then you'll be close to the gulf but it also is very humid and hot and yucky. If you go to dallas then you'll face some hailing in the winter time. If you are serious about TX then i would recommend Austin. It is in the center, is the capital and has the best it can offer. Any twisters, hurricanes or what not that comes from the gulf ends up hitting houston and any snowery weather or cold fronts coming from north ends up hitting dallas so you're in a pretty safe place. austin also has the main branch of Univ. of Texas, which like among the top 10 public universities. So it'll be easier to do masters or anything other degree while being here. Also, austin has the best job market from all of tx, most of the IT companies that ran away from california (due to energy crises) settled down in austin.

But you are a Muslim, so you should take that into consideration as well. It is nice here but only so so compared to b4 and it may go further down hill. I think canada is more Muslim friendly nation then usa and so is australia. But it's your choice so inshalalh do lot of research and do go and check it out for a week or two or maybe a month and then decide if it is for you.

Florida is nice but too congested. Most people from northern states (especially OHIO) go down to FL after retirement. Then you have college students who head down there as well for spring and winter breaks. Too many people living there, i think humid weather and lots of hurricanes every year. Also, cost of living and especially housing is crazy expensive.

I would just love to live in Miami!! Thats just like in a dream! I have never seen it would love 2, but i think its soooo populated since alot of tourist visit it, so it would be quite expensive to live there:(

One day if i be making millions den inshAllah i would live there :D

Miami weather

Miami Weather - Perfect winter sunshine destination
It is little wonder Florida weather has made Miami a favourite city for retirement as well as British holidaymakers. The weather in Miami is typical of the subtropical climate enjoyed throughout Florida: a veritable paradise for winter sun seekers. The Florida climate is sunny all year round. The best time to visit Miami Beach is between December and May, when average temperatures in Miami are in the comfortable low-to-mid 20ºs. Miami winter weather enjoys endlessly blue skies and long days of bright sunshine. Winter evenings are perfect for enjoying Miami's beach promenades and outdoor nightlife, with temperatures around 18ºC. Winter weather in Miami is idyllic, and this is when the vast majority of tourists arrive from Europe. Miami winters are deliciously warm without being too hot, and the sunshine is almost constant. Make sure you use adequate protection against the strong Miami sun.

Miami Weather - Subtropical summers
Another important factor with Miami weather is the rainy season, which peaks in June and continues into the autumn. However, rain tends to fall in heavy downpours and there is still plenty of sunshine. The hot summer weather in Miami is tempered to some extent by the city's cooling sea breezes, but humidity is high, and average high temperatures hit 30º or more. Miami summers are noted for their heavy afternoon thunderstorms. You may need an umbrella and rain gear for surprise storms. Temperatures, and more importantly rainfall, only really begin to drop significantly towards the end of autumn. November is an unfashionable month for travel but combines good weather with minimum crowds. December is the driest month in Miami, with little notable increase in rainfall until May.

I consider this as the PERFECT weather! Winters not cold, but very nice weather in the twenties degrees. Summers are amazing! Sunny humid, and alot of rain! What more can you ask for:D:D?

Texas is like visiting 5 different countries, each area has a distinct weather and geographical make up and ethnic groups. The Dallas area is just north of the hill country and west of the piney woods area. it is at the begining of the plains land and is mostly flat land. There are some very nice lakes nearby, Richland-Chambers and Lake Texoma are excellent for water sports and fishing.

Air sports are also popular, like hang gliding and sky diving. Dallas is very metropoliton. The Dallas Zoo is very large and quite impressive. The Dallas Aquarium has a very nice display of fresh water and salt water fish. But, it is a large city with very fast drivers and roads, many one way streets and easy to miss turns in. A missed turn can easily put you 50KM away from your destination before you find a place to turn around. The public transportation system is great DART serves most of dallas the trains are usually only a few minutes apart and serve all of Dallas, single trip, daily passes and monthly passes are available. For most visitors the daily pass is the best buy.

Nearby attractions within an hour driving time are the oil fields of Kilgore, the state forests, the Amish Community near Ardmore, Oklahoma. Plus numerous smaller lakes beside the 2 big ones I mentioned.

Virginia is a beautiful state, I love the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Luray Caverns. The Shenadoah National park and the Skyline Drive are worth visiting for some beautiful scenery views. But Virginia is a large state With consderable different climate in the north and south.

Virginia - Location, size, and extent

Situated on the eastern seaboard of the US, Virginia is the 4th largest of the South Atlantic states and ranks 36th in size among the 50 states.

The total area of Virginia is 40,767 sq mi (105,586 sq km), of which land occupies 39,704 sq mi (102,833 sq km) and inland water 1,063 sq mi (2,753 sq km). Virginia extends approximately 440 mi (710 km) E-W, but the maximum point-to-point distance from the state's noncontiguous Eastern Shore to the western extremity is 470 mi (756 km). The maximum N-S extension is about 200 mi (320 km).

Virginia is bordered on the NW by West Virginia; on the NE by Maryland and the District of Columbia (with the line passing through the Potomac River and Chesapeake Bay); on the E by the Atlantic Ocean; on the S by North Carolina and Tennessee; and on the W by Kentucky. The state's geographic center is in Buckingham County, 5 mi (8 km) SW of the town of Buckingham.

Virginia's offshore islands in the Atlantic include Chincoteague, Wallops, Cedar, Parramore, Hog, Cobb, and Smith. The boundaries of Virginia, including the Eastern Shore at the tip of the Delmarva Peninsula, total 1,356 mi (2,182 km), of which 112 mi (180 km) is general coastline; the tidal shoreline extends 3,315 mi (5,335 km).

But for me Texas is the Place.

Specifiacaly the Dallas area:

To give you some idea of the size of things in Texas, The Dallas-Fort Worth Airport (DFW) is larger than the entire country of Bermuda.

Things to do and see in Austin, Texas (250 miles south of Dallas)

Lady Bird Lake (formerly known as Town Lake) is in the city of Austin, Texas. Lady Bird Lake runs just north of Riverside Drive near the downtown area of Austin. Interstate I-35 goes over Lady Bird Lake as you are driving through Austin.

Lady Bird Lake is 6 miles long and from 400 feet to 2,500 feet wide at it widest point and has an average depth of 14 feet. Lady Bird Lake is just downstream from Lake Austin on the Colorado River.

Lady Bird Lake is a placid lake and is a constant level lake, ideal for canoeing. Swimming, motorized boats and jet skis are not allowed in Lady Bird Lake.

I live in Virginia and you will not like the unpredictable weather here. The good thing here is you will get all the seasons here, the extremes, and the in-betweens. You will get the rain, sleet, and snow (sometimes). But nothing beats San Diego, CA weather. When I visited that place it was excellent weather everyday. Every time I mention that I am moving there people tell me the same thing "they have good weather." The commute and living expenses in northern VA is CRAZY. Then again san diego living expenses is not all that great either, excellent weather!! Excellent Muslim community as well. WHat is your area of study/expertise?

Heh, its interesting how some people define 'good weather' as being warm and sunny every day, while to others 'good weather' is all about the variation. I don't think I could live in an area that was summery all year round - I need a cold winter, a fresh spring, and a bitter autumn. In fact, I think I have reverse SAD (Seasonal Affected Disorcer) - I much prefer the cold months to the warm months!

Maybe it was because I went to America in the height of summer, but I really couldn't imagine how anyone could live in that heat. (And yes, I know there are much warmer countries than the US!)

If I was going to move to another country, I'd probably move to a colder region - Scandanavia looks lovely. But I think the UK has a great climate.

Hello. I used to live in Florida so yeah you get a lot of sunshine but you get like 95% humidity all year round. Everyone has central air because you would die without it.

I know the reason why everyone likes a dry heat!

Though if you like rain the thunderstorms are fantastic with hard rain and booming thunder (though the hurricanes can be a pain).

Virginia can get cold and you will see some snow in winter.

Try southern California.

[sorry didn't see your earlier response. If the humidity is no problem then florida is for you!]

Well I've never been to America or researched the weather properly, but I'd just like to inform you to choose wisely. You wouldn't want to pick say, Texas and then 2 months later; "Argh, I wish I picked Miami." I mean ofcourse you could move to Miami from Texas if you didn't like it but it takes a while to settle into places I guess.

Good luck!

lol bro virginia is not IN washington, but nvm, yeh texas is, eh, i dunno never been there but it sounds too cowboylike for me, u , maybe, but i live in ohio so right now its cold...well its supposed to be cold but its hot, it snows in april, strange....its supposed to be spring when ppl go places but everyone is dead i think.
i say CALI! california is tiiight, never snows, florida is toooooo hot, like when its like an island too many hurricanes and stuff, but its nice, im sure, its like too many bugs, like mosqitoes and stuff, so it'll annoy u.
Detroit, Michigan is the best tho, i actually been there since all my relatives are there, its soooooooooooooooo cool, but it does have winter and stuff, heres how my brother does. in the summer he stays here in ohio then in winter he goes to yemen and gets an early summer lol, he is 16 turning 17 and goes in the plane alone, he's done it twice, and its mostly my parents choice but he agrees.
Brooklyn and NYC, new york are tiight too. verry good...

BTW U MUST VISIT NIAGRA FALLS! i luv it at night, i only been there once when we went on vacation to new york then canada, but u can go from washington dc too. I had a field trip for school to washington dc earlier this month and they went to the white house and all that and then to niagra falls, but i didnt go coz the white house is horrible.

Also to earn $$ buy a gas station with someone and u will get rich...or get a real job..lol.since u go to college u can get good jobs .

Ur welcome.

Also juss sayin before u do something... don't rely on cops or fire fighters... they r liars. Like there is a house on fire and burns and people die and someone calls the cops and firefighters and 1. they put them on hold and 2. then they never end up coming, they were on like lunch break or something...Yes they do get paid. Sad isn't it
And they don't even get cats out of trees anymore. There is a cat outside my house right now dying coz of them. :(

AAND cops, u call 911 while being chased by a robber kidnapper rapist murderer and they put u on hold (as if u have time ) and ask u too many things till its too late. That way they can say "Oops, too late!"

hehe seriously. most of these were on the news. stuff like this.
or like a bus driver leaving a bus full of lil kids outside a gas station with the keys in it and leaving...that bus crashed!

but there are alot of good things here, like..um...food, yeh the food is great! ...and um. rich, they r rich here, nice stuff, too bad all the good stuff made in china lol they got the brains.

u should travel before bush leaves, see the difference there will be! lol

lol ur going to america and im going to yemen. hehe

u should visit california though. its nice and hot and not much bugs. in certain places. and it doesn't snow. really nice.

okay,, first hand.. only cause no one hears the good stuff on the news ;) I have called 911 various times (okay, nothing was wrong except for that one fire I created in the kitchen) and all the times I've called, never been put on hold and each time the cops, ambulance AND fire truck were all there within 5 minutes tops!!! It doesn't matter the problem, they always send all three vehicles when you call or when your alarm goes off in the house it will call them for you if you have it set that way. So within the Dallas area, no probs like that. Not that I've come across anyways.. lol

But yeah... there are some bad cops and such here and there.. they are everywhere tho, sadly.. and then you got them people pretending to be cops pulling over women and giving problems... They gotta be done away with for sure.

Ohio is facing brain drainage. All the companies went up and left so there is no economy in Ohio. And people get their education and move out of state to get jobs. So yea ohio is the worst state to be in.

Florida gets too many hurricanes and just isn't safe plus too much humidity there kills ya.

Cali is too expensive, you have to give arm and a leg to live there. It is prone to earthquakes a lot and a 20minute drive will take you 1.5hrs to get anywhere cuz of the traffic.

that's why i like it here in Portland. in summer it CAN get hot but the tops we had was 103 degrees that was last summer and we even get rain in the summer
but in winter we usually get at most 6 feet around January or Febuary
Texas is HOOOOOt man. i dont know how people there stand the heat.

Has society gone stupid over in the USA too or is this new age of true ignorance just confined to the UK?

Gas Stations: my advice..... DON'T! They are far more dangerous than most jobs in america!... Seriously!.. I know a sister who got married two years ago... She came here from Pakistan to live with her husband and they have many gas stations.. So one night she was working and a man came in and shot her... right through the jaw, through the neck, the spine... uff...

So I visited her about 6mos back.. they had her on 60% oxygen and docs were telling her that she would not live..etc.... Alhamdulilah.. with the power of dua, she can now breathe on her own but she still cannnot feel anything from neck down. I saw her about 3wks ago. Alhamdulilah she is able to eat and drink now as well and has always had a smiling face and lots of faith in Allah. She is amazing person ,... plz keep her in ur dua'as..

and back to the main point... don't do the gas station scene!

hii guys heres my intro call me a nerd, call me a dork, call me a scaredy cat-- I DONT CARE. I have been lucky my whole life and recently had an unfortunate change of events.

I had a husband, nice car, beautiful home, even my own pet Koala. Approximately 4 months ago my life went down hill and I lost everything. My husband ran away with his teaching assistant, we had a prenumptual and I am caring and trusted him and he left with it all, even my own business was in his name. He even took my Koala.

I think my luck is gone I even took a quiz online and it told me that I was going to die a failure :-(

I think my luck has run out. I decided to join this forum because Ryan a member here showed it to me while I was at his house (Hi ryan!) and said you'd all help keep me sane.

Im going to not leave my house for as many months as I can to dodge anymore unfortunate events. There's so much more to this story I dont know where to start. Let me know what that quiz says too if you are going to die successful or not. Start asking questions Ill start answering.
