ISLAMABAD, Jun 15 (APP): Quality education can only guarantee a nation’s ascent to glory in this globalized world and the Muslim renaissance in the 21st century can only be effected through education.

This was stated by Chairman Senate Mohammedmian Soomro on Sunday while addressing the 1st Graduation Ceremony of the Women Institute of Science and Humanities (WISH) here at the auditorium of International Islamic University.

He said that due to intense competition, the threshold is constantly rising.

He said everyday hundreds and thousands of new discoveries and inventions are being made, and there is a need to focus on the research as one has to update knowledge to keep pace with rest of the nations.

Mohammedmian Soomro reminded that the Muslims used to be the pioneers of sciences particularly Algebra, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Astronomy and Numerology etc.

He said they were the acknowledged masters of these sciences till middle-ages. However, they lost touch with reality in the later period and consequently also lost their pre-eminence in knowledge and education.

Hence, there is a need to revive the Muslim tradition of learning and educational renaissance is imperative for today.

The Holy Prophet of Islam (Peace be upon him) enjoined his followers to seek knowledge from cradle to grave. The very first words of “Wahi” (Revelation) began with ‘Iqra’ (meaning to read) and this shows how much important is for Muslims to seek and acquire knowledge, he added.

Similarly, he said, the Father of the Nation Quaid-i-Azam emphasized the need for quality education especially for females to enable them join the mainstream of national life.

It is encouraging to note that a lot many highly qualified women are seen around in various fields. However, in a country of 160 million, he said, this number ought to be increased further as women are one half of the country’s total population.

The Chairman Senate felicitated the graduating students and urged them to prepare themselves for shouldering their onerous responsibilities in future. “Enter the practical life with resolve to serve this country and the nation”, he advised.

Earlier, Prof. Dr. Tayyab Gulzar Khan, President WISH, in his welcome address said that the institute made a humble beginning in 2003 with modest faculties of Arts & Sciences.

He said that it is affiliated with Ripah University and 184 of its students are graduating today.

The basic objective behind establishing WISH, he said, is to impart structured education to women with focus on research. He said that the institute is soon going to establish a dental college in UAE also. He said the mission is to educate and empower women through integrated and well-balanced education with excellence.

Later, the Chairman Senate awarded degrees to the graduating students and medals to the ones who excelled in studies. The Chairperson of Senate Standing committee on Women Development, Senator Tahira Latif also attended the function.
