Fear of Allah

What is a sin? Sin is simply disobeying the Master, the Creator.
Given a thought, except we humans and the jinn (known as it is mentioned in the Qur’aan) no one even gets the thought of disobeying the Master. The sun how gigantic it is; monotonously is covering the distance at the speed set by HIS master. Do we hear anything like, I will not rise today, No it does not has power to do so. Do we hear the moon saying I am so bright, why I should come only in the night? The earth, the vastness, the depths of the oceans, quietly it takes the dead that we burry. It takes the filth that we create. The oceans carry all the dirt that we throw into it. We never heard a word like, don’t throw that in me. The animals, ruthlessly do we behave, we don’t even hear a word from them.
Now comparing ourselves, with the gigantic sea, and imagine that one is alone, won’t we feel scared, imagine placed on a piece of land , alone , to the right there is no one, to the left there is no one, wont we feel scared. What is our comparison in front of the sun? May be a direct ray might kill us. That’s what we are. Now The big question.
When all these massive objects don’t dare to disobey their LORD from where do we get power to disobey our LORD?
The answer is our ignorance. We were born and the raised by our parents, nourished by them. Here we stand with full of power as if ,we are the controllers of our hands and limbs and can do just what comes in our head. Little do we realize that we are to stand in front of HIM? To HIM is our final return. He gave us life and will make us die and will raise us again. Then we would be standing in between His hands answering what we did. A word we don’t utter is recorded by the angels. The only thing is our ignorance as if nothing is going to happen. Or we don’t see the results in front of us. The azaab of khabar is witnessed by every creature except us Humans. Else we would have stopped burying the deceased as stated by our beloved Prophet (sallalaho alaihi wassalam). As Allah Subhana wa Tallah said, that simply cuts the heart; these are amongst the first verses revealed to our beloved Prophet (sallalaho alaihi wassalam).

6. Nay, but man doth transgress all bounds,
7. In that He looketh upon Himself As self-sufficient.
8. Verily, to Thy Lord is the return (of all)

How true it is, and how plainly these verses describe the human nature. Allah Tallah gave us tongue the power to speak, how utterly careless are we to use as if a open sword in a child’s hand or a person without knowledge , the result can be imagined. Allah Tallah gave us ears, limbs and life for nothing but to worship HIM. The one whose heart tastes the sweetness of HIS worship it will never be immersed in any of the worldly matters
We would behave like stones, but when at the moment we are near to death, then wonder why we can’t obey HIM till death approaches us. How simply we do catch an ant and kill it when it bites us, or mosquito or a fly when they irritate us; that’s it; it’s that simple for ALLAH TALLAH to gasp our soul.
Out of HIS mercy HE does not withdraw HIS blessings (our eyes, our hands, and our life before the appointed term) from us. We don’t understand this truth till we blindly follow our ignorance and are hitted by an obstacle. And unfortunately if not, then the death is the only thing that opens our eyes but lo! The time has gone; it will never ever come back.

Al-Hasan Al-Basri said,

“Every day the sun raises it calls upon us, “Oh people! I am a new day; I am an observer of your actions. Take advantage of me for I will not return until the Day of Judgment.” “Oh, son of Adam you are nothing but a few breaths. Once one breath goes out, part of you goes with it. In the same way that part of you has gone, soon all of you will go.”

People alive should consider them as lucky as they can be; when their souls will be gasped none knows. With the Tafseer of Sura Al Asr:

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَـنِ الرَّحِيمِ

وَالْعَصْرِ

1. by (the Token of) time (through the ages), (Yusuf Ali)

Allah Tallah swears by the time. This time from the time the creation was born. Time which has seen the destruction of people (group), as a result of disobedience to ALLAH TALLAH. Hence we should not think that ALLAH TALLAH will spare us simply for no reason. He is the best of judges and the most merciful.

2. Verily man is In loss,

It clearly states that man is in loss – the hell, the final abode of many.
The example of a life is like – in a hot afternoon in a desert –we are the sellers of the ice. Will we try to sell the ice as quickly as we will look at it and start adoring,”Oh how beautiful ice I have”. (thinking about the future). Or keep on thinking, how we sold out and be happy for it (thinking about the good deeds that we did) or simply sit. Obviously we would try to sell it as soon as possible giving loud shouts and trying the best that the ice gets sold as quickly as possible.
Shouldn’t we sell our lives and collect our good deeds as much as possible. Call upon Allah so that he forgives us and accepts our deeds. Walk upon the Sunnah and free ourselves from the Hellfire as stated in the next verse. (taken from a tafseer class)

3. except such As have Faith, and do righteous deeds, and (join together) In the mutual teaching of truth, and of patience and constancy.

The ones saved are the ones who do the righteous deeds (the Sunnah) and enjoin together help each other in being patient, consistent in all affairs.

The point here is a good heart. If you realize that you have disobeyed HIM by sinning, and then replace it with a good deed. The point is to realize it in our heart that we have disobeyed our Allah Subhana wa Tallah, and ask HIS forgiveness. He is the most merciful. This statement is just not a statement but a real truth. “He is the most merciful”

Al-Awzâ'î wrote to one of his brothers,

"As to what follows: You have been encompassed from every side. Know that you are moving forward with each day and night. So beware of Allâh and of the standing between His hands. And your final promise will be with Him. Was-Salâm

What all you do, what all you speak, everything has to be questioned.

36. And follow not that of which you have no knowledge. Verily, the hearing, and the sight, and the heart of each of those ones will be questioned (by Allah).) (Surah Al Israa: Tafseer Ibn Katheer)

Giving a thought in our daily lives we become so busy and How much do we take Him for granted, what all we speak about HIM in ignorance, How much do we disobey HIM in our ignorance?

How many times we must have questioned HIM unknowingly, ‘that is an ugly day (astagfirullah) unlucky for me, and cursing time is cursing HIM. Celebrating the April Fools day in our ignorance. How easily do we say why did it not rain? Why did it rain heavily? How easily do we forget that He is the creator not we (astagfirullah).

To Allah belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is on the earth, and whether you disclose what is in yourselves or conceal it, Allah will call you to account for it. Then He forgives whom He wills and punishes whom He wills. And Allah is able to do all things)

Hence it is not just the actions that we do but also the malice that we store inside us. How much do we hate, and our jealous of somebody or the other or in our pride just crossed all the levels. The thing is nothing is hidden from HIM. He is the owner of everything. Not even a leaf falls and He is aware of that and hence what all we burry in our hearts.

1. Al-Hakim reports in al-Mustadrak, "God will suffice he, who makes his worry in life one; and he, who is branched by worries, God will not care in whichever valley of life he perishes".

2. Bilâl b. Sa’d – Allah have mercy on him – said:
Do not think about how small the sin is, but think about who you have just disobeyed. Ibn Al-Mubârak, Al-Zuhd wa Al-Raqâ`iq Vol.1 p150

(To Allah belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is on the earth, and whether you disclose what is in yourselves or conceal it, Allah will call you to account for it. Then He forgives whom He wills and punishes whom He wills. And Allah is able to do all things)

When HE knows what we conceal in our hearts , and the uglier part of our conscience , the thoughts that are concealed in the depths of our heart ,and would be called for account just imagine the effects of the actions of the limbs and tongue .

"O son of Aadam! Fear Allaah, and let two things not happen to you at the same time: the hardships and agony of death, plus sorrow and regret. Beware of agonies and regrets, for death will come to you suddenly and no one can describe to you what you will face and see. Beware, so as not to die while in a state of disobedience, otherwise you will meet Allaah with no excuse."

- Al Hasan

The following paragraph by Ibn Al Qayyim gives us the actual way of living our life.

Your life in the present moment is in between the past and the future. So what has preceded can be rectified by tawbah (repentance), nadam (regret) and istighfar (seeking Allah’s forgiveness). And this is something that will neither tire you, nor cause you to toil as you would with strenuous Labour. Rather it is an action of the heart. Then as regards the future (then it can be corrected) by withholding yourself from sins. And this abandonment is merely the leaving of something and to be at ease from it. This also is not action of the limbs, which requires you to strive and toil. Rather this is a firm resolve and intention of the heart – which will give rest to your body, heart and thoughts. So as for what has preceded, then you rectify it with repentance. And as for the future – then you rectify it with firm resolve and intention. Neither of these involves any hardship or exertion of the limbs. But then your attention must be directed to your life in the present - the time between two times. If you waste it, then you have wasted the opportunity to be of the fortunate and saved ones. If you look after it, having rectified the two times – what is before and after it, as we have said – then you will be successful and achieve rest, delight and ever-lasting bliss. However, looking after it is harder than that which comes before and after it, since guarding it involves keeping to that which is most befitting and beneficial for your soul, and that which will bring it success and well-being.

[Imam Ibn ul Qayyim al Jawziyyah - al-Fawaa’id, pp 151-152]

Finally the great words of the scholar

When you fear the creation, you feel repelled by it and run away from it, but when you fear the Creator, you feel close to Him and run towards Him

Doubt 1:

If a doubt in the mind (created by Shaytan) would be that, the earth, the sun, the moon are all inanimate and what ever is inanimate should not bother us. Look down to this Hadith,

Al-Hasan al-Basree on the authority of Anas Ibn Malek is the following. He said: "The Messenger of God peace be upon him used to give the Friday sermon while standing near a piece of wood against which he would lean his back. When the number of people increased in the mosque he said: Make a pulpit of two steps for me, which they did. When the Prophet stood up to give the sermon on Friday the said piece of wood moaned as if it expressed its feeling of missing the Messenger of God peace be upon him. Anas comments: I was in the mosque and heard the piece moan. It continued to moan until the Prophet descended to it and embraced it. Then it was silent. As a matter of fact, whenever al-Hasan narrated this tradition he would cry and say: O slaves of God! A piece of wood misses the Messenger of God! It is you who should do so.”

When a piece of wood feels so, imagine the power the sun, the earth, the moon have in them and how obediently do they follow their LORD.
