LONDON (Reuters) - A right-wing extremist who wanted to "secure a future for white children" and kept explosives at his Yorkshire flat was convicted on terrorism charges on Tuesday.

Martyn Gilleard, 31, from Goole in East Yorkshire, was found guilty at Leeds Crown Court of the preparation of terrorist acts and of collecting information useful for an act of terrorism.

He had pleaded guilty at earlier hearings to possessing live ammunition and 39,000 indecent images of children.

Police conducting a child pornography raid last October had discovered racist literature, home-made bombs, knives and a rifle at Gilleard's flat.

Among the material seized were membership cards for the National Front, British People's Party and the White Nationalist Party.

In a handwritten speech also found, Gilleard wrote of "our duty as white British nationalists to reclaim our nation."

"I am so sick and tired of hearing nationalists talk of killing Muslims, of blowing up mosques, of fighting back, only to see these acts of resistance fail to appear," he had written.

"The time has come to stop the talk and start to act."

On a separate scrap of paper illustrated with a Nazi flag he had written: "We must secure the existence of our race and a future for white children, for race and nation."

Gilleard, who has a young child by a former girlfriend, worked as a fork-lift driver at a timber yard.

Officers who visited the yard before arresting him last November found Gilleard's high-visibility jacket marked with a hand-drawn swastika.

Police said Gilleard was an extremely dangerous individual.

"Not only has he openly expressed extreme far-right views and a desire to act on them, he also had the capability to do so," said Detective Chief Superintendent John Parkinson, head of the Leeds Counter Terrorism Unit.

"Gilleard had access to weapons and more frighteningly, explosives. He had even gone as far as to create small, hand-held bombs.

"We can only assume that his intention was to use them and we are thankful we were able to intervene before he had an opportunity to do so."

He will be sentenced later this week.

Secure "a future for white children" with knives, live ammo and 39,000 indecent images of kids. I think someone needs to re-read the "Nazism for Dummies" book.

If he had been an Islamist terrorist then this would have been big news...

Brother - it is destructive enough for the media to churn out hateful oxmorons like 'Islamist terrorists" but for the Muslims to do it to is too much. Unless, and I am giving you the benefit of brotherly excuse, you meant it in a sarcastic tone?...

ISLAM = PEACE
TERRORISM = NO PEACE

The two don't ever go together. However, I'm pretty sure NONE of the reports on the guy above mention if he is a Christian, Jew, Atheist etc. So one-sided - no wonder its the world's fastest growing religion...

Perhaps because religion had nothing to do with his motivation.

Islamist does not equal Islamic. Islamist refers to any political movement involving making Islamic Shariah the Law of the country. An Islamist terrorist is a terrorist that uses Islamism as their motive for committing atrocities.
It's the same as eco-terrorism. Environmentalism isn't a bad thing, but plotting to destroy the Thames barrier and flood London is.

Despite the fact that it is all over the place, it is not as big as something like the plane plot arrests and the messed-up raids on Forest Gate. People's opinion about the current event will probably be 'oh, this is bad, but there are crazies in every society and we can't do anything about them', but when Muslims are involved in a plot, it becomes a world-wide spectacle which takes months to die down. I bet in a few days nobody will even care about this story.

Perhaps nobody will "remember" the story because nobody died. It is the same case with Muslim terror suspects. When nobody dies people tend to forget about it. I would agree that Muslim terrorists get more coverage, but that isn't exactly strange given current events in the world. Islamist terrorism isn't exactly an isolated event, it is a worldwide phenomenon.

Mmm perhaps. Or it could be that the broadcasters will never again mention it cus it won't sell papers -'Right-wing extremist guilty of terrorism charges' doesn't have the same ring to it as 'islamic terrorist attacks' :p.

Islamic terrorists get mentioned for atleast a week or several times in the day with like 2 minute coverage (Infact, about 2 weeks ago there was all this news, like 2 days worth, on a failed ''islamic terrorist'' who made a video for his family ---why this was newsworthy was beyond me!). Heck, if you include abu hamza (who had a kill count of zero) then even he was on the news for ages!

Oh well. It doesn't matter much in the long term; people will just forget about it and move on and I'll be stressing over this (hypocritical) fact until I end up having a heart attack or something....best to leave it to politicians.

Oh, c'mon. A tabloid editor that couldn't sell papers on "NAZI TERRORIST PERVERT JAILED!!" should be looking for another career. After sentencing, unless he appeals, why would anybody bring it up again anyway?

A very brief google seach revealed 116 news articles on this guy. Surely this story is making news!

As far as Martyn Gilleard is concerned, good riddance to him. He sounds like a nasty piece of work. I hope justice will be done!
