A word of caution for those who only see the idyllic beauty of the country side. It is a very harsh life that puts much demands on a person.
No fast medical help
often no electricity or telephone
Nobody except Allaah(swt) to call upon for help (That is all that is needed)
You have to do all of the mechanical repairs on any equipment like cars
no pizza deivery
It is not the life for everybody, but those of us who love can not envision any other life nor desire any other.

The country side.
I have lived in quite a few places, but I am really loving the open spaces of Minnesota and the Dakotas.
A little more about the area, for the next week I will be in Black Hawk South Dakota. Right on the edge of the Pine Ridge Reservation. Normally we would be staying with friends on the Rez, but I have a number of appointments at the VA hospital in Fort Mead. Nothing serious just getting some injections in my back and knees for my arthritis and Aabidah has a number of routine check-ups.
Here are some pics of the Rez and the area around Black Hawk. I did not take these pictures, I found them on some travel sites about the Area.
Where we live is about 500 miles East of here. We live over 100 miles from the nearest city and over 1000 miles from any major large city.
But, for various reasons we spend little time at our home. Most of us days are on the various reservations.
Here is a link for Pine Ridge:
http://home.comcast.net/~zebrec/index.html
This is for the Cheyenne River Reservation, which is within walking distance of Aabidah's South Dakota House, where most of our horses still are.

Through out recorded history there seems to have been 3 distinct groups of people.
City dwellers
Herdsman/Farmers
Nomads
Each serves a distinct purpose and each can contribute to the good of all.
The problems arise when a person is forced to live in a style he is not suited for. A farmer can never find peace living in a city no matter how much he enjoys visiting cities and vice versa a city dweller will never find peace living in the countryside, no matter how much he enjoys visiting it.

Hmm... Well in my personal opinion: City.
I've never really lived in a countryside, but I think it'd get so boring whereas some city's are always full of life!
But city's also have their downsides: if you're reading a book or you're stressed out and you want to relax; it's hard to. You need to find a quiet place inside the city and then go out to the heart of it and enjoy whenever.

I'd rather choose the city than the countryside. Maybe even something in between, like when you are just leaving the city, but still not entering the countryside... get me? Or a smaller city, not something like New York. I'm pretty satisifed with the city I live here in Finland. Even its name fits me. :D
I can't be near too much nature for too long, although I love nature. Those bugs... I hate insects!

I would definitely choose the city. The country is nice to have a cottage there and go visit but to live there forever is not for me.

One thing I have learned over the years is there is no 100% perfect place on Earth. Although we should concentrate on the beauty and the gifts, there are also hardships and trials.
It does seem that in areas with abundant beauty and pleausres, there is a very large increase in hardships and trials.
The world seems to be very equally balanced and the secret is not in finding the ideal place on earth, but in learning to live the ideal life.

I love the beauty as well as the peace and serenity of country life, but i've grown up in the hustle and bustle of city life, so i'd go crazy with boredom if i were to live in the country side.

I live in a city, but I prefer the countryside anyday. I particularly love mountainous areas! I hope to live near a hill station, however, so that I will have the beauty of nature as well as civilisation around. ^_^
