Assalamualaykum all;

No matter who you are please read this!

Charity Week 2008 is fast approaching (20-26 October) and we are looking to make this the biggest and most beneficial one yet inshAllah.

We are always recruiting University Reps so if you are from University and are keen to help with Charity Week this year please get in contact ASAP!

More interestingly, we are looking to recruit more colleges and Pre-Uni students to the cause this year so please, Please:

If you have a brother, sister, cousin, or other contact either at college or who has already graduated please ask them if they'd be interested in helping with Charity Week this year. Alternatively just forward us their email/phone and we'll take it from there.
If you are currently at school or college, please also email us if you want to get involved.

Being a Charity Week representative is all made very easy by the ULU Team, who have infinite support on offer; from publicity to ideas to aid them in establishing a Charity Week at their school. Last year £240,000 was raised and this was from many, many different sources doing their bit. Every contribution counts as the week is primarily about UNITY of muslims through a good cause.

Check out last year's trailer if still unconvinced:

Otherwise PLEASE forward your contacts/potential reps to me via personal message, or email me at atif42@googlemail.com.

Please make the 1 min effort to type and send. The Sadaqah is worth it!

Charity Week 2008

The Race is On!

Calling all university students and charitable people around London:

When: The week beginning 20 October 2008
Where: All over London
Outcome: Much thawab!

In the week commencing the 20th of October 2008, student union Islamic societies (ISocs) from over 25 universities and schools from London will take part in Charity Week for Orphans. Imagine students from institutes all over London and beyond, battling each other with ingenious ways to raise the most money possible in a week for orphans from around the world.

The aim is to encourage students to use their time and skills in a united force to help the less fortunate. In previous year’s Charity Week a student from London Metropolitan University bungee jumped dressed as a cartoon character. Tube collections, bake sales, sponsored silences and walks, arm wrestling, and auctions are but a few of the hundreds of methods which these Isocs use to raise money and create awareness for orphans.

Guy’s, Kings and St. Thomas School of Medicine’s Isoc raised £37,000 and became Charity Week’s victor in 2007. Last year’s overall total, raised by these small societies, was even more phenomenal (by the Will of God), finishing up in the region of £240,000. But it is not just Univeristy Students who can compete, with Mulberry Girls School crowned victorious the year before. Clearly it is people's effort and enthusiasm, not age, that remains the key factor.

So far the money raised has been spent on orphan projects in Kenya, Ethiopia, Somalia and Mali, to name a few countries. The money is distributed with the help of Islamic Relief due to its experience in the field of charity work.

Over the last four years ULU ISoc has raised over £646,000 for Orphans worldwide, and Charity Week has become a national brand with the support of over 45 organisations and universities from across the country.

This year, we're spanning out more than ever including schools, colleges, workplaces, institutions etc etc.

Wherever you work/study/bum around....to get involved, contact CharityWeek@gmail.com.

Please join us for this fantastic unified cause for charity wherever you are in London and use whatever ideas you've got to raise money. Get all your friends and family involved and be the one to raise the most amount for Charity Week 2008....THE RACE IS ON!
