Trimming the nails is from the prophetic traditions. The fuqaha explain that:

1. It is sunnah to trim them once every week, preferably before the Friday prayer.

2. To delay their trimming for 15 days is permissible,

3. After 15 days, i t becomes blameworthy and disliked.

4. To go beyond 40 days without trimming them is sinful .

[Tahtawi 'ala al-Maraaqi] And Allah knows best.

You'll find that most of the non-muslims clip their nails completely and stick on fake ones.

Okay... But in the hadith, is the word trimming implied or is it some other word? Because trimming is usually cutting bits off. Small bits. Not a huge chunk. If that woman in the above pictures 'trims' her nails, she's still going to have enough left over to feed on for a lifetime.

I saw her on Tv yeah, apparently the vains that have since formed within the nails now prevent her from cutting them as she could die as a result of it.
