Things like this are demeaning to the victims of real holocausts. Even the persecution of the Palestinians is more of a real holocaust than the Iraq war.

The vast majority of the civilian casualties were not caused by American 'massacres', but either by suicide bombings or things which happen in any war, like accidental collateral damage or starvation.

What the hell are you smoking fishboy? Even the western media admitted over 1 million iraqi civilians killed as a DIRECT result of US troops. I can't believe some muslims can be so BLIND to the truth and continue to defend their western masters and blame a handful so called "suicide bombers".

Do the maths, 1 million casulaties in 5 years, that's 600 people getting killed by US troops per day. When was the last time Americans killed half of that? One tenth of that?

when? how about under bush daddy's reign of terror. 40 nights of carpet bombing will do it. Not to mention indirectly by destroying the water supplies, electricity to hospitals and other infrastructure of the society. Daddy starved to death over a million children alone, and now jr. comes along to take care of the adults. Like daddy like son, one terrorist after the other!

I can understand the kuffars defending their war criminals and terrorist regimes, but some of these muslims are disgusting. Maybe we do need these holocausts to wipe out the dead beat western boot lickers and to wake up the sleeping ummah so she can send these terrorist regimes back to stone ages like they are trying with us.

U.S. Media Ignores Estimate of 1 Million Iraqi Deaths
:sl:

Increasingly, the U.S. occupation is described as a passive onlooker to the violence. This is deeply misleading for two reasons. First, the civil war - or civil wars - that have been unleashed in Iraq was a predictable - and predicted - result of the U.S. invasion. Everything is predicted if one searches enough, but in this case, for example, James Baker gave the threat of unleashing a civil war as a key reason why the U.S. didn't go to Baghdad in 1991, so it's absurd to treat this as an unforeseeable consequence. Second, the picture is being obscured by underreporting in the U.S. of deaths from U.S. air strikes, raids, and shooting at checkpoints.
The article that you posted is just stating a similar thing to what I said, that the main causes of civilian death in Iraq were not holocaust-style massacres, but the civil war (suicide bombings) and deaths from air strikes and raids (accidental collateral damage that happens in every war). They didn't mention starvation, but since that happens in every war as well, that is probably a factor.

Of course, all of this is America's fault, directly or indirectly. But that doesn't mean that it was a pre-planned 'holocaust', Iraq was probably more like a big bungle. It is usually better to attribute to stupidity first what can be attributed to conspiracy.

Even the western media admitted over 1 million iraqi civilians killed as a DIRECT result of US troops.
Since when? The source you gave stated that ''US Media Ignores Estimate of 1 Million Iraqi Deaths'', which is the precise opposite to what you said! And they didn't say the word 'direct' in the article at all, I checked myself.

I can't believe some muslims can be so BLIND to the truth and continue to defend their western masters and blame a handful so called "suicide bombers".
Western masters? I can't believe that some Muslims can be so blind that they defend the ramblings of idiotic conspiracy theorists without even thinking about it! I have no 'Western Masters', I used to think like you until I decided to think freely.
Why is 'the West' singled out in all terrorist attacks, btw? China and Russia have done far more brutal things to Islam than America ever has, especially in the Communist era. Muslims have done worse things to Islam than the West, even! Who destroyed the Arab Caliphate? Mongols, not westerners. Who deposed the last widely-recognised Caliph? Turkish 'Muslims'. Who deposed the one after that? The Saudis.

Saddam allegedly killed 250,000 of his people in span of 25 years, while bush came along and killed over a million in 7 years. Despite what you and your kind of muslims here or in the world believes, the majority of muslims as well as iraqis no who the real enemy is and how is the real hitler is here.

China and Russia have done a lot and conintue to do so, but that is NO excuse to defend this regime from it's holocaust of the iraqis and afghan. Another attemp to justify american's massacre of muslims, just like the kuffars in here. You must be an american revert, clinging hard to your patroitism.

"And whilst Bush was pontificating from his ass, Muntather Al-Zaidi, a 28 years old journalist, a leftist, from the independent anti-occupation, anti-sectarian TV, Al-Baghdadia, stood up and threw not one shoe but TWO pair of shoes at Bush, calling him at the top of his voice YA KALB - YOU DOG.

Al Jazeera's excellent news anchor the IRAQI Layla Al-Sheikhly was the only one to report the slur and insult to the President of the United Asses. His last visit indeed and a souvenir from a patriotic Iraqi. Subsequent news censored the insult - YA KALB-YOU DOG.

Let me tell you more about Muntather Al-Zaidi. Muntather was kidnapped, tortured and humiliated and when released he resumed his work as a journalist at the Baghdadia TV. He graduated from Baghdad University in Journalism and was active pre-2003 in the Iraqi Federation /Student Union and was/is known to be a vehement opposer to the dual occupation of my Beloved.

One of his colleagues confirmed that Muntather came to the press conference late, and his other colleagues from the same TV station had preceded him way before. This other colleague also confirmed that they had to stand for hours for stringent security checks before being allowed to enter the press hall.

Muntather as a dignified Iraqi, used the only weapon available to him - HIS SHOES."

Iraqi journalist hurls shoes at 'dog' Bush

An Iraqi journalist hurled his shoes and an insult at George W. Bush, without hitting him, as the US president was shaking hands with the Iraqi premier at his Baghdad office on Sunday.

As the two leaders met in Nuri al-Maliki's private office, a journalist sitting in the third row jumped up, shouting: "It is the farewell kiss, you dog," and threw his shoes one after the other towards Bush.

Maliki made a protective gesture towards the US president, who ducked and was not hit.

The journalist, Muntazer al-Zaidi from Al-Baghdadia channel which broadcasts from Cairo, was frogmarched from the room by security staff, an AFP journalist said.

Soles of shoes are considered the ultimate insult in Arab culture. After Saddam Hussein's statue was toppled in Baghdad in April 2003, many onlookers beat the statue's face with their soles.

Some Iraqi journalists stood up to apologise.

The White House said Bush ducked to avoid the first shoe, while the second narrowly missed the president.

Bush said: "Thanks for apologising on behalf of the Iraqi people. It doesn't bother me. If you want the facts, it was a size 10 shoe that he threw".

Playing down the incident, the president later added: "I don't know what the guy's cause is... I didn't feel the least bit threatened by it."

Across Mideast, Arabs hail shoe-hurling journalist
By QASSIM ABDUL-ZAHRA and OMAR SINAN, Associated Press Writers

BAGHDAD – Thousands of Iraqis took to the streets Monday to demand the release of a reporter who threw his shoes at President George W. Bush, as Arabs across many parts of the Middle East hailed the journalist as a hero and praised his insult as a proper send-off to the unpopular U.S. president.

Journalist Muntadhar al-Zeidi, who was kidnapped by militants last year, was being held by Iraqi security Monday and interrogated about whether anybody paid him to throw his shoes at Bush during a press conference the previous day in Baghdad, said an Iraqi official.

He was also being tested for alcohol and drugs, and his shoes were being held as evidence, said the official, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk to the media.

Newspapers across the Arab world on Monday printed front-page photos of Bush ducking the flying shoes, and satellite TV stations repeatedly aired the incident, which provided fodder for jokes and was hailed by the president's many critics in the region.

"Iraq considers Sunday as the international day for shoes," said a joking text message circulating around the Saudi capital Riyadh.

Palestinian journalists in the West Bank town of Ramallah joked about who would be brave enough to toss their shoes at Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, another U.S. official widely disliked in the region.

Ironically, during the regime of Saddam this journalist would have been executed immediately. This won't happen here. He is being given an alcohol and drug test, and then will probably lose a paycheck. Pretty much the same scenario if an American journalist had thrown a shoe at the president of France in D.C. The video is funny. Funny to me because Bush was laughing at the same time he is dodging a shoe. The Iraqi president made a good effort to block the last shoe as well. :) Bush has good reflexes for an old guy.

Excellent aim, but a weak throw. He should have walked in mud and dirt before going there, making sure his shoes had enough dirt on them that if the shoes didn't hit, he'd at least get some crap on him :bump1:

Now for the smart shoe company CEOs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This would be a perfect advertisement. If the shoes did hit him in the face they'd recreate the same situation and say "Our shoes are so light and soft, even if thrown in your face, you won't feel a thing"

Now that it didn't hit him, throw the shoe and make it fall in mid-air: "So light an gentle, like feather" :D

It was a shame it didn't hit though. He should have had both shoes ready, when he threw the first one and bush prepared to dodge, then he could have thrown the other one, so by the time he's recovering from the first dodge and doesn't know what's going on, BOOM, shoe in his face.

I CANT WAIT FOR THE FLASH GAMES TO COME OUT!!! HIT BUSH WITH A SHOE!

President Bush said he regretted telling Iraqi insurgents in 2003: ``There are some who feel like that the conditions are such that they can attack us there. My answer is, bring 'em on.''

Arab world hails shoe attack as Bush's farewell gift. Though the Iraq govt called the shoe attack on George W Bush shameful, many in the Arab world hailed it with one saying it was the least an Iraqi could have done to Bush.

In this image from APTN video, a man throws a shoe at President George W. Bush during a news conference with Iraq Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki on Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008, in Baghdad. The man threw two shoes at Bush, one after another. Bush ducked both throws, and neither man was hit.

Despite not really achieving anything, it was quite clever.

In Iraq, the sole of one's shoe is considered very rude, so much so that you can insult people by even showing them it. So to throw a shoe at Bush would be a very big insult, a bit like how people in the West imagine the ultimate sign of defiance to be sticking up your middle finger at the very last word. It is also ironic, since when the US forces entered Baghdad, the news agencies filmed loads of people bashing pictures of Saddam Hussein with shoes. Now after almost six years, Bush is the one getting hit by shoes.

To most Westerners it was just bizarre. I knew what the significance of the shoe throwing was, but it was more humorous to me than anything. Also, it occurred to me how much Iraq has changed since the fall of Saddam. Bush doesn't really care about someone throwing a shoe at him, but the real significance is the ability of people in Iraq to actually show displeasure with a situation.

Shoe thrower 'beaten in custody'

The brother of the Iraqi journalist who threw his shoes at US President George W Bush has said that the reporter has been beaten in custody.

Muntadar al-Zaidi has allegedly suffered a broken arm, broken ribs and internal bleeding, his older brother, Dargham, told the BBC.

Mr Zaidi threw his shoes at Mr Bush at a news conference, calling him "a dog".
A spokesperson for the Iraqi military says the journalist is in good health and said the allegations were untrue. (LIARS!)

It is unclear whether the reporter may have been injured when he was wrestled to the floor at the news conference, or at a later point.

The head of Iraq's journalists' union has asked the government for clemency towards the journalist who is still in custody.

A spokesman for Iraq's High Judicial Council said that Mr Zaidi, accompanied by defence and prosecution lawyers, had been brought before the investigating judge, Reuters news agency reported.

Abdul Satar Birqadr said Mr Zaidi had been charged with aggression against a president.

"He admits the action he carried out," the news agency quoted Mr Birqadr as saying.

Earlier, Dargham al-Zaidi told the BBC's Caroline Wyatt in Baghdad he believed his brother had been taken to a US military hospital in the Iraqi capital. (Hand him over to US huh?)

Hero figure

A second day of rallies in support of Mr Zaidi were held across Iraq, calling for his release.

Meanwhile, offers to buy the shoes he threw are being made around the Arab world, reports say.

Mr Zaidi told our correspondent that despite offers from many lawyers his brother has not been given access to a legal representative since being arrested by forces under the command of Mowaffaq al-Rubaie, Iraq's national security adviser.

The Iraqi authorities have said the 28-year-old will be prosecuted under Iraqi law.
Iraqi lawyers had earlier speculated that the charges could include insulting a foreign leader and the Iraqi Prime Minister, Nouri Maliki, who was standing next to President Bush during the incident.

The offence carries a maximum penalty of two years in jail.

Our correspondent says that the previously little-known journalist from the private Cairo-based al-Baghdadia TV has become a hero to many, not just in Iraq but across the Arab world, for what many saw as a fitting send-off for a deeply unpopular US president.

As he flung the shoes, Mr Zaidi shouted: "This is a goodbye kiss from the Iraqi people, dog."

Dargham al-Zaidi told the BBC that his brother deliberately bought Iraqi-made shoes, which were dark brown with laces. They were bought from a shop on al-Khyam street, a well-known shopping street in central Baghdad.

However, not everyone in Iraq has been supportive of the journalist's action.
Speaking earlier in Baghdad, Mouyyad al-Lami described Mr Zaidi's action as "strange and unprofessional", but urged Mr Maliki to show compassion.

"Even if he has made a mistake, the government and the judiciary are broad-minded and we hope they consider his release because he has a family and he is still young," he told the Associated Press news agency.

"We hope this case ends before going to court."

Abducted by insurgents

The shoes themselves are said to have attractedbids from around the Arab world.
According to unconfirmed newspaper reports, the former coach of the Iraqi national football team, Adnan Hamad, has offered $100,000 (£65,000) for the shoes, while a Saudi citizen has apparently offered $10m (£6.5m).

The daughter of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, Aicha, said her charity would honour the reporter with a medal of courage, saying his action was a "victory for human rights".

The charity called on the media to support Mr Zaidi and put pressure on the Iraqi government to free him.

Mr Zaidi, who lives in Baghdad, has worked for al-Baghdadia for three years.
Muzhir al-Khafaji, programming director for the channel, described him as a "proud Arab and an open-minded man".

He said that Mr Zaidi was a graduate of communications from Baghdad University.
"He has no ties with the former regime. His family was arrested under Saddam's regime," he said.

Mr Zaidi has previously been abducted by insurgents and held twice for questioning by US forces in Iraq.

In November 2007 he was kidnapped by a gang on his way to work in central Baghdad and released three days later without a ransom.

He said at the time that the kidnappers had beaten him until he lost consciousness, and used his necktie to blindfold him.

Mr Zaidi never learned the identity of his kidnappers, who questioned him about his work before letting him go.

In the east, throwing a shoe in your face is the same as spitting in your face if not worst. It is an indication to show the value, worth and respect that person deserves.

Westerners may not get it but the whole Arab world got it, the whole Asian world got it also, including non-Muslims like chinese and japanese.

You're missing the point. A shoe isn't going to kill anyone, the man wasn't expecting it to knock Bush dead. He hurled a shoe at him to make a statement, that you don't kill our families, destroy our country, then apologize, and expect us to smile and thank you for it. As for a shoe being thrown at you not being an insult, what else would it be? It's not exactly common practice to throw things at people you like..

I agree with user 'Crayon', it's about the symbolism, the shoe represents an insult to George W, irregardless of whether it hits him or not... it's actually good it didn't hit him because then the reporter would have been in a LOT of trouble, the american FBI or CIA or whatever would not take kindly to it, and a man with so much courage would be in a lot of trouble...
it's not about the shoe, it's about the courage of people to take a stand and let their voice be heard

Whether he missed or hit him isn't important, its that he sacrificed his LIFE to do this for a great cause, even if he died doing it, he set an example for many that will never die. This is the zeal of the Mujahideen, and may he be ranked as such ameen. And before anyone tries to say anything else, He accomplished in a few seconds what many have spent years speaking or just thinking about...I'm sure for 8 years someone wanted to throw something at his face :D AND THIS GUY DID IT!
