I have a question which I hope you Brothers and Sisters could help me with.

We have learnt in Islam not to bow down to anyone or anything except Allah SWT. Why then were the Angels have to bow down to man?

Jazakallahu Khairan

it wasnt bowing as in prostration before allah, only he is deserving of that. it was to show respect that indeed man was superior because allah had given man knowledge and the ability to learn where as the angels only worship allah without free will.

yup, like mufinman said :) Prophet Yusuf was prostrated to [surah yusuf [12]], Prophet 'Eesa probably was too. these were signs of greeting and not worship.

Its only forbidden in the final shari'ah revealed to Prophet Muhammad.
