View Full Version : How long you can stay away from ur PC?

Danah
12-17-2008, 05:11 PM
I feel that there is a problem in me in using computers and Internet a lot ..:blind:
I hardly remember the days I stayed away from my PC, the maximum period was 12 days, and I was obligated by force to not touch it *fearing from my parents :-[ after an operation in my eyes*

that was the only time I held myself for a long period, but I rarely stayed away from PC and the longest can be only one day, its like I am fighting myself to control using PC and internet :(

I feel like there is something wrong in my day if I dont log in to my PC

I just wanna know whether we have some similar cases here or not, and how long you can keep yourself away from ur PC?

Am on my laptop when I have work to do and I just have this open in the background. But i can live without it. So, if i have no work to do, then I won't come on here and I find something else to do.

If nobody else is on, I end up on the computer... If anybody is on though, I don't mind, unless I really have something to do and they don't get off. :p I can do without for most of the day, just so long as I'm on for like 2 or 3 hours... The only time I've gone 2 - 4 weeks without it was when I was traveling. :X

I think its depend on how we use it
for example...for me...
If I want to study, I have to study from my laptop
If I want to relax and do something funny, I have to use my laptop and watch anime or anything else
If I want to look for information or search for specific thing, again ......
If I want to solve my HWs or doing my Reports,.......
If I am free and want to use my time,.....LI.......
If I want to watch TV,.......I ended up turn off TV and come again to my laptop

so how on the earth I am supposed to be away from this machine :(

I feel like the laptop is the one who own me not the other way around :-[

I just read an article about the use of the internet and computer effects....

there is a good thing from using the internet..........it says that according to studies, it improve the way of thinking like increase the speed of thinking or the speed of looking for an information. Also, it increase the speed of looking for the alternatives or the solutions of the problems....did anyone notice that on him/herself ??
Actually, I did.....

so, alhumdulilah, at least we got something good :-[

but still, there are many other problems from the extensive use of copmuters and internet.....

You are aware that you can change these things above? Go and and take some fresh air for fun, read a book or learn to bake something yummy. Go to the movies or go and have a chat with an good friend over a cup of coffee.

Read books, not online but live! I'm serious, it's better for you.

so how on the earth I am supposed to be away from this machine :(
Have some self-discipline.

Stay away from it like you stay away from eating during Ramazan. Well, not when you need to study/do homework, but when you have free time. If you search for information, what about visiting the library and go search there instead of one click on Google?

I used to be an extreme computer nerd and I was really big on gaming when I was younger. Now I just go on for school or to visit these forums or just to browse around the internet. I don't do the whole msn/facebook/myspace stuff. Even if I wanted to, I didn't have the friends for it lool

I tried, I even ask mom to take my laptop from me by force, but I ended up change my mind.....even now when we all need to watch Gazza news on TV, I just prefer watching the news from the online TV :(

but I start reading real books instead of E-book, and I hope I can continue that.......just make duaa for me sis, its really a serious issue to me

As for the original question...for me it fluctuates...sometimes i can stay 4-5 days without using my pc...when im extremely busy with studies/work/family/friends...

and sometimes im stuck to it and no amount of yelling coming from my mother that im gunna become blind because im starring at that thing for hours can get me off:D lol but this usually occurs when I have loonng vacations and get bored out of my mind...
Im usually on msn/emails though I barely do anything else on the Internet(but for a while now I've been coming on LI:D)

Personally I dont think theres anything wrong with being on your computer because it is a tool. Its a gateway to knowledge and social communication (if you have little or no friends like me!)

Its a door to the rest of the world. I quite frankly dont know how people lived without it.

I wouldnt worry yourself about these things unless the internet is stopping/delaying/restricting you from your important duties like reading your salaah on time and other important duties.

For me it is hard to answer. I spend many times a week when I have no access to the internet, like during driving or out on one of the reservations. I am often on one rez or another for anywhere from 2 days to a week.

Than when I get back on I seem to try to make up for lost time and stay on it 24/7 until I head back to the rez.

Right now we are snowed in and have not been able to even get on the road for about a week. Tomorrow we have to get to The Cheyenne River Reservation to check on our horses. We are still snowed in, but slowly the roads are being cleared, Inshallah, we will head out tomorrow and once we head out it will be anywhere from 2 days to a week before I have Internet access again. i can at Faith, Sturgis and Rapid City, but still don't know what to expect what we will find on the rez and I may get snowed in there for a week or longer.

We have a small horse ranch and raise paint horses. We pasture our horses on the Cheyenne river Sioux Reservation. We also visit 2 of the Sioux reservations as much as possible The Cheyenne River Lakota Sioux and the Pine ridge Oglala Sioux Reservation. For 2 purposes to share Islam with the Sioux and to visit with the 8 Sioux reverts we know. The winter is a difficult time for the Sioux who live on the reservations. Pine Ridge is one of the most poverty striken areas in the world. The area of Pine ridge is nearly the same as all of the UK, but the population is only about 15,000 people there is about 60% unemployment. Most do not have electricity or running water. The Sioux reverts we know at Pine Ridge live in the Potato Creek Community which is very isolated. We try to bring them food and words of comfort as often as we can.

We have some rapport with the Sioux as my wife is native American of the Cheyenne Tribe, My second wife was also native American but of the Cherokee Nation. I am somewhat familiar with the customs of native Americans and do not insult them.

Woodrow- My family used to have Arabians. At any time we had upwards of 20-30 on our farm in south Ga.

I miss our horses!

As to the OP-

I live on my computer sadly. I work 8 hours a day on it and then when I get home I'm on it for at least 4-5 hours at night before bed. I play World of Warcraft and browse forums or do my digital art. (I am an artist.)

So do not feel bad, I am a computer junkie too. I do try my best though to log off at an appropriate hour to rest and read at least. ;)
