Asalamoalikum.

Will only Muslims enter jannah? If yes, is there a verse in the quran that talks about it?

Jazakallah

Yes.

Indeed, Allah does not forgive association with Him, but He forgives what is less than that for whom He wills. And he who associates others with Allah has certainly gone far astray.

[Qur'an Al-Nisa 4:116]

Anyone who associates partners with Allah is a disbeliever, so Allah will not forgive such a person [a disbeliever] on the Day of Judgment. In the end, ALL the believers [Muslims] will enter jannah - even if they are punished for a while in hell for some sins before that.

If you mean just the Ummah from the time of Rasulallah (saws).. then I'm not sure. Won't the Ahlal Kitaab and the people who practised monotheism from the start of time be also permitted into Jannah ? As they are muslims too....

Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem,

As-Salaamu 'Alaykum Wa RAhmatullahi Wa Barakatuh,

If you would like a comprehensive answer then you have to be precise in your wording.

Before you can get an answer we need to understand what the words in the question means. For example, Muslim and Islam. If a person says will only Muslims go to heaven, does he mean by Muslims, those who follow Muhammad and no one before? Or does he mean even the people before who may be called Muslims, like Jews and Christians who followed in the right way Moses and Jesus respectively?

Moreover, are the people who did not recieve a message Muslims?

I will leave this for someone more knowledgeable to give you the writing of scholars, but I will state a principle in Islam:

Allah does not punish until he has sent a messenger, i.e. until evidence is brought, and I am not giving a ruling (fatwa) rather passing you knowledge from Ibn Kathir, rahimahullah,:

(Every time a group is cast therein, its keepers will ask: "Did no warner come to you'' They will say: "Yes, indeed a warner did come to us, but we rejected him and said: `Allah never sent down anything; you are only in great error.''') In these Ayat Allah reminds of His justice in dealing with His creatures and that He does not punish anyone until the proof has been established against them and a Messenger has been sent to them. This is similar to Allah's statement,

[وَمَا كُنَّا مُعَذِّبِينَ حَتَّى نَبْعَثَ رَسُولاً]

(And We never punish until We have sent a Messenger.) [17:15]

From the Tafsir of Ibn Kathir http://tafsir.com/default.asp?sid=67&tid=54549 You may also read surah 67.

And Allah knows best

Yes, they will, it is clearly stated in the Quran.

For example this verse, but there are many others;

"Surely those who believe, and those who are Jews, and the Christians, and the Sabians -- whoever believes in God and the Last Day and does good, they shall have their reward from their Lord. And there will be no fear for them, nor shall they grieve" (2:62).

Yes in a way and also no. No, because Prophet Isa AS will destroy the false Christian sign and he will preach and ask the Christians to convert, the ones that do will be given a spot in heaven and the ones that don't they will dwell in he'll. So in a way they are and are not muslims.

This verse doesn't mean that anyone from those mentioned in the verse will enter Paradise. Rather, it is referring to a specific group amongst them - the ones who believed in the original message given to them by their Prophets, not the ones who fell into heresy and changed their religion, and it is quite safe to say that there remain none today from amongst the denominations mentioned in the verse that practice their religion as it was taught to them by their Prophets. And had they even existed today, their belief would not have taken them to Paradise until they accepted the Messenger (salalahu 'alayhi wa sallam) as their Messenger. It was narrated from Ibn Abbas about that verse [2:62] and he said that Allaah revealed the following ayah afterwards:

{And whoever desires other than Islam as religion - never will it be accepted from him, and he, in the Hereafter, will be among the losers.}[ale-Imran; 85]

Yes, I know. I thought that was clear from Banu Hashim's question, since he was referring to early Christians.
