A person goes through a long time of having acquaintances, buddies, pals, partners and the like. Often they mistakenly call them friends only to later learn they are not.

To have friends you have to know what a friend is and what to expect. For nearly all of us our first human friends are our parents. The best human friend we will ever have is our mother.

As we learn what a friend really is or should be, we will discover that Allaah(swt) is our best friend and all we will ever need.

But, until we truly understand what a friend is, we will never know who our friends are or even if we have any.

Learn what a friend really is, do your best to be a genuine friend and soon you will see you actually do have friends.

As far as online goes, though, may I suggest something like Facebook rather than forums and such? Something a bit more 'chatty', and you'll find that one friendship can lead you into lots of others. Just make sure you take the necessary precautions. Facebook is very good, though, as nobody is hiding behind online anonymity and they take precautions to ensure everyone is who they say they are. For example, if you attend a school you can only sign up to the appropriate network if you are a pupil and that is verified, not even teachers are allowed to join.

The 'trouble' with most forums like this is that people get caught up with the 'issues', and you can never really find out what people are like - except in a few cases. I know perfectly well that there are many here I totally disagree with on most issues that I'd really get on with socially, and some I generally agree with that I wouldn't be able to stand!

It seems that you expect more than what is to be expected from a friend.

It is said:

Love your friend mildly; he may become your enemy one day.
Hate your enemy mildly; he may become your friend one day.
Reported by al-Tirmidhi, Narrated by Abu Hurairah (RA)

It was also asked:
'With whom shall we sit, O Messenger of Allah?' 'With one the sight of whom reminds you of Allah,' he replied, 'and whose speech increases you in knowledge, and whose actions make you desire the next world.'

i forgot which scholar but a scholar of the past once when asked to be acompanied by people said "but i take the sahabis as my companions" astonished at this the peoples asked what he meant and he said he is always reading about them that he feels he is so close to them!

I'm the same as Fighting4Iman ( I don't know about dying alone though :)) but yea. I mean I will socialize through work/school but I've given up on the whole friends thing. I'm not bothered by it. If you still insist on wanting a friend, thats fine. Don't be so focused on the subject of trying to find a friend. You will only be bringing yourself lower and lower emotionally. Just be patient and let everything play out for itself. There are good people and there are even more not so good people. Don't let it bring you down if you run into the not so good people. "Expect the best, prepare for the worst" I think is how the saying goes :thumbs_up

AssalamuAlaykum sis!

Dont be down insha'Allah. Friends are like the seasons for some people, they come and go and you meet more. Sometimes you leave a certain set behind and go get new ones.

In the transition from school to college, and then college to uni...people walk in and out of your life and insha'Allah one day you'll find a set that you really like and can relate to.

And the internet can sometimes get boring btw :p try spend your time pursuing knowledge, if you can...attend Islamic lectures insha'Allah, you dont even need to go with somebody, you could go alone and you may just meet some likeminded sisters there insha'Allah.

And if all else fails...spend time with your family.

Take care insha'Allah

WassalamuAlaykum

I know it's hard and I think I have unworthy friends as well, they talk to me a few times and I walk with them to my class and when he sees his other friends he swears at me but now I learned not to make friends in a minute of talking.

The private sections are usually really chatty and not like WA at all. There are plenty of pointless spam threads just for laughs there.

EDIT: although I don't know about what goes on in the sisters section. For all I know, they could be organising massive gladiator deathmatches in there.
